Figured it was that…or some other drug (also found in his system). …maybe mental illness.
Ain’t being judgmental…I’ve done similarly dumb shit.

Stories like this, this far after the fact, are somewhere between unnecessary, invasion of privacy, and just straight up ghoulish. Like, I'm sure his family is so happy to have to read this shit.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
What about the families of the vehicles that struck him? Aren't they owed the truth?
You've got drivers/families that have to live with killing someone the rest of their lives. I know if that were me or a spouse/loved one who was put into that situation, I'd want to know if the guy that was hit was drunk out of their mind, which to still be over .2 at 6 a.m. is pretty much the definition of an insane amount of alcohol the night/early morning before. Haskins was drunk driving, so smashed he didn't realize he was out of gas with his rental car, then was trying to cross an interstate on foot.
I'm sure his family will try to pursue a civil suit against the drivers involved, especially since FL is a pure comparative negligence state, so this factor is hugely important to know as well.

He was a public figure and a professional athlete. He cashed the checks. It comes with the territory.
Maybe by publicizing this, someone someplace will learn that mixing alcohol and ketamine is an incredibly bad idea.
There’s value in that so that maybe he he didn’t die in vein.
The classic cautionary tale.
I get the legal implications, and the emotional implications for the driver involved; just seems like it doesn't need to be draped all over the ESPN crawl and the internet. All the parties who need to know could have been informed without dragging a kid months in the grave through the mud.

While I agree the "normal" right thing to do is what you suggest, Haskin's signed up for it when he cashed the big checks from the "entertainment" world. When you enter into that "watch me" world with all its fame, accolades, awards, rewards and unfathomable riches (for doing something you were basically genetically predisposed to do and worked to perfect it) it seems like one of the costs is a peek behind the curtain for all to see, good or bad, if you will.
If it was a local CPA or waiter, I certainly get it. "Watch me" folks, not so much -- they sign up for it.
I'm not saying that's the way it should be, but it's certainly the way it is. And the want-to-be-famous know it before they grasp for that gold ring.
Just my take, anyway.
I suppose there's truth to that, but once the "entertainer" is in the ground, we're really just causing additional pain to the family for the sake of, what, morbid voyeurism? It is the way it is, obviously. Just not sure that makes it right.

Again….I’m guilty myself…
It should be remembered, sports celebrity or not, he was ultimately committing a crime (multiple really). Doesn’t make him a horrible man or anything, but it is absolutely a situation that deserves to become common knowledge.
While his family is still grieving and I’m sure they prefer not to read about it anymore , the fact is they should take comfort that he didn’t ‘go out’ by taking a completely innocent person with him. …although the driver of that truck will prolly suffer emotionally for life.

Dude was shit faced! Bet he fell asleep while walking. Guess he was testing to see at what time “nothing good happens after 2:00 am” expires the next day!Orlaco wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:12 pmFigured it was that…or some other drug (also found in his system). …maybe mental illness.

They left some pertinent details out for this story that could change the whole complexion of the event:
1.) was he driving or was he making sure the woman didn’t have to deal with the issue as a passenger?
2.) How long until the blood was tested after the accident?
3.) (difficult to determine) Was his BAC on its way up or on its way down?
4.) Was he pronounced dead at the point of the accident, and if so is one’s BAC locked in at that moment of death or does your body keep expelling alcohol through other means?
-bleeding out
-osmosis through the skin
-or something along those lines.
.24 BAC if pretty fucked up! At his weight 231, that would be like downing somewhere between an 18 pack or 24 pack of 12oz beers in 60 minutes if my memory serves!
Shame.
Here is a question to ponder.
What if he did not run out of gas and continued driving.........
This story could have been much more tragic.
Or he could have gotten back to his motel room and fell a sleep and nothing at all happens.
Maybe if its this last scenario.........there a few more players that continue doing what Haskins did that night.
I am hoping his death has scared the shit out players who still do what he did that night. Haskins is not alone in what he did.

It's simply so dumb, especially with ride services available with a few swipes of your phone screen. Doubly stupid when you make that much money.

Weighty downs...the lifeblood of ball possession
I've been in several arguments about whether a pedestrian always has the right of way. Despite being drunk. I don't know the answer. I was taught that, legally, the pedestrian has the right of way, regardless if they are disobeying traffic laws. A 4K pound vehicle is no match for a 200 LB human. But walk into a highway drunk and you take your life into your own hands. Regardless. . .LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 11:50 pmDude was shit faced! Bet he fell asleep while walking. Tragic nevertheless, and I feel for the family. Fucked up situation all around.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

It's a damn shame but..... He chose to drive with a BAC of .24 and Ketamine in his system. This could have been a whole lot worse and I'm glad he did not take the life of someone else on that highway.
Completely avoidable and very sad.
RIP
