I'm telling you all, if what I heard last offseason has any truth to it, do not be shocked if this hold up is about Tomlin deciding if he wants to return as HC or move up in the org or walk away into something new. This Brian Flores story headline makes me wonder if we're being prepped for him taking the reins.

Pretty hard to decide if that's a good or a bad thing, honestly.

If the plan is to have Flores take over, him interviewing elsewhere is an odd way to go about it.

I’ll be completely floored if Tomlin is not the HC next year.

After the Tampa, Arians hand off to Bowles, when the Steelers signed Flores, that was my initial question.

Are they bringing him on, to transition as HC once Tomlin steps down??

Fingers crossed

I think I'm just as worried about Tomlin stepping up as I am hopeful about someone new taking over HC. Also, this model didn't exactly go great guns for TB.

Yes but again it should be pointed out that Tampa lost Gronk, AB (who meant more to that offense than one might think) and the entire interior offensive line. That’s hard to make up for.

When the Steelers finally move on from Tomlin, it will be a risk. Will the new guy be better, or worse?

You can’t know…you can only try to mitigate.

You pick…based on whatever your metrics are…whoever you think can take the Steelers to the next level…and then see if he can.

I mean, Chuck Noll’s tenure started out 12-30. There was improvement every year, but did the untrained eye of the typical fan see that he was going to be different than all who had come before?

You never know…you can only make the decision as best you can.

Yeah, I think Tampa's struggles were definitely more a function of the players lost, than the coaches.

With that being said, I think it's pretty clear, Arians is a hell of a coach.

Flores out on the interview circuit is interesting transition strategy.

It seems there is a PR campaign to ease a transition to another HC.

Life without Ben, kinda hard. Get a new HC in there, younger, and the new QB, could be a good thing to have. Flores might be in a good spot here.

I think Coach Mike is burnt to a crisp, in fact, if you will, he gets the true feeling of himself only when he's unbearably unhappy, and so forth.

Well, Flores has to do what he has to do until Tomlin decides 100%, at least in this scenario I'm floating. The last thing you'd want is for Flores to pass on a HC job and then Tomlin decides he's running it back.

I'm not saying that is what is happening.

I'm saying, that was my initial thinking... or more accurately, my initial wishing lol

really anything that involves changing the HC

This is starting to get pretty interesting. Tomlin exiting now would cap a pretty remarkable career and him preserving NHALS this season might be all he needs to ride off into the sunset.

You have Flores already here and could be making him a very competitive offer to keep him.

Let Flores bring in an entire new group if he sees fit. Canada can be retained as an assistant but his coordinating days are over.

Please please please let it be so!!!

Especially with the news that Mike Tomlin is already back in the office, so to speak.

Coach Mike will be the first Coach retained past his lifespan.

They will have a contract with his soul, if you will. Coach Saint Mike.

Hologram Coach Mike.

I mean, they could upload his mind to a Jaz drive, then feed that data into a Gateway2000 machine, hook up some speakers, put it on a cart, and BOOM Hologram Coach Mike.

I mean, going from 2018 to 2019, Brady lost Gronkowski and his YPA went from 7.6 to 6.6. He was broadly described as ‘done’, got let go and went to Tampa. Got Gronkowski (and AB) back, YPA back up to 7.6, and Tampa was the best team in the league over the next two seasons. Lost Gronkowski again, YPA fell from 7.4 to 6.4.

I think if you put a strong offense around him, he’ll still be fine. He’s been very limited physically for a long time now. But there are plenty of other QBs who can look good in a strong offense too, so I wouldn’t want to pay Tom Brady money for him.
For whatever it's worth - It wasn't just Gronk. Tampa lost all three of their starting IOL from 2021. Cappa signed with Cincinnati, Jensen was injured in camp, and Marpet retired suddenly in the offseason. That'll impact the running game and it's pretty significant for a statue QB like Brady.
It's almost like having a good Oline is a precursor to a successful offense. I know it's crazy to think. Maybe someone could relay that message to the FO and start drafting some

Not necessarily to *coach* though. He could feel fire to run the football side of the organization with a lot less headahces. Listen, I don't if it's happening this offseason, but I suspect that's the endgame with Tomlin.
