Commanders-Dolphins...curious coaching decisions

Post by jeemie » Sun Nov 16, 2025 5:35 pm

Tied 13-13, Dolphins choose to go for it on 4th and goal from the 2.

Not sure I would have done that but there was about 1:40 or so left, so with how easy it is to get into FG range after a kickoff, maybe not so bad. Although they had been stopped earlier in a similar spot, but still, why not give it a shot with that much time left?

However, a much worse decision was the Commanders reaching the Dolphins' 40 on a well designed pass play that gets out of bounds with about 40 or so seconds...and they call a run play and then let the clock tick down before running the next play. An incompletion follows and then another one, but if the Commanders had completed either of those plays, would have been tough to get the FG unit on in time.

Washington kicker's career long is 58 yards...why would you play for that length of FG?

Predictably the FG was missed so now it is OT.

And now Mariota picked off in OT.

If I recall correctly, Washington went for it on 4th down instead of kicking a very makeable FG. The score was 13 to 13 with about 6 minutes left in today 4th quarter.

I blame the loss on the coach that didn't want to take the lead. As it turns out they probably win 16-13.
Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS. :D :D :D

Both coaches fucked up badly and it looked like they were both trying to tank. DC did forego a FG to take a lead with about 5 mins to go and MIA turned around and decided to not kick a FG with like a minute to go. It was bad.

I don't like it if teams purposely want to lose. I understand the concept of potentially getting better players but that shouldn't be allowed.

The thing I like about the Steelers they always play to win. Even when the are getting clobbered they continue to compete.

I wonder how many Europeans actually attend those games as opposed to Americans who decide to travel to watch or US military stationed in Europe attending. I doubt that Madrid is a hotbed of NFL fandom.

One of the first games I went to was a 1982 Mirage Bowl in Yokahama Japan Wake Forest vs Clemson. Japanese didn't understand football in the early 80s but the event was a big deal and event.

huge crowd they gave one side of the stadium orange and white pom poms and the other side gold and black. They had people organize when to cheer it was pretty wild.
