UFC 182: Jones vs Cormier

Post by Steelperch » Mon Dec 29, 2014 7:43 pm

One of the many reasons I'm pissed about the Steelers getting the Saturday 8:30 pm playoff spot is that this card is on at the same time. I'm sure the game will be over before the main event begins though.

For me this is the biggest fight in MMA history. Two guys essentially undefeated in 36 fights. Cormier to me would be a top 2 fighter if he stayed at heavyweight and Jones is the best pound for pound fighter on the planet. I can't figure out who I think will win, but this is going to be a great fight. Anyone else tuning in?

I think I will now after you sold it like that.

Was a big boxing then MMA fan in years past but the PPV prices have exceeded the quality of the product. Especially for boxing.

You can always DVR the MMA can't you and watch after the Steelers.
The Steelers are among the NFL’s worst teams in total offense (30th) and total defense (28th). Highest paid defense in the league by far. We are lucky to have Mike Tomlin.

I hear ya, Perch. I was groaning the moment they released the playoff schedule. I have buddies coming over chipping in for the PPV, and we're just gonna have it on a separate TV during the game. The Steelers/Ravens game will most likely be done by the time the co-main starts so I'm not worried. I haven't been this hyped for a fight since Weidman-Silva 2 and Silva-Sonnen 2.

I pirate all of the MMA fights for free off of the internet like a good American.

Seems that whenever I try that I get a crappy feed , it cuts out, grainy etc.

So I pay the $59.99 or whatever knowing I'm getting bent over.

At least I'll be able to watch one and record the other so there's that.

The bitter rivalry is 100% real, unlike the vast majority of UFC feuds. These 2 didn't even look at each other at weigh ins...which was somewhat anti-climatic but unique in a way. All that aside, tonight is a battle of essentially undefeated fighters in their prime for the number 1 pound for pound spot as well as the Light Heavyweight belt. The winner gets the glory. The loser leaves a broken man.

The wrestler in me doesn't like Cormier. Basically because of his undisciplined nature with weight control, especially during the 2008 Olympics where he couldn't get it right and defaulted out of the biggest tournament in his life. Piss poor in my opinion. I've met him twice at tournaments and he is a really cool guy and a lot of fun. But to default out of the Olympics because of weight and the body damage he caused is bad.

Weight cutting is obviously huge in wrestling and he could not do it right or take a disciplined approach to it. He picked the biggest event of his life and for the Country to prove it.

Sound advice. More should listen and do.

She's obviously roided up.

Put her in with one of the top 40 men in her weight class and I bet she loses 35+.

No doubt. But the same would be true of Lydia Ko in golf or Serena in tennis.

I dont like seeing women fight......

I'd rather see her in a judo competition than in MMA.....
