Pens vs Rangers (4/6/21)

Post by Pabst » Tue Apr 06, 2021 7:15 pm

The injury rotation continues....

Tanev is back on IR. Jarry starts in net. Blueger is practicing in full, but won't go tonight.

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-McCann-Rodrigues
ZAR-Gaudreau-Lafferty
Zohorna-Jankowski-Sceviour

Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
Ceci-Matheson

Jarry

As for the Rangers: Since they last played the Penguins, they have....split with Boston, split with Philly, split with Washington, split with Philly, split with Washington, split with Buffalo. Their overall record is 17-15-5. What I'm trying to say is NY is a .500 hockey team.

Much like Boston, the NYR are a very top-heavy team. Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich is a solid #1 line. Panarin is a stud on their 2nd line.
Adam Fox has blossomed into a legit #1 defender. Beyond that.....there isn't much (right now). Weirdly, the Rags also have a very good PK.

Unlike Boston, the Rangers have a ton of youth in players like Buchnevich, Lafreniere, Miller, and Fox, Kaapo Kakko is there too, but he hasn't looked good in his NHL career thus far.

Shesterkin starts in net tonight. His season has followed a similar trajectory to Jarry - Hot garbage early in the year, but has been very solid in the last 2 months.

Overall, the Rangers have plenty of talent but are very inconsistent. Don't take them lightly.

I'm of the mind that this team is never going to be fully healthy. The Tanev injury is most curious. That Malkin still isn't skating after being told it was a week to week injury is troubling. I want him back for at least 5-6 games before the second season starts.

With the trading deadline a week off I'm not sure what kind of tweaking needs to be done. Certainly they don't need to add a big name though Taylor Hall is still being associated with a possible move. How that would work with the cap is a mystery. Having watched him play this year I wouldn't want him on this team.

Foligno/Soderberg/Glendening all make more sense if only to help on the bottom 6.

This sucks. That second goal was pretty shit job by Crosby. Once he turned it over in the Rangers zone you saw that goal coming a mile away.

That fourth goal was killer.

The Rangers took advantage of every Penguin mistake. The Pens had five or six excellent chances in front of Shesterkin and came away with nothing.

I'd like to think the Birdies could chip away at this lead and make it a game but I'm pretty sure the Rangers are not done scoring goals tonight.

Pretty sure this is what it looks like when ‘next man up’ runs out of steam.
