They really liked Ryan Clark at FS. They liked having an enforcer who would take your head off. It worked with a healthy Polamalu and Ike Taylor, and before the rules were changed to eliminate that style of play. It's crazy to think how long ago 2008 was. But, I digress...
Mike Mitchell is a poor man's Ryan Clark. Coming in, he looked like he had the potential to be a more athletic Ryan Clark, and I think that's what the Steelers envisioned him as being. Whether he's more athletic is up for grabs, but he's definitely a less intelligent Ryan Clark.
I think he's fairly paid for what he brings to the table. He's average. The real problem is that the Steelers want a headhunter at FS when they need a capable center fielder.
Mitchell Overpaid?

Exactly...which is why I say they, emphasis on "they", are perfectly fine with him as a starter and what they pay him. We may not like it, but they aren't looking to replace him, or upgrade the position any time soon.

I just felt like safety was a bigger need going forward than drafting two corner projects. They did go to FA and sign one (Stafford). That said, I think they agreed with you, the safety class wasn't as deep (talent wise) as most speculated through the scouting process. I however did like several draftees at the position and believe they could have made a selection in the mid-rounds.
Like I stated in my earlier post there were players available that were certainly worthy of "developmental" status. Much like the two corners selected. I hope Sutton makes the cut and proves he belongs. Sutton will likely get his opportunity on ST's. Returning. Allen is a long shot and is a bigger project developmental wise. Could he play safety and/or corner? I try him at both and see what is more natural for him.
