Yea, I know. Shut up.

What is our record this year with both of them?

Well, a mighty hypothetical obviously. I still think to myself that Steelers could have won the Super Bowl last year had Shazier not gotten hurt. If he never hurts himself and Bell signs for what Steelers offered and both stayed healthy all year this year, it’s a 13-3 team even with bad officiating and Mike Tomlin.

Well, the Steelers were carrying both on their cap this year. It would have been nice if they were both actually playing.

I'll hold onto all this while I'm watching the Rats place next weekend.

Conner had two bad fumbles and Samuels missed two blocks that cost them games. Boswell blew a couple as well. This is a 12 win team with last years version of Boswell, Bell all year and Shazier still playing.

The again, Tomlin could’ve found new ways to fuck up a good thing.

Talent wise, this is a 12 win team with the current roster. Adding Shazier would have made this a 14 win team at least. But who knows where the coaching would have taken things?

Not sure exactly how many wins they add to the team. I will say that having 22 million less to spend on the cap is a negative factor when trying to win games. I mean just Bell's money could have produced a shut down corner and probably another starter and back up on D. That may have helped win some games as well. Imagine Haden and another guy that is at least as good as he is if not better and another OLB pass rushing specialist getting snaps on D instead of Chickillo.

Still is something wrong with the defensive scheme in terms of creating takeaways! Can’t put my finger on it exactly, but I am guessing it is talent, coaching and scheme. Coaching and scheme are different sides of the same coin, so I don’t think Shazier or Bell add to the win column.

I think the money being available would have added to the win column.

Like I mentioned in another thread, nobody will know what Bell would have added to the team in 2018. Who is to say that he wouldn't have sustained a season-ending injury at some point? His history of finishing a season healthy is not good. Also, are we absolutely 100% sure he wouldn't have fumbled in key situations? I'm not asking likelihood, I'm saying for sure. We don't know. So all those saying they're sure that the Steelers would have made the playoffs with Bell are full of shit.

And as far as Shazier is concerned, yes he was an amazing player, but STD didn't call him the Tubmonster for nothing. The way he played, he would have likely been injured for some period of time, too.

Maybe these guys would have made a difference in 2018. Maybe not.

This Defense was better with Shazier, but not much IMO

It’s my opinion that factors like these are going to play into Art II’s decision to keep Tomoin around.

They say they never use injuries as excuses...I think they do.

They knew Shazier wasn’t coming back...they made a half-hearted attempt to replace him.

They had no contingency for Bell fucking them over other than youngsters who turned out to be good, but are going to burn you with occasional mistakes.

But unfortunately they’re going to use these things as excuses to give Tomlin a chance to work with the next generation of offensive talent while giving him yet another shot at trying to rebuild the defense.
