Cut Archer tonight

Post by Legacy User » Tue Oct 21, 2014 1:34 am

I was literally laughing out loud as he sprinted across the width of the field on that KR...barely making it to the 16. Which incidentally is his KR average over 7 games. He brings zero value to the team. Cut him now.

Archer can be a weapon IF they use him properly. Isolate him one-on-one with a defender and get him in space.

You have to take Bell off the field to do that. Bell is as good in space and more versatile. Archer is a 5 play per game gimmick.

Would never want to take Bell off the field for Archer. Must be a way to get them both on the field at the same time. Maybe a slot WR like Lance Moore? We've invested a 3rd rounder in him; need to come up with some plays to get him in the open field.

Only teams completely loaded can throw the dice on that type of player in the 3rd.

Mind boggling dumb.
The Steelers are among the NFL’s worst teams in total offense (30th) and total defense (28th). Highest paid defense in the league by far. We are lucky to have Mike Tomlin.

Yup, Bell is faster, shiftier, stronger, a better receiver, everything.

Bell beats Archer at checkers too.

Archer even sucks on the hands team- did anyone notice him lunging for the ball and it rolling just out of reach. If he were even 5 foot 8 he would have had it.

Ok, I'm happy we won tonight, but I've been bashing on Archer for months now and sadly tonight didn't help shut me up.

Maybe not cut him but he shouldn't be getting a hat. Martavis gets Archer's hat the rest of the way.

No way Archer should get a hat over Bryant...

Haley wanted Archer, no doubt about it.

Haley doesn't know how to use Archer.

Archer is not a 3rd round player.

Don't let golfers make your third round pick.

Just remember who was drafted in the 3rd round and who was drafted in the 4th round.

If the draft order was reversed people would have understood getting Ben his big WR in the 3rd round, raw or polished, but Archer is/was a luxury pick for a team without such a luxury.

Forget where Archer was drafted or what our team needs. Archer is not a NFL RB, NFL WR, NFL KR or NFL PR. He's just not that good at football. Period.

Wasted 3rd round pick regardless of how he is used.

Archer = 3rd round pick.
Never will forget someone posting a picture a week later of Kelvin Benjamin sitting on a cart and Archer standing, both in uniform.

Benjamin was still about 6 inches taller sitting down, but we needed Shazier more than Benjamin so we took him and waited until round 4 to roll the dice on Bryant, who might not have been there after passing on him in the 3rd to take Archer.

Last time I saw Ricky Ricardo (FC's label) Colclough he was muffing a punt against the Bengals costing us a much needed win, after he had shown a tendancy for dropping punts a week earlier, I believe?

We didn't need Shazoom tonight running down Foster after a ten yard run. Not a fan at all.

I made this same comparison in last weeks game thread, his name was Ricardo chokely :)

Archer is worse

I've looked it up before. Coclough had a career KR average of around 25 yards. I don't Archer has even broken the 20 yet this year. Coclough could also play some CB. There really is no comparison.

I would be more useful to a NFL roster than Archer and I would be available for free.

I agree. I hated the pick. I wanted a play maker for Ben. Could have had Benjamin and Bryant. Two play makers + Brown + Bell, but hey, why give your QB weapons to get the most from him? Dude has only been to 3 SBs and won 2 SBs. Better to keep Ben from taking too many risks with talent to make those risks payoff -- then where would Haley's offense be?

I defended the pick at the time. I figured that although he wasn't a RB, they'd use him out of the slot and on gadget plays and he'd earn his keep. I figured that when he had a chance for KO returns he'd be a threat, although I figured he'd never be a punt returner.

What I didn't expect is that this guy is DUMB and a PUSSY. He seems to be incapable of running the ball forward.

I wouldn't cut him just yet, but he should be occupying the Martavis redshirt spot. Bryant looks a heck of a lot less confused than Archer, and I can't understand why they are cautious with rookies like McCullers, Tuitt and Martavis but they threw Archer to the wolves. The kind of failure he is experiencing is something he likely will never recover from.

Let Blount return kicks, he's good at it.

You can't hit on all your picks. But this one was doomed from the start.

Fire Colbert. Now.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but there was a play last night with Bell AND Blount on the field... Interesting.
