Chickillo’s a serious TURD.

Pretty sure he's Dupree's replacement.

The Steelers save $3.6 million in salary cap space (no post-June-1 designation).

Can't believe they were on the hook that much for a broken down injury prone player like Burnett. Blessing in disguise. Good bye!

The remaining pro rated signing bonus will be spread out over two years, so $1.416 million for 2019 and then $1.416 million for 2020. Minus displacement of him on the roster, say somebody signed for $495,000 to replace him in the top 51, and the savings is more like $4,555,000 if you want to get really specific.

Burnett is really interesting in a bad way. The way we wanted to use him was not really different from how he was used in Green Bay quite frankly. In GB they used him at times as a dime backer, I remember being impressed at how he would line up in coverage on Leveon Bell when we played them a couple times. The Steelers were not shy in telling the world what they expected in signing Burnett. So then he comes here and is shocked with what they expected of him???

His signing came before the draft and they they spend a 1st rounder on Edmunds and he ends up starting 15 games as a rookie, mainly due to Burnett not being able to stay on the field.

More than anything this goes to their approach to free agency, it isn't so much that they are dumpster diving for inferior prospects.

No, it is that they are being too frugal with their money and are instead gambling on injured players being able to make comebacks.

Joe Haden had injuries which led to the Browns cutting him. McDonald, Ladarius Green, Boykin, Burnett, etc. All of these players were talented, some were high pedigree, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd round pick, etc, but the Steelers continue to be thrifty in free agency by gambling on talented but injury prone players.

Sometimes it works out as in Haden and Mcdonald but other times it doesn't like in Green, Boykin and Burnett.

Great post Scunge!
You nailed it!! the Steelers keep gambling on these cheap FA with problems and it just doesn't work.
I keep hoping they would spend the money on one quality FA, not 3 injured has bin's.
I bet that 2 of the 3 signed this year will be released next year and we will be posting about how bad the players where.
But in reality the Steelers won't change and its always groundhog day with free agency.

@RapSheet
The #Browns are giving S Morgan Burnett a 2-year deal worth a maximum value of almost $9M, source said. He gets nearly $4M fully guaranteed at signing. That indicates they will be counting on the 30-year old. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/111 ... gr%5Etweet

How the hell does this paycheck thief get away with it? Holy Shit! Tip of the cap.... :|

The Browns do what they do, too.

Weird. He couldn't stay healthy and the Browns are counting on him?? So he begs for a release so he can sign w/ a division rival? That's dumpster juice type stuff right there.
