What is Tomlin's defensive gameplan in the playoffs and how is it deficient?

The defense sure as fuck wasn't the problem last year in the playoffs and the previous year, the offense turned the ball over 5 times. I'd love to know how many times a playoff offense turned the ball over 5 times and won.

My bet is......wait for it.......very few teams win making that many mistakes.

Obviously that was a brainless decision by Tomlin and he deserves all the criticism in the world for it.

Those mistakes are largely a result of Tomlin's own shitty prep and approach.

Again, 3 playoff wins in 12+ years with a HOF QB and generally above average overall talent. You can count the number of times Tomlin outcoached someone with a better team.

What part of allowing 42 points per game in the playoffs over the last four games didn’t sink in to you? Was it Mahomes doing absolutely anything he wanted throwing for 400 yards and 5 TDs? Was it Baker Mayfield led Browns scoring on their first four drives, Mayfield putting up 3 TD passes and a 115 QB rating despite the team being ravaged with Covid and having no head coach? Was it the Blake Bortles Jags scoring TDs on 3 of their first 4 drives on the way to 45 points? Maybe it was Brady and the Pats scoring in 6 of their first 7 drives while putting up 36 points that you missed.

The Steelers defense quite literally hasn’t stopped anything in those games. Opposing QBs are putting up 110+ QB ratings and the Steelers forced 1 turnover total. Two of the QBs were Bortles and Mayfield. The Steelers are a team built on defense that spends heavily on D. Any other defensive coach with those performances gets fired.

The defense had to be gassed from being on the field in both of those games, from the offense being unable to sustain any drives and turning it over nearly as many times as the points they scored.

Turnovers are demoralizing. When they come in bunches, you’re done.

Not being able to put up any points against Patrick Mahomes is demoralizing.

When your offense is going 3 and out constantly against a guy like Mahomes, the floodgates ARE going to open.

The defense fought their asses off in the first quarter of that game. Even scoring a TD that I’m sure they hoped would light a fire under the offense.

It didn’t happen.

The offense continued to fail miserably and then Mahomes started carving the defense up.

My point is, the defense had 1 good quarter in that game. A very good quarter.

The offense was awful for 4 quarters.
