So although I suppose it's possible, I can't take it all that seriously.

Perhaps it's Ben's version to Tomlin of a shot across the bough. Fix the dumb shit or I walk.

From Ben's perspective, better to leave a year too early and still be able to walk. I get it. How much money could his kids possibly need? They are already set for life if Ben chooses.

(And yeah, he's a drama king.)

Ben is not retiring, nor did it even sound like he was if you heard his tone in the interview. He basically gave the canned athlete answer of 'I have to think about my future and pray on it'. This was after specifically talking about things for next season for fifteen minutes. Players are beat up and emotional after a season, give them a few weeks and they're ready to get back at it.

This whole comment ought to fill up a lot of articles and airwaves for nothing though.

1. Ben is and has always been a drama queen. Many many hits he limps and waddles off the field grimacing but always makes it back out. This is part of the persona. Ben lovers this is not a personal slight.

2. I think one of his short comings is he is inherently lazy. Not a criticism but an observation based on seeing him way over weight in season (this off season he absolutely came into camp in great shape, compared to other years) and seeming to not always have the mental part of the game down. Why will we never catch a team subbing with a quick snap ala Rogers and Brady

I think right now the last thing he wants to do is start working at next season and it is a bit daunting.

Wait a minute, an example of Ben being lazy is that he's never caught a defense in a quick snap?

What about when Bart Scott knocked Ben into the following Tuesday? Was he dramatic then?

I think you are being a little unfair. If you prefer your daughter didn't date Ben, then fine, but this is absurd.

First off the Georgia rape shit is pure shit, he got railroaded, so if I had a daughter dont care.

Bart Scott hit fine, but how many dozens of times does he limp around like he is hurt but gets right back at it. Many guys here have called him a drama queen. You love him unconditionally thats fine, I see his warts and he has some. The quick snap thing is to me a guy who is immediately ready cause he prepared like a mofo and is already getting the team set up while the ball is being retrieved by the ref's. Ball placed and they are over it and he is ready to go get defense on heels catch teams in substitution mode. This is if they are in no huddle mode and he is calling the plays. Maybe not the best example but I just dont think he studies super hard. I dont think he has a great work ethic his conditioning, his movement on the field pre snap shows a guy who does enough pre work to get by and depends on his exceptional athleticism. So far the formula has worked for the most part, but when the body and mind slow down, you need to work harder and harder to stay in the same spot. Not sure he digs the thought of cranking up the work part.

I would prefer that he doesn't retire this year, but it'll free up my Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays... Because I'm done when 7's done.

I can't remember Ben ever said he had to think about playing. I take this at face value as him saying he's getting close to ready to walk away.

Simple fact of reality. He's not going to be there forever. Only question now is how long.

You think if Ben announces his retirement, that guarantees we'll get a 7th because the NFL PTB will want to script another "QB goes out with a win" story?

Or do you think they still hate Ben, so that's be more likely to get a "let's humiliate you in the worst way possible" script?

Your thoughts, BethSteel?

Better...I hope he tells Rooney and Tomlin in stronger terms than he was indicating in that interview that he is pissed.

Because hinting at it in an interview is passive aggressive Ben at work.

Tell them flat out to go all in to win it next year.

Ben will be back next year- he doesn't want to go out like this.

But ownership and the brain trust had better step up.

Exactly, if the Rooneys aren't dumbfucks, they resign everybody, bring in REAL free agents to fill every hole, calculate a blowing out of the salary cap that kicks in the end of the 2018 season and say THE FUTURE IS NOW.

I firmly believe this was a shot at Tomlin. And it's fully deserved.

Ben didn't sound like much of a fan of Todd Haley either.

Maybe Ben just had a conversation with one of the players who can barely walk or remember his wife's name because he took one too many blows to the head.

He should call the Rooney's bluff. Get as many coaches out of there as he can, both sides of the ball.

Who should call Rooney's bluff?

And what bluff is that?

Can he convince Rooney to "retire" Haley?

There'd be no way it got out that it was false, since I think we've established Todd Haley has no market now.

You're me because it isn't just that we lost...it's that we were humiliated.

And this wasn't like 2004, where we could excuse it by saying "Ben was a rookie".

Tomlin did utter, that coaches evaluation will occur.

Haley is a boat anchor. I'd say get rid of the golfer and let ben run the offense.

I dont watch ISIS beheadings.

I dont know if I could watch Steelers version 2017 minus BR7. Watching people blaming Laundry for being Laundry is like hating a race horse for having a broken leg.

Say Ben retires, the TV ratings would go down a lot more

But Ben would have to pay the Rooney's to the tune of 15-20 million if he retires today.

He will not, I think he will play. He is setting up his exit on his own terms, that includes Tomlin and Haley and all the players on board need to pull it his way, which i think was like 10 years ago. They're close but they have to tap down this circus Tomlin's Romper Room

demand AB to grow up ( i am sure he will privately)
show the youngsters that goofing off will be met with getting waived. Look at what BB did this year....heavens i tip my hat to that asshole, but there is an undercurrent of coddling and not everyone is there to win.

We should have been prepping with life without Ben when he was 30. Instead—Landry Jones…Michael Vick…

I don’t know if he’s leaving, or if he’s leveraging the crisis created by the prospect of his leaving to get something done about the ineptitude we saw yesterday. Right now, this team is a bunch of selfish, undisciplined, sulking children. And the coaching staff thinks it’s 2001 or something.

If Ben is somehow serious and actually does retire, the pretender, the bug-eyed fuck had better GET THE FUCK OUTTA DODGE as fast as is humanly possible.

Before he's completely found out.

If the script were flipped and the Steelers laid that beat down on the Patriots, McDaniels and Patricia would be tip toeing into their offices today. Fuck they probably would have slept there last night. Haley and Butler are probably grab-assing some waitresses at Tilted Kilt right now three hours into a liquid lunch.

Ben retires, which I think he doesn't yet, but assuming he did, this team becomes a shit show.

Tomlin's body of work is due in large part to #7

You are expected to win games with a HOF QB

Tomlin is a dunce

Bad enough getting humiliated again, but now we have to think about this team minus Ben?
