Want to know why the run game remained awful?

Post by Professor Half Wit » Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:59 pm

Alex Kozara has a post up on the dreaded Depot which, frankly, strains credulity.
https://steelersdepot.com/2021/09/the-s ... ins-words/

In sum:

1. PRIOR to the game, Mike Tomlin gives a fluff piece interview with Labriola. In it, Tomlin says that if you go heavy personnel to try to pound the rock, Cincy will bring in a 5th D lineman. Tomlin actually says, "If you try to run into that, you're stupid."

Can you guess where this is going?

2. Canada proceeds to call a large portion of run plays in the first half out of....heavy personnel....and Cincy....brought in a 5th D lineman......and Canada CONTINUED to call a large portion of run plays in the first half with heavy personnel into a 5 D line front....

3. See 1. Tomlin....having told Labriola only recently that doing this is just fucking stupid.....sits there as Canada does this.....repeatedly....

This is some amazing shit. Like, really amazing....

Here is a valid modus ponens syllogism:

P1 If you try to run into that, you're stupid.
P2 The Steelers OC and HC tried run into that for a half.
Therefore, the Steelers HC and OC are stupid.

Coach Tomlin is so far up the river he's creating self-fulfilling prophecies and doesn't apparently realize it.

It's Tomlinpocalypse Now.

Sorry but “hope” is not a strategy.

There goes my strategy for the rest of the year... maybe I'll pivot to "prayer."

#1... do not make Eric Ebron the most important block of any run. The guy is such a piece of trash. In the first play - his lazy ass can't get set in motion and leaves the T uncovered, which is a penalty and the EXACT thing this offense can't do which is move backwards... on top of missing two blocks on the play.

He simply can not be trusted to even try to do anything correctly.

The o line is so bad that I'm not sure Ebron doing his job would really make much difference. Maybe they can trot some WWI Russian officers onto the field and line them up behind the o line with pistols drawn, ready to shoot anyone who retreats from the front line....

But it's a helluva thing for the HC to sit there with his thumb up his ass while his OC does exactly what he said would be stupid to do.

I'm still waiting for someone smarter than me to explain what is different from Canada's offense vs Fitchner. It's the same garbage

If Dumblin had any balls, Ebron would be released today.

We're witnessing what happens when Tomlin doesnt have anybody left whose homework is worth cheating from. He's a fraud who lived off of experienced coordinators (all who are gone), and a SB caliber roster (of which he did not build).

The problem with that statement is you assume that Tomlin is aware enough to know that Canada is doing it! False - Mr. Cool Shades is absolutely clueless to what is happening on the field. He's thinking about his midgame burger! Tomlin is a useless POS to this team, but the owner is an even bigger idiot for not seeing it!

In their defense, they did run out of plays per Tomlin.

I'm ok with a disaster of a season or two if it brings about organizational change. I'll still watch the games. But it's been clear to me for several years that this is a franchise that is stuck in the mud. We've been good enough to keep Tomlin's streak of not being worse than 8-8 alive but not good enough to really be a threat to anything significant. And hey, it happens to all organizations. But the problem I see is that we're not willing to acknowledge it or change (at all).

1.) Some forward thinking family member needs to replace Art II.
2.) Tomlin and the coaching staff need to be turned over. Tomlin hasn't improved as a coach in at least a decade. He still makes the same mistakes today as he did when he first came here.
3.) We need to nut up and move on from Ben. We're 2 years and Tommy John at 37 past his shelf life. What made him special is gone and has been for anyone not drinking the kool-aid for some time. At this point he's a hinderance to progress.
4.) Unsure about Colbert. I think he's done well while being handicapped by an out to lunch owner and a coach who lost his hunger a decade ago.

Until these 4 things happen, we can expect the same mediocrity we've been seeing. Roast away at my pessimism but I think deep down people know I'm right.

And why as much as I want Tomlin gone, I fear this turd is going to hire somebody just as incompetent when he gets the chance.

26 years between SB victories last time might be a drop in the bucket compared to what we potentially face with Dunce in charge of hiring/firing coaches.

Once again…OCs change, offense remains the same. Tomlin tells us what he is, over and over. This is what Shades wants…he says it all the time. Attrition football. 18 play, 9+ minute field goal drive, down 17 late 3rd quarter…says it all!

Ehhh....we saw the team turn on the afterburners and put up lots of points plenty of times under Haley. And although we bitched about U-shaped offense with Haley, in reality, there was plenty over the middle and lots of bombs away that connected. Small ball really started when Randy took over the o line and QB got old. I think Randy fucking sucked. But this current incarnation has such poor talent and diminished once wases it just looks like Randyland.
