Post Ravens Mock
Re: Post Ravens Mock
I guess we have 2 1sts and 3 3rds on D line. Not embarrassing next to dallas. If we want 5 1st round picks for our 2 dline positions like the eagles, I think the focus should be free agency, not draft.
Great info @Stosh-67 and thanks for giving me McCullers' name. God, the rest of that crew was even more forgettable.
Given my proximity in northern Delaware, the Iggles are the exact example I think about during this conversation. They invest in both the trenches and skill players, and the result over a few decades (really goes all the way back to Reggie White, Golic, Brown, Simmons) has been pretty consistently good. Once Reid got there, the Oline got priority, too, and a perennial contender was the result.

I think the worry is that the pantry needs a run to Costco. Cam is either injured or feeling Father Time or both.
I don’t know about 5 1st rounders, but I’m just scratching my head at STDs suggestion that we go midround and later only (if that is what he is really suggesting) on O and D line on the assumption the FO is going to hit on effective starter quality gems in these rounds. I’d like to see the evidence that makes this strategy for success probable for this organization.
The track record ain’t pretty.
The needs are deep wide and many.
CB (need a leave on a island shut down stud badly)
DL
LT
ILB
WR

Good point.
absolutely. Have to be both Draft and FA.

I'm assuming the two 1sts are Heyward and Alualu. Two warriors, especially Cam, but two very grey-bearded warriors.
Like Lit said, the cupboard needs a Costco run for some top end talent.
Also in agreement with the Professor, there are a lot of needs.

Drafting those slugs high is one thing when you are loaded and have a HOF QB
But you don’t draft a fucking guard and a space eater 3-4 DL with 15 and 33 on a team whose only real talent is a rookie WR that your QB can’t get the ball to

I understand "they've never done anything" is your rallying cry, but the same could be said for everyone on the team since 2009, at every position, so it's a bit of a hollow rallying cry.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 12:35 am2 guys who have never really done shit when it mattered

And here come the Steelers outta the huddle down 6 with 2:45 left
I’d look for them to focus on their offensive guard here. They spent a 15th on him and it’s crunch time.

It's weird STD mentions the defensive meltdown vs Bortles and Jacksonville, but doesn't mention the loss to Cleveland as heavy favorites far more recently?Ice wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 12:51 amI understand "they've never done anything" is your rallying cry, but the same could be said for everyone on the team since 2009, at every position, so it's a bit of a hollow rallying cry.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 12:35 am2 guys who have never really done shit when it mattered

As well as a couple of high profile skill position folks not exactly lighting up the stat sheet. In both games. Team had what, 3 playoff wins since 2009? Plenty of blame to go around.

The Steelers had two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on their DL and got completely ass smacked
They had 2 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder on the OL that game as well
So much for “it’s all about the trenches” and high draft capital huh ??

I believe the point the non-feces throwing crowd has been trying to make is that it's about balance when acquiring personnel, whether through the draft or FA, and that the team's approach has lacked that balance for a while, and requires a bit of a course correction, while acknowledging that there are certainly plenty of needs to go around.

Still waiting to hear about your level of confidence the FO is going to fix the trenches with adequate starters pulled only from mid rounds and later.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 1:50 amThe Steelers had two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on their DL and got completely ass smacked

Thanks.
Also, we’re still talking about Tomlin who relies on superstars and individual effort rather than forward thinking schemes, right? Channeling B2B, here.

What’s obvious is you don’t want to because we both know the answer.
You also have reading comprehension problems if you think I’m advocating spending high draft picks on a “plethora” of linemen.
You’re really not doing very well in this particular exchange.

But this isn’t remotely true. Bucs did. Rams did, at least back when they had draft capital to spend. Eagles did. Patriots dynasty was built off of spending their highest pick on a fat linemen 6 times in 7 years.
I have no clue what team you are imagining actually followed your universal rule.
