RB unit
Why haven’t the Steelers been able to put together a Lombardi contending offense since Arians left ??
Much of it has to do with extremely poorly built RB WR and TE units. Especially RB
The Steelers should have a 1st and 2nd down back like Harris who can do everything well although maybe not elite, and another RB who can pass block with mismatch speed and catching ability to take 3rd down snaps, and a short yardage specialist with some blocking and pass catching ability
Additionally, is it too much to ask that the 3rd TE be able to excel in the occasional situational backfield role ?? And that the 5th or 6th WR could do so as well ??
Throw in a blocking RB if you must but is it too much to ask that he can catch the ball ??
That’s maybe 13 skill players on offense plus 3 QBs and 9 OL to get you to 25 or 24
Some of those guys are available every year as 6-7th rders and UDFAs

Inability to find legit 2nd and 3rd string backs is even more of a mystery than inability to find a punter. They are literally everywhere. 3rd round. 6th round. UDFA. Scrap heap. it just really boggles the mind.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:43 pmWhy haven’t the Steelers been able to put together a Lombardi contending offense since Arians left ??

Kinda liking several mid-late round guys in this draft to add some depth, youth and speed, but we do what we do.
With what we're likely to be trotting out at QB this coming year, adding to WR with anything resembling an expensive FA or high pick seems like tits on a boar, but it's going to be a multi-year build, so if the right guy's there...

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Najee is going to have his head beaten in this year. He looked wiped out in the playoff game. Coach MIke will help him shorten his career, it's the least he could do for the young man.
Waiting for the mutiny.

I want Raheem Mostert in free agency.
In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.
I would say the Steelers did have a Lombardi contending offense up until 2019. It's the defense that sucked during the teens.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:43 pmWhy haven’t the Steelers been able to put together a Lombardi contending offense since Arians left ??

Here’s a few reasons.
1) Jibbs loves to run the wheels off his bell cow. So as long as he has that bell cow I imagine the rest of the unit is an afterthought to him. I mean, the man can’t figure out the play clock inside two minutes. Asking him to think deeply bout back-up RBs is maybe putting too much on ole always the victim Jibbarooski.
2) given #1, he’s cool giving out roster spots to jags that share the same last name with a starter elsewhere on the team. No need to look for quality depth when a spot is already pledged to a family member.
3) misplaced priorities. See Dri Archer. Badly needed to add a RB to the mix and instead gets enamored but the bright shiny object that runs fast in a straight line. Come playoff time needs to pull a retired guy off his couch even though that 3rd round pick is healthy and should have been playing.
4) stupidity. Jibbs has never excelled at roster management.

There were definitely years after Arians left that the offense was good enough to win a SB. The defense went to complete shit to the point they were hard to watch.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

They need to convince the HC to stop the Bullshit of using one back to the wheels fall off

But see, that requires some actual thought and planning in terms of how you deploy those backs.steelmann58 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:19 amThey need to convince the HC to stop the Bullshit of using one back to the wheels fall off
All of which runs counter to Jibbs philosophy of “do what we do” and “game planning doesn’t matter” etc etc.
Much easier to have a singular plan for a bell cow and rinse repeat weekly. adjust on the fly if need be.
Jibbs doesn’t appear to like putting in those extra hours during the week.
Having a plan for RBs 2 & 3 requires overtime.

When the philosophy is “until the wheels fall off” little attention is given to depth and that’s burned them several times.
Never had a losing season. Sad thing is that they did have DeAngelo Williams behind Bell for a few years when he was still quite good - in fact he led the league in rushing when filling in for Leveon at one point. That would have been the perfect opportunity to feed both but unfortunately Bell and AB demanded so many touches... which fed perfectly into Tomlin's "feed the bell cows" mentality.... and DW was wasted on the bench.Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 3:57 amWhen the philosophy is “until the wheels fall off” little attention is given to depth and that’s burned them several times.
