I assume it's DVOA. It's a good metric for reviewing a season, but 7 games in it's just not meaningful.

But if a team 18th in scoring and 27th in yards [or thereabouts] is #1 in DVOA, then that's a fucked up stat.

Common sense. There's no universe where a team 18th in points and 28th in yards is #2 in defense, unless said stat is lacking sufficient sample size.

You're anecdotal example is NEVER going to be the difference between #2 and fucking 28th.
