Screw that. We take BOTH years.

Damnit.

I'll believe the bolded when I see it.

I'm still not sure we ever see Martavis in a Steeler uniform again.

Nix is hurt too. Tomlin rattled off injuries faster than I could type. I believe it is a back with him and he's also questionable.
I'm thinking Ben (and we) may have to be satisfied with two Lombardis.
The other interesting question is: who plays if Golden is out? Do Tomlin/Butler really have so little confidence in Sh. Thomas that he doesn't play ahead of Sean Davis? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my question. but Davis and Artie Burns just flat out can't/won't tackle. if nothing else Sh. Thomas is better hitter/tackler.

If Golden is out, look for Davis in his spot and Justin Gilbert will get some DB playing time imo.

I didn't really see much of Sunday's game, thank god, because my daughter had a soccer game but, did Gilbert see the field at all? Or will this be another Boykin saga where we are wondering what could have been?

After listening to the Tomlin Tuesday tape I did hear Tomlin state that Gilbert has progressed very well and we could very well see him on the field this Sunday. Interesting.
I loved that Tomlin admitted the tackling was poor, angles were poor and they're addressing that this week. Get it Fixed, please. BTW, 09/26/2016 Released RB Brandon Brown-Dukes from the Practice Squad. 09/27/2016 Signed DB Jacob Hagen to the Practice Squad. http://www.steelers.com/team/transactions.html

Don't forget, they can't practice in pads very much-- really hurts when you have young guys struggling to tackle.

I know they can't practice in pads much, but can they run around and tackle those dummy robots all they want? If so, go knock the snot out of that robot! It's better than nothing.

So they replace a rookie who can't tackle with a narcissist who's known for NOT wanting to tackle.

Right.

They had a shot of Gilbert on the sideline, had the paint on, was chewing on his mouth guard. I thought he might've been in the game.

Anyway I know there are some financials with him I can see Gilbert being one of those Tomlin "stories".

Our defense is going to be an issue. I'm all for trying new things to improve it. If that happens because a former top 10 draft pick finds his groove with a new team and a new coach, then so be it.

Wouldn't be the first time its happened in the NFL

And lets hope they don't wait 10 weeks this year to realize they have a player riding the pine that can make a difference on defense once he gets on the field.

I'm not a freaking Xs & Os, "take your eye off the ball" kinda guy/expert. But what I've been seeing from last game and going back a few years, I'm thinking Lake & Porter need to be on the "hot seat" the rest of this year.

Butler deserves another year after the excitement I had about him after watching last season's team. BUT after these first three games I'm hugely disappointed. Yeah we won the first two games fairly convincingly, BUT lets face it, the defense had nothing to do with those wins. I mean, Jesus Christ, we're on pace for about 7 sacks this season. There is NO excuse for the defense to be going backwards at this juncture in the teams (This rosters) growth/development. Not to mention Ben's waning time.

Its IMPERATIVE the defense improves this season over last. So far it's gone the other way.

Kinda agree BUT where is the talent ? OLB except for maybe a very old Deebo is currently a TOTAL ZERO and thats after adding 2 rd 1 picks recently. ILB is almost as bad save for a probably not re signed Timmons

I think the D backfield is improving but with ZERO pass rush there AND a weak run D up the middle there is only so much you can do.

I guess you could look at it another way like this

1. Bud Dupree becomes just a solid player
2. We draft a good to great edge rusher in RD 1 this year
3. We draft a good to great Mack ILB in RD 2
4. We draft a good to great SS in RD 3

I those are doable. Maybe not guaranteed but doable.

Then consider

5. A good WR somewhere in rds 4 through 7
6. A Bettis Farrior Hartings quality type FA signing

I dont think this team is THAT far off

But more to your point, generally i am not a fan of signing former players who dont have much experience coaching as coaches. Particularly on a team where the OC and DC seem to hold alot of sway in defining their units.

Over on NFL.com they have a story about how Aaron Donald has 0 sacks for the season in 3 games. So, he has as many sacks as our Javon Hargraves. The Rams have just 4 sacks, which granted is 3 more than us, but they have a great front 4 and even they are struggling.

I know Hargraves had an injury at the end of the preseason but come on, if he can suit up for each game and play then give him more snaps, enough already!

13 snaps, 11 snaps and 13 snaps for a grand total of 37 snaps, out of a possible 199 snaps. He is only on the field for 18% of the snaps.

Why draft an Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins type of player if you are not going to mold, shape the defense for that player? Do you see the Rams or the Bengals putting Donald or Atkins at NT in a 3-4? No, you do not.

I would love to see, just for one quarter, or a half, the Steelers line up Hargraves and McCullers inside at DT and have Heyward and Tuitt at DE and let them play as a 4 man line and see what the results may be. I think it would be very surprising.

If those 4 players are out there who exactly is getting doubled? And if you send a 5th player in on the blitz it would probably be way more successful. Having those 4 big guys out there will wear down that OL and make blitzing more effective.

Aaron Donald is the current NFL leader in QB pressures.
