- How do you get a team to lose significantly for at least 3 - 4 years without alienating the fans and more importantly the other players ? Well, one way that might work is draft a hometown hero college QB with some very obvious red flags to the astute but largely unaccounted for by the masses

- Then all that has to happen is let nature take its course all the while the fanbase clamors to give said QB more time knowing the masses will not give up on the hometown hero fairytale for several years

- This scenario also allows you to trade foundational stars while you rebuild without getting maximum heat for it. You are merely rebuilding to get the golden boy QB the players he needs

The moron Coach is given leeway because obviously, they had to get a mobile veteran to replace Ben, but he sucked, now he has to get the rookie in.

This might be attributing too much intelligence to Coach, BUT could have come from central control which has lots of experience of creating stupid drama.
