Cam Sutton
With the emergence of Beanie Bishop and addition of Cam Sutton the secondary will be deep and talented after the bye. Question is assuming Donte Jackson is healthy where do you play Sutton Nov 10 against the Commanders??
Don't forget Cory Trice is back soon and he was doing well. It's a nice luxury to have. Cam can play a lot of different roles in the D. Slot, outside, safety. I think he'll obviously get snaps over Beanie.
But getting Highsmith back as well as Herbig, Trice, and Sutton soon is a huge win for the D.

Depends on how bad sutton has regressed since he was here. First thought would be going back to the 2020 platoon, sutton passing aituation nickel bishop in run situations.

Sutton looked real good in the preseason and got a big contract from the Lions for a reason.
Dude knows how to ball. It won't take him long to shake the rust off and there is absolutely no doubt he'll be a huge addition to the secondary.
Beanie was incredible yesterday but we have to remember he's a rookie and Dallas targeted him over and over in that game and it was tough sledding for the kid. Like all rookies, Beanie is going to spend a lot of time learning and I'll bet Sutton will be happy to take the kid under his wing.
Both Bishop and Sutton will get plenty of run and if Trice can return and (somehow....although it's unlikely) stay healthy then holy shit. Could be the deepest and most talented secondary of the Tomlin era.

It all sounds like a potential nice problem to have.
sutton was terrible for the lions last year. No where near the player he had been for us, and he’s only going to go downhill at this point. That said, they were hoping for him to be CB1, where we are hoping for a CB3. That’s a huge difference.K_C_ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 11:50 pmSutton looked real good in the preseason and got a big contract from the Lions for a reason.

Okay, Sutton might have been bad for the Lions last season. Maybe didn't in well with their defensive system, who knows? I do know he was easily our best corner his final year in Pittsburgh.Mick wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:34 pmsutton was terrible for the lions last year. Maybe that's why he decided to return after all his legal drama?
Sutton looked real good in the preseason and I expect he's going to play real well again for the Steelers when he's eligible but I don't believe that all of the sudden, Sutton forgot how to play DB right after signing a large free agent contract with the Lions.
He isn't a #1 type corner (we have that in JPJr) by any stretch of the imagination. Sutton's an excellent slot corner with the versatility to move around.
I think it won't take very long for all of us to be real happy Sutton is back in the black and gold.

Believe we just signed a CB from the Jags. Wonder if there was an injury?

Yes starting corner Donte Jackson but I don’t know how serious.
Shoulder injury he has been battling all season pretty muchStill Diesel wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:14 pmYes starting corner Donte Jackson but I don’t know how serious.
Think the plan is to rest him vs Giants, get the benefit of the bye week and then return
i’d rest him in practice and would avoid playing him in the first half sunday and at all if possible,Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:34 pmShoulder injury he has been battling all season pretty muchStill Diesel wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:14 pmYes starting corner Donte Jackson but I don’t know how serious.

But this is a must-win game, and if donte’s out we are one JPJ toe injury away from running all practice squad CBs against a fairly competent set of Giant WRs. I’ve seen that movie before and the ending stinks.

Yeah…I’d just let Beanie rip and ride. Sutton goes to back-up.Mick wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:34 pmsutton was terrible for the lions last year. Don’t want to turn into the Jets who just seem to sign 33 year olds as someone said on Bloomberg yesterday.
I don’t remember being upset when he left. He never filled the shoes of Hilton. Beanie seems to be more like Hilton and I don’t recall any safety/corner blitzes for him yet. Small sample size…I have even been impressed with his mistakes and penalties. He just always seems to be there. He will probably hit the wall too and we will need Sutton.

Add in Kazee and Dirty Red for special teams and possible rotational depth (Kazee) but how often do you want Elliot off the field? Pierre being FA grab recently has paid dividends as well on the back end of the D.franco32 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 9:37 pmDon't forget Cory Trice is back soon and he was doing well. I don't have the stats in front of me but I would be willing to place a large wager that Pittsburgh D has blitz the least in the NFL this year. Probably the least twists and stunts up front too.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 11:44 amYeah…I’d just let Beanie rip and ride. I keep hearing from the beat writers that they practice blitzes and exotic looks all the time in preseason and now but we never see them in games.

Even with Johnson's injury, the secondary remains pretty deep. Tomlin doesn't live in his fears but he'll bring Sutton back over a couple of games because he can. He's played there before and the system isn't foreign to him.Still Diesel wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 9:19 pmWith the emergence of Beanie Bishop and addition of Cam Sutton the secondary will be deep and talented after the bye.
