On a direct snap, he has to wait to receive the ball before he can start moving).
It worked...we won...props to Tomlin.
PS Wonder what he would have done had Bell failed to get in and there was 1-2 seconds left? Given what others have said about the state of our defense in that heat, I wouldn't have minded if he chose to go for it again.
Even though a handoff would have saved a second, I think the wildcat snap was a better choice. If you're going to give your best player one play to win the game, you pick a play that fits his best attributes. For Bell, that means getting him the ball deep enough in the backfield that he can use his vision to pick his way through the chaos.

I criticize Tomlin when he's a bonehead, and I will praise him when he's right. Balls-ass call at the end of that game. And he may have actually learned a lesson from last week - give the damn ball to your Horse!

I was screaming at the TV the whole last drive "play for the win play for the win!"
I'm glad Tomlin got that. Now, I don't know how much of his thinking went into all of the plays that got us to the 6 inch line, but he made the call to go for the win at the end and it was a ballsy, brilliant call.
As B2B said, no way is that team winning in OT. Mike T saw and opportunity and capitalized. Something he hasn't done much of his whole career but he sure as hell did it last night. Props.

If you paid any attention AT ALL, Tomlin said last week in an interview with Stephen A. Smith that he trusts his coordinators. He added that he has veto power, but trusts his coaches. Haley called both stupid plays last week, but as Tomlin said the missed FG's changed everything. Last night Ben called the TD pass play to Wheaton, Tomlin demanded that Bell have the ball on the game winning play.
Todd Haley adds nothing.

At this rate, by the time the snow starts falling Heyward and Tuitt are going to be rung out dishrags. One could easily get injured pretty bad if they don't get some wave players in there that can play some quality snaps. Either Walton has to grow up fast or I can see Keisel coming back for the back nine.

Right - and Tomlin probably made damn sure it didn't happen again this week.

He's the fucking coach, and the fucking coach probably made DAMN sure it didn't happen again this week. But that same fucking coach should have made damn sure it didn't happen last week.

I actually stopped by to say I will give credit where it's due
They did a good job today
And it's actually starting to look like getting rid of Lebeau was a needed move

Props to Tomlin for this team at 4-2 and right in the middle of it.
And this team appears to be on the rise.

4-2
4-2 and think about all the guys who have missed games or got hurt today. 4 QBs, 4 PKs, 2 LTs, 4 safeties, 3 ILBs, 4 diff WR starters, 4 different CBs started, 2 RBs started. 4-2 with that pretty good... SOMEBODY is responsible for that, ultimately.
At least he has a 'normal" name, Ron.

You have to give credit where credit is due. Tomlin has this team at 4-2 while dealing with quite a bit of adversity. The defense, our achilles heal entering this season, is playing extremely hard and trending up. Get Ben back next week hopefully and you're staring at one of the 3 best teams in the AFC.
Also have to give a lot of credit to Butler. We're giving up yards, but we're getting TOs and stopping teams from scoring. We beat one of the highest scoring offenses in the league with Robert Golden starting in the secondary. That's all you need to know.

I'll tell you what, I'm all aboard the Butler train for sure. Holy smokes has that man got the D hunting bear.
55 rushing yards allowed against 'Zona.

I try and balance it off by giving Tomlin credit where credit is due, and by all accounts, he's had a lot of input working with Butler on this new D, so kudos to Tomlin for that, and for being at 4-2 with what we have had to deal with.
But dammit, his sub-optimal decision-making in other areas does just bug the shit out of me, so I can't help commenting on them.

I thought this thread was silly.
After hearing Tomlin say he wouldn't have pulled Vick if it weren't for the "hamstring," it's not so silly.
I wonder if he's really that dense. Did he tell Vick to run and feign an injury? I did see him say something to Vick right after the run, as Vick made an attempt to get to the huddle, and that's when Vick returned to the bench. Is saying he wouldn't have benched Vick a Cover Your Ass moment?
And no. I'm not a conspiracy theorist.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

I don't think you calling someone "not that bright" will
coheres anyone into changing their mind about Tomlin.
You need to develop a better
repoire with people if you want to be persuasive.

I don't put much stock into what Tomlin says to the media.
My take is that he respects Vick and wouldn't tell us if he was planning on pulling him either way.

I can virtually guarantee that if they start Landry Jones against the Chiefs, Tomlin will mention Vick's (and Ben's) health as a determining factor. People are really kind of ridiculous in their expectations for Tomlin to belittle his players in the media.

Yep. No coach in the NFL is ever going to say "I'm benching ________ because he fucking sucks."
