Steeler Score Game Week 15 v Shoeless Horses

Post by jeemie » Tue Dec 12, 2023 4:07 pm

RESULTS thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21894

The Colts will likely be missing their workhorse Jonathan Taylor again this week. If he can play, the Colts are being awfully coy about saying so. He’s likely out.

Without Taylor, the Colts run as well as a horse that’s thrown its shoe, with the results you’d expect from their offense.

A perfect opportunity for the struggling Steelers to get healthy…but of course we only wish our offense would run as well as a shoeless horse. So prepare for another afternoon of agony.

Get yer picks in for this Saturday showdown, and be thankful the Colts are not 2-10, as the Steelers have lost to the last four such teams (2018 Raiders, 2020 Bungles, 2023 Cardinals, 2023 Patriots) they have faced.

If this game were in Pittsburgh, Mitch would get booed off the field like he did last season during the Jets home game.

This is not going to go well.

I think I’ve had one, maybe two weeks where I correctly picked the winning team, much less score

I think the Colts will win this game, which means

This week is a desperation game for the Steelers. Steelers usually when games like this after fucking up a season by losing to terrible teams (for example, the win in 2018 against the Patriots after blowing games against the Broncos and Raiders).

If the Steelers lose this Saturday, then I think NHALS is finished. Tomlin & Co will be looking to do whatever they can to avoid that and to quiet the suddenly very loud critics.

This blows my mind. An 0-4 streak against 2-10 teams.

I would love to see a comparison of Tomlin's record against teams that finish the season 5-11 or worse versus other coaches of teams with winning records versus teams that finish 5-11 or worse. I bet Tomlin is an outlier here, particularly if we filter out games against division opponents. Tomlin teams are frequent victims in trap games.

2009, when they failed to even make the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl, was possibly the worst for losing to such teams.

Remember they started out 6-2 and despite having a propensity to blow 4th Quarter leads, at least were in the thick of things.

Then they lost five straight games. Now two of those were to Cincinnati and Baltimore, who ended up 10-6 and 9-7, respectively. And while the Bungles faltered down the stretch and were their usual pretenders, the Ravens got stronger and actually whacked the Pats in the opening round of the playoffs. So these two losses? OK…they’re division games…they happen even to the best teams.

But here were the other teams they lost to, and their records at the time:

Kansas City 2-7
Oakland 3-8
Cleveland 1-11

The latter two losses came after Tomlin promised the Steelers would make the playoffs and “unleash hell” following the loss to the Ravens.
