They're preserving Snell so he's fresh for his shift at Arby's.

Yeah we hit em with a 3/4 load for sure
If the Steelers can put together a decent oline this team may be quite good

That was a good "game" by preseason standards. I was encouraged by Oline play , Ballage, JuJu and Freiermuth and of course, Big Ben. It looks like a team making progress in the areas they needed to, considering all the youth/new guys on this team. Detroit is pitifully bad, but ...

The one thing I learned from my nany years watching football is that the preseason means dick. Lions undefeated in preseason, then going 0-16. The Browns were always preseason favorites. I guess you can kind of guage some things, like Ben's arm strength. If people think Detroit sucks by watching last night's game, then Pittsburgh isn't that far behind them.

The results of pre-season mean dick, I agree. But there are also meaningful, often accurate indicators for whats coming.
IMO, Steelers showed way ahead of Lions in preparation, focus and talent and I am not a Tomlin advocate. In fact, I am probably here damning him with faint praise. The most meaninful indicator for my claim will be the Buffalo opener. But my needle had a slight bounce toward optimism.
On the other hand, how would you like to be a Lions fan? Spare me the no-Goff obsevation, like that stiff will turn things around.
Dan Campbell signed a 6 year contract? If things continue apace he wont last the season. Right now he seems to have a brighter future doing stand-up.

Craig Reynolds would be, what... the 2nd or 3rd best RB on the Steelers roster? With the Detroit-BLESTO-Steelers connection and the Steelers backup RB situation, wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in Pittsburgh someday soon.
Another guy worth looking at is Jake Funk, teammate of AntMac and the Tomlin kid under Matt Canada. Showed something in last night's Rams game.

The guy is what…6’2”, 230 and runs a 4.4? Yet this is his fourth team in four seasons. Why?bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 2:07 amSee, I thought I was wrong about Ballage but now I think I may have been right about him!Orangesteel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:22 amI was wrong about Ballage. Benny Snell might be cut.
I have no legit answer, but I wouldn’t get too excited just yet.

Really? I thought our starters pretty much dominated theirs. It wasn't until the 4th quarter they made the game close because their backups were better than ours.Stlcrtn1974 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 11:10 amIf people think Detroit sucks by watching last night's game, then Pittsburgh isn't that far behind them.

The 0-16 was long ago. Things have changed. Camps have shortened, practices have much less contact etc. so maybe a reevaluation is due for the preseason importance from 2-3 decades ago. Overall though I think you are correct in terms of the final record.Stlcrtn1974 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 11:10 amThe one thing I learned from my nany years watching football is that the preseason means dick. I think it is also a pretty good indication if one’s season will be a shit show or not.
Ben to Mooth shows me a ton. Nobody can defend those 12 points when your TE can run a quick post in the end zone, post-up the guy and do a quick body turn in air and grab the laser from Ben. Those TDs were no fluke either. That play will be unguardable. Can’t double team Mooth, Claypool and DJ at the same time. And I have a feeling Friermuth will not be flaky like Ebron.
Maybe he will even help Ebron with a self fabricated “I am not going to be shown up by a stiff donkey from PSU” chip on his shoulder.
Good points on "Mooth." I hope you're right about Ebron not wanting to be shown up.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 4:01 pmThe 0-16 was long ago. Things have changed. I have complained about Ebron more than most here. After watching him closely for years, his biggest problems are a lack of maturity and laziness (compared to most other vet players - especially high 1st rounders). He can get open with the best of them and he can do that in his sleep due to his god given ability -- that's been his biggest problem, too. It's allowed him to be lazy and still get paid handsomely. If he actually worked at his craft half as hard as someone like Heath or Mooth did/does he could be an elite TE, imo. Hell, just a few weeks ago he admitted he's finally decided to take blocking serious -- after 8 years as a pro. Need I say more.

Ben may have found his velcro handed Endzone / Redzone target in Mooth. if the kid claims he never drops TDs...then he takes pride in catching the ball FIRST. He is 6'-5"...........but it seems like he plays taller than he is ...in the endzone vs. shorter DBs and LBs.
Height, leaping ability, change of direction are all great attributes in a compacted endzone. He showed alot of that Saturday night.
This offense has many weapons JuJu, Chase, DJ, Mooth, Washington, Ebron......now has a very talent, physical back.
It will be the OL that needs time to jell.
But ulitimately, it will still be up to a coaching staff that dictates the offensive game plan, utilizes all the talent, plays ahead of the chains, uses the whole field and play book.
Using first down and second down to get to manageable third downs has been the downfall of this offense.
They need to leave that mentality in 2020.
Sub-optimizing the offense, before we even break huddle has been a huge problem for the Steelers under Tomlin.
Having your most talented players on the field, on the most critical, game changing downs and distances has been a play calling deficiency.
First and goal from the 3 and in....the 2021 PS need to be 10x better at running the ball into the endzone.
Most of all, they can not be so predictable with play calling, based on player personnel and formations, down and distance, spot on the field. Another huge Tomlin flaw.
The 2021 PS Redzone offense should be able tocall anything, do anything......... if the 5 weapons on the field are Harris, JuJu, Chase, DJ and Mooth.
Go Steelers.

So true DP.He can get open with the best of them and he can do that in his sleep due to his god given ability
If he can understand he is a natural at getting open and creating distance from his defender...................that nothing else matters if he does not seal the deal. Catching the ball FIRST is secondary to YACs. Catching the ball in his zones means moving the chains and or winning plays to make the next down and distance an advantage.
Give Ben 2 TE's that can do what these two can.......

There is a lot to like about this 2021 steelers
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
If the OL holds up and gels, and Tomlin stays out of the way of the offense, there will be a shit ton to like.

I know the pass wasn't caught (though it was definitely on the money), but on replay on NFLN just now, that 1st drive pass where Ben read, pumped, reversed field and gunned it to Ebron was vintage Ben and an excellent sign.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
