I dunno. From what I've seen from our defense so far this preseason, somehow I don't think it's going to make a difference whether the opposing team needs to go 80 yards or 70 yards to score a TD. The only difference might how long it takes the WR to run that extra 10 yards to get into the end zone.

the extra ten yards could cause a pulled hamstring...... might be worth it, idk. Its about time to trade ben and burn the place down.

this always seems to help

Josh Scobee is restructuring his contract. The Steelers are not signing him for $3.4 million that he made in Jacksonville.

But who is working on it on the Steelers side? I thought this board already fired Colbert.

Honestly, if you'd have told me a month ago that we got Scobee for a 7th I'd a been like hell fucking yes. Huge upgrade to Suishy. Don't tell me the rest of you wouldn't have felt the same way.

The route it took to get him is wild (two hurt kickers) but the end result is we got better in the kicking game.

This is good news only if a restructuring doesn't tie us to him for several years.

Seems the members here may have spent 10 pages of hostility for nothing.

Why don't we wait until all the dust settles with this trade....

Besides, some of you have to get back to the farm and tend to the crops.

Oh wait so we're not spending $6M on kickers thereby dashing any hopes of the 2015 Steelers contending? Phew!

You guys should focus your energy on the real problems, like the defense. I'll continue to assume the D is just playing possum, waiting to unleash hell on September 10th.

Kickers have weird shelf life, much longer if they keep that leg healthy. If Scobee is hear for another 2-3 years and wins us games I'm all for it.

LMAO, good catch. This may only mean PIT isn't paying him THIS year. Although it could have been some sort of conditional "reverse" sign-and-trade deal - he knows he's being cut, agrees to terms with PIT and pretty much everyone wins with the deal. Just that it's the sort of outside-the-box creative deal that PIT has rarely, if ever, done.

I forget which poster here has the theory that the Steelers purposely have their kickers kick it short on kickoffs so as to create the opportunity for turnovers on the ensuing return. Maybe VanWilder...

In any case, if Scobee (can we call him Scooby?) starts kicking it to the 5 yard line then you're on to something.

Love the move even more if they can restructure. The Ratbirds have a huge edge on us that they exploit in close games with Tucker. Would be nice to close that gap.

This would mean our coaches are retarded to the point that I would have to find a new team.

Is it possible they are signing Scobee to a multi-year deal. Lower his money for this year - and give him a chance to compete for the job next year by structuring the deal in a way where it doesn't cost them anything if he's cut?

Yeah, a lot of knee-jerk over the top responses here that frankly should embarass people who made those over the top comments or simply just quoted them.

I still contend many of them would be back here complaining about the front office the first time the cheap replacement kicker that got cut from a one of those 4 or 5 other teams missed a kick for the Steelers. Double points if they would have mentioned Scobee by name as a guy the Steelers "should" have gotten.

You do realize restructuring is not necessarily a pay cut but usually just defers part of the cap hit to the following year?

Yeah, Garopolo will only throw for 400. Great line.

I actually felt sorry for Hitler at the end there.

I disagree (assuming an extension). It means Suisham is gone, which is a cause for celebration.

Clearly you havent been watching the o-line prior to Munchak, or any games against bottom feeders the last 5 years.

We don't know what it means until we see what it means. They could have tacked on a year for $9M, which means he's still a FA when he's cut but they'll spread the cap hit over 2 years. I don't know that you can do that technically, but something similar.

Sure it could - which is why I'm not calling for everyone in the organization to be fired 3 minutes after learning the news. I understand that when your starting kicker that you just resigned goes down with an injury that ends his season - you are going to have to make a move and probably spend money if you want the position replaced by someone with experience. Fact is I think if everyone took a deep breath and considered the alternatives - in the end they would realize this was a move that needed to be done. While it sounds great - I don't think you go into the season as a playoff contender hoping that your kicker whose barely kicked in this league is a guy to rely on.

Some teams may be in a position to take that gamble, I don't think the Steelers are one of them.
