Re: Fins want Haley - per Breer
I've never been a big haley fan,,but....I like the offense..Ben is comfortable with Haley now..i would be hesitant to want Ben and another OC, who will have his own ideas and concepts..to start all over again.

no way somebody gets hired who wants to start over
my guess? Fitchner. Ben has comfort level, he's Tomlin's guy, through and through... little difficulty in transition.

I honestly thought he was going to be the choice after they got rid of Arians.

I have a love/hate view of Haley.
Hate, while I am watching the games
Love, when I look at the stat sheet afterwards
I question play calls, as I am sure most fans due. However the end result has been consitently solid. Our offense has entered new territory. I am sure much of that has to do with personnel, but his mission was to keep Ben upright and healthy and for the most part he has succeeded. Ben being considered by many to now be the best in the game is a positive reflection on the offense he runs.

Exactly. No matter who the OC is, there will be something to be pissed off about. People have short memories, but this board used to go apeshit over Arians called games, calling for him to be canned for years. Of course we can't go back and find those threads since the board was hacked and wiped out a few times, but I remember. I also remember who the leaders of the Fire Arians! charge were.

We could go without an OC, as Ben can write up plays (see SD bomb) and 100% of the time his play calls work every time.

We should be smarter on those plays, but to be honest, I like the aggression. I'd rather us take our shots deep than consistently throw in front of the sticks.
Really? Really?
I dont think that is accurate, or reasonable. There are also throws beyond the sticks, and a midrange, etc. instead of just bombs and bubble screens.
Yes, but I'm talking about a situation where we either throw it in front and hope for RAC or take our deep shot. I'd rather us be aggressive. Of course we can throw mid range.

Fitchner would be my pick to succeed Haley if he were to leave for a head coaching gig.
Why Fitchner? It seems to me that behind the scenes he was the one that really got this offense rolling. Even Ben and Haley were giving props to Randy in the offseason. And this season with the success of the 2 point conversions, it is none other than Randy Fitchner who got the credit for developing the "seven shots". Both Ben and Haley admitted in interviews that it was Fitchner who spearheaded and developed the whole thing.
So, you have unprecedented success with 2 point conversions, set an NFL record of 8 successful 2 pointers in one season and this was developed and pushed by your QB coach who also was your WR coach for 3 seasons. He has worked as the QB coach, the WR coach and been under both Arians and Haley.
In college, while at Memphis as the OC and QB coach they set school records on offense. He coached DeAngelo Williams while at Memphis.
I wonder what this aggressive, innovative coach could do with Ben and the talent we have on offense. He schemes and frees players open on these two point conversions attempts and that is just anti-Haley. This offense could very well get better if Haley left and Fitchner was promoted.

I was reading an article with all the vacancies, scheduled interviews and rumors. Haley's name was not linked to any job on the list. Hue Jackson is mentioned for more than half of the openings to get at least an interview.

60% of the time, it works every time. The rest of the time, it's a WTF interception.

Fichtner is the only guy id replace Haley with at this point. But he wouldn't get the job since we was already passed over imo.

This is pretty commonplace. Good soldiers usually get a shot at some point. Coaching might be the pinnacle of nepotism.

I think his whole routine about his office being bugged by the Chiefs to get dirt on him probably has him permanently blacklisted by many teams no matter what.
One could say the reason BR is upright and healthy is because of Mike Munchak.the-other-burg wrote:I have a love/hate view of Haley.

His most serious injuries have come under Haleys watch.
