Re: Tomlin bans jersey swapping
So we're to the point where everybody's going to complain about anything they perceive Tomlin not doing enough of and mock anything he does. Neato, gang.

It turns out Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is not to blame for a recent edict regarding Steelers players not being allowed to exchange their jerseys with other players.
As a reader wisely pointed out, the Steelers entered into an agreement with Fanatics Authentic, an online distributor of sports memorabilia, Sept. 26. Antonio Brown recently gave his game-worn jersey to Jaguars practice squad receiver and childhood friend Tommy Streeter, which appears would be in violation of this partnership.

Sure they want players to buy each others jersey's instead of trading them It only makes dollars and cent... ah, I mean sense. A total non story. Has Tomlin pulled the same laughable BS for hats now too?![]()
How about for every in game penalty that can be confirmed on tape (not official manufactured) Tomlin imposes some sort of fine that at the end of the year is donated to the Pittsburgh Area YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs or some sort of scholarship? I think that route may be taken more seriously. JMO
All of this make too much sense, Tomlin will never go along with it

In that case, I'm looking forward to all of the posters who just had to make 7 pages worth of snarky comments about Tomlin over this to now come forward and apologize for the overreaction.
Anyone?
<crickets>
Still stupid to ban a gesture of sportsmanship for reasons of profit-taking.
I'll cop to saying it was stupid to ban a gesture of sportsmanship for reasons of team-building, earlier.
I'll assume the reporter who originated the story won't be so generous.

That's hilarious
Will need a power washer to get the egg off if some of the faces around here
Wow.
How long will it be before they start selling player sweat in vials?
How about shoe laces for $50?
$500 - $2,000 for a sweaty jersey?
This is beyond absurd. But I find it comical that someone would pay that kind of money for a shirt. Is this really that important to some people?
Exchanging jersey's among players is one thing, but selling them to fans?
It borders on pathetic and some kind of obsessive disorder.
Also, how much more money can the NFL make? How much is enough? This really says something about our society.

The real funny part is that the collector's market is so goddam saturated because of this crap that those jerseys will never actually be worth that much anyways.
Yet, continue to pony up the cash for this crap.

This sounds like this is on the Steelers... They have the agreement with Fanatics Authentic
I think what raised eyebrows was Antonio's comment on how "Coach Tomlin wants us to be focused on winning"...which was laughable given the Keep Feeding Brown fiasco.
I think if that hadn't been in there, there would have been less vitriol.

Could be. My understandings that teams share profits. Don't know if this is in those profits, but it seems money made from merchandize specific to teams would go to that particular team. Deals with broadcasting or advertising are shared, but I did read somewhere that a percentage of ticket sales, concessions/merchandize and parking are also shared.

Tomlin is just spinning the regulation into a "team building decision" for the media.

Feeding Brown last week does not mean that Tomlin is not focused on winning.

Thats a pretty stupid thing to "raise your eyebrows" over.

When you take an unnecessary risk...no matter how small...when no risk need be taken, it can be construed as not being focused on winning.
And as Fury pointed out, Tomlin himself once set a standard.
"I walk past five Lombardis, not five rushing titles".
But apparently he walks by five 21 game streaks of 5 catches for 50+ yards.
Didn't help that ABrown was the one that said it either.
"Bad optics".

This was a stupid topic, but any man that pays or stands in line to get another man's signature for himself is sad.
