From Ben's perspective, better to leave a year too early and still be able to walk. I get it. How much money could his kids possibly need? They are already set for life if Ben chooses.

Ben is not retiring, nor did it even sound like he was if you heard his tone in the interview. He basically gave the canned athlete answer of 'I have to think about my future and pray on it'. This was after specifically talking about things for next season for fifteen minutes. Players are beat up and emotional after a season, give them a few weeks and they're ready to get back at it.
This whole comment ought to fill up a lot of articles and airwaves for nothing though.
