Chuks Okorafor / Dan Moore Jr trade value

Post by SteelerDayTrader » Tue Nov 07, 2023 5:28 am

If the Steelers commit to RT in the 1st and C in the 2nd Chuks Okorafor or Dan Moore become tradeable as both would have next year remaining on their contract. I doubt they’d unload both. What kind of value do they each have traded in the offseason prior to the draft ??

A 5th would be real nice and probably pretty much assure a shot at drafting John Emery Jr RB LSU

What value do you think they could bring prior to the draft ??

What makes you think the Steelers are about to commit to OL with the first two picks?

Chuks has minimal value, will probably have to be cut.

Moore is on contract 1 and is worth a fifth, maybe even a fourth.

1) Most of the other positions look like a talent drop from 15-ish to about 60-ish

2) RT in the first could very well be the best RT in the draft and very solid player for a long time and I think the same for C in the 2nd

3) The Steelers need top talent at those positions. It’s not like this is a loaded team on the verge of a Lombardi. Why NOT grab great talent that you desperately need to make your brand of football work when it falls in your lap ??

I mean drafting OL with the first two picks could happen. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see a Round 1 safety or corner.

Would be and should be CB at this point unless Darius Rush somehow emerges as a quality starter this season. I’m not holding my breath for that.

Given Tomlin's aversion to starting rookies, drafting a rookie RT would virtually assure that at least one of Moore/Chucks is on the roster, hopefully Moore. I think I'd be looking to move on from Chuks in almost any scenario, based on $ and play more than compensation.

I don't know if the Steelers will go OL in 1 and 2, but if Weidl really has brought Iggles philosophy in terms of roster building, and the powers that be are listening, OL and DL in the top few picks is going to become a pretty regular occurrence in our draft lives.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Moore will get an extension and Chuks better put his realtor on speed dial. I could see C early or T in the middle rounds. Premium picks will be CB or DL.

It's an interesting conundrum the Steelers are in:

**It makes sense both financially and from level of play to release Chuks after this season. Will save close to $9M on the cap (although there's $3M in dead money too).

**I think they like Dan Moore Jr. and want to keep him on the team, but apparently he's awful at RT and perhaps they're starting to learn this whole some guys are better at their natural positions given what Dotson is showing with the Rams.

**Broderick Jones is talented and athletic enough to play both LT and RT, but he was clearly drafted to be their cornerstone LT for the next 10+ years.

So, what do they do?

My guess at this time: they trade Dan Moore Jr. in the offseason. He'd only have one year left on his contract, but he's still cheap as dirt on a rookie deal with a ton of experience and has shown that while he may not be solid, or even average, that he's at least a guy you can trust to go out there and not get embarrassed and not get your QB killed. I think they could get a 4th or 5th for Moore, especially given how Dotson has looked out of Pittsburgh.

Rather than cut Chuks, they let it ride for one more year with him at RT and stick Jones at LT in 2024. But that they use then one of their picks in the top 4 rounds on a tackle they'll want to insert at RT in 2025.

Seems easier to play Jones at RT now, cut Chuks in offseason (best move financially), and then draft another OT.

Let Dan Moore play out his contract and go from there. If he proves worthy of keeping keep him.

If not, move Jones back over to LT and put the draft pick at RT.

Ideally Jones becomes the LT for the next decade but it isn’t the end of the world if he has to play RT for a year or two.

And I’m skeptical Moore sucks at RT. Could be he and his agent posturing given LTs make more.

The Steelers are among the NFL’s worst teams in total offense (30th) and total defense (28th). Highest paid defense in the league by far. We are lucky to have Mike Tomlin.

I’d hate that

Best CBs and DL off the board and the Steelers draft Artie Burns and Ziggy Hood again

Why not target those positions a little bit later where upside starts to overtake downside length again ??

RT and C could very well be perennial all pro types that fall in their lap.

And the Steelers need top quality at those positions as much as any other

I don’t get the aversion to drafting a great RT prospect in the first. ???

I used to be of a mind the Steelers could find good RTs later but no more and I think recent history is on my side on that

If you can get a 4th for a backup OG you should be able to get a 3rd for a starting OT. Possible one of the reasons we kept chuks/moore tandem out there was hoping to keep their trade value up; getting benched has to hurt your value. Now we’re past the deadline though.

Still…..I’d be very damn happy to unload one of them before the draft for a 4th and the other after a 1st rd RT for a 5th

You and B2B nailed Dawand Jones. I thought he was going to be more of a project and all the rumors about him being lazy/not loving the game turned me off. But GD would I love to have that dude on this team now. I don't blame them taking DW in the third and I'm still hopeful he's going to work out as it's so hard to judge anyone in our current awful offense, but grabbing both Broderick and Dawand in the draft would have been a game changer.

The difference between LT and RT anymore really isn't there, so I wouldn't mind using a top pick on a guy at RT.

Initially that was all B2B but I’ve learned being an early adopter works out great if you early adopt from the right guy. Lol

And I just think I have a decent feel for what the Steelers want to run and the players who could be dominant in that situation

Jibbs doesn’t know how to build a team. Evident in having but 3 playoff wins over what 13 years?

Needs a RB and drafts Dri Archer.

Oline stinks and drafts a slow footed TE.

Oline still sucks and drafts an even slower footed TE.

Getting Jones, JPJ, and Jones would have been a home run.

Dawand looks like a beast out there. At least the snaps I focused on him. Looks like he has the physical ability to just erase his opposition.

Part of this teams problem is getting married to jags. Chuks is a fucking jag.

We’d we waaaay better right now with both the Jones boys and Zach Gentry instead of just Broderick and Washington.

Can Chuks play LT? We have heard that Moore can't play RT.
