Gruden is a bitch
Total self righteous diva
I can’t believe the Raiders asked for his resignation over some old email slurs
I bet he said fuck it I quit rather than ever admit he was wrong and deal with the public from a humble stance

What you describe as some old email slurs is apparently a steady stream of racist, sexist, homophobic invective seasoned with 10 years worth of obscene personal slurs against league execs, owners etc.
The moral high ground stuff from the NFL is mostly fake. The Raiders ultimately canned him to maintain the profit margin.
Not looking for a morality fight here, and certainly not taking Gruden's side on this, but I find it interesting (and comical) that part of what he is getting crushed for is calling Goodell names when there have been countless grey faces all over the internet (and many on here alone) calling Goodell much, much worse.
I know that that part of this story is apples and oranges, but it's still somewhat ironic and comical. Almost everyone thinks Goodell is a $#&&^ -- just look at all of the boos/slurs he's gotten over the years come draft weekend.

The NFL is all about PR.
I get it…I’m not fond of extreme wokeness…but when you are all about PR, you gotta straighten up and fly right.
Gruden didn’t. Therefore he’s out.
Sucks…people shouldn’t lose jobs over this…but I see why the NFL did it.

Calling a black person a piece of shit is ok. But talking about a black person's lips has crossed the line into bigotry. That's a no no whether you are the CEO or Joe Six Pack.
And ESPN better get off their fucking high horse because he sent this stuff when he was employed by them. Yet that's buried in their stories. Disney can suck my cock...

There's no such thing as homophobic. Do you know the definition of a Phobia. Those who don't agree with that lifestyle choice don't have a Fear of homosexuals. I have zero fear of homosexuals. Obliteration Is Imminent
Like a stated...not trying to make this into a morality fight. While what Gruden said in his emails is wrong and certainly unacceptable (especially in today's world), if you don't think/realize Goodell is behind this story seeing daylight you're greatly mistaken. I do agree with a lot of what you wrote, though.Deebo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:32 pmIt's not about GoodellDP39 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:25 pmNot looking for a morality fight here, and certainly not taking Gruden's side on this, but I find it interesting (and comical) that part of what he is getting crushed for is calling Goodell names when there have been countless grey faces all over the internet (and many on here alone) calling Goodell much, much worse.

After posting my first comment, I just got around to reading the other Gruden thread where many observed, basically, what I did. Maybe I should have posted there instead....

Is it racist? It could be racist. Maybe Gruden wasn't lying when he called people -- black or white -- he deemed liars as having rubber lips. If there is truth to it, then no it isn't racist because Gruden wasn't using it in a racist way.Deebo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:32 pmIt's not about GoodellDP39 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:25 pmNot looking for a morality fight here, and certainly not taking Gruden's side on this, but I find it interesting (and comical) that part of what he is getting crushed for is calling Goodell names when there have been countless grey faces all over the internet (and many on here alone) calling Goodell much, much worse.

Reminds me of the Roseanne cancelling. Did she call the person a monkey because they were black (I didn't even know she was black) or because Roseanne thought she looked like a monkey?
I guess with all of this we are so quick to jump to something is "ist" that we never stop and ask: "How is the impacting the real world." It could be reasonable to assume that based on what Gruden says, Gruden asks in a certain way. But that is an assumption; not a fact. It is interesting that at least some black players seemed to support Gruden (suggesting that Gruden's actions speak louder)

Yes, but judgment without sufficient justification is called bigotry. So, while not fearful, you're likely just a bigot.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:58 pmThere's no such thing as homophobic. Gruden deserved to get canned and canceled.
....and he was.
Even though it's seen as a resignation.
He's done in the NFL.

Pedophiles.
Serial killers.
People who abuse the elderly or animals.
Those folks are canceled on a daily basis.
As for Gruden, there are a LOT of African Americans playing, coaching and in upper level positions in the NFL.
You don't come back from saying the head of the players union has "lips bigger than Michelin tires."
Go try something like that at your place of work, Perch. See how it works out.

There is a difference between discipline and cancel culture. You can be disciplined or lose a job for an insensitive comment, that’s fair. Cancelling a person from society for the rest of their life is dumb and pointless. And Disney owned ESPN being the arbiter of cancel culture is rich. How many pedophiles have worked inside their company over the years?K_C_ wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 5:15 pmSure there are.Steelperch wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 5:11 pmThere is not a human on the planet that deserves to be cancelled. The double standards on this whole over sensitive society is bullshit too.
Gruden was fired for saying the head of the players union had "lips the size of Michelin tires". Like I said, try saying those things about the head of the organization you work for and another high level executive.
Your ass will be canceled faster than you can say "Carl Nassib".
As others here have said, the NFL is about PR.
Gruden is bringing the NFL horrible PR.
Hell, maybe Johnny Boy can redeem himself, but he's got a LOOOOOOONG road back. We'll see if he wants to put in the work.
I imagine Gruden is set for life and will probably simply ride off into the sunset.

I’m hoping that Meyer is next and that both the Raiders and the Jags have a hard-on for Tomlin.
Please oh please let that become reality.
Only problem is that Dunce’s ass will pucker so tight at the thought of losing Jibbs and having to hire a new coach that he could cut several diamonds out his sphincter.

A2 would simply give Shades a lifetime contract starting at about $15 million a year with 20% annual raises.955876 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 5:30 pmI’m hoping that Meyer is next and that both the Raiders and the Jags have a hard-on for Tomlin.

Just like the CK thing, people (including Gruden and CK) have a right to say whatever the fuck they want.
But be prepared to suffer the consequences.
NFL teams didn't want the spotlight/circus of CK swirling around so that's partly why he's not on a team
The Raiders didn't want the circus of Gruden hanging around.
PLUS the added fact that a good portion of the people you are leading are black.
Would you want to go to battle for someone who clearly hates {insert race of your choice} people if you are {insert race of your choice}?

Holy fuck. You honestly don’t get why it’s probably not a brilliant idea to call a black person a “monkey”, whether you think they look like a monkey or not?

From the grave, Jimmy The Greeks says “wasssup?”
I shouldn’t waste my breath with you but here we go.
It’s not about whether something is a good idea or not. It is about whether there is racist intent. If Roseanne was unaware of the connection or unaware Jarret was black, then Roseanne calling Jarret a monkey isn’t racist even though the same words in different context could be racist.
Keep in mind this is who she was talking about. The point is that something that has racial whistles to it doesn’t necessarily mean the person saying it is racist. I’m asking for nuance. But smilely face away.
