I suppose moms would say so...it's a phrase I heard that stuck with me that calls to mind the type of players we use to draft/sign...Ward, TP, Deebo, Clark, to an extent Heyward and Timmons...
Surprised to see Winston on the bust list and not Mariota.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I laugh my ass off at all the pro ready shit. This mutt is lost if the presnap read isn't there. He has depth perception problems because he throws high on a regular basis. Without Benjamin as a go to guy for high points and contested balls he managed multi interception games vs FLA, NCS, Okie State, and Louisville. On top of that he has no character. If he has the intellectual capacity and works hard he might be a less accurate Jay Cutler.
Mariota isn't a finished product...but tone of voice in huddle and snaps from under center pales in comparison to the complete lack of judgement Winston has demonstrated on and off the field. Mariota is flat out better now and if I'm a GM I at least know if he busts out it isn't going to be from lack of effort or stupidity.
Incredibly weak QB class.

Must agree. Mariota has the same problems, which OSU game planned showed, of the second read. They showed that if he has to go to the 2nd read he either throws high/inaccurate or he just runs. Is this coachable? Sure. But he is not a day 1 starter.
Going to the Jets is a better place than the Titans because he does not HAVE to start now. Either team is going to be lucky to win more games than they did last year.
When you see the writing on the wall, you are in the toilet. -- Fred Sanford
Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way saying that Jameis is the second coming of anybody, whether it's Jamarcus Russell or Jay Cutler. I think he's got consuderable differences from either. I'm just looking at what I saw of Mariota when a good college coach with a good college front seven (and a reltively weak, by usual Ohio State standards, secondary) managed to do to him in the National Championship game by taking away the pre-snap and disrupting down and distance, and I'm wondering what Bill Bellichick or Pete Carroll, or the front line being assembled in St. Louis, or even an average to good Dick LeBeau defense could do to this kid given a week to gameplan. I think they're about even in terms of NFL bust potential.
It is an incredibly weak QB class. Between FA and the draft, this year was a bad year to need an answer at the QB position.

I'm not sure of what to make of Mariota's knowledge of the QB position. I'll admit I didn't review film of either QB having seen them both many times and not wanting to spend much time with the position. My biggest question mark with Mariota is tight window throws as the UO O often schemed wide open receivers. I don't believe Mariota loses composure under pressure and I think the biggest improvement I've seen in his game this season was he scrambled to look down field rather then use his feet for yards. When you have a QB with the work ethic and what appears to be a chip on his shoulder to prove something as Mariota does I don't worry much about the intellectual part of the position...it really isn't beyond GED IQ.
Keep in mind that Mariota's "poor" game vs OSU was 300 plus, 2 TDs and one pick...then consider Winston threw 4 picks vs a poor FLA defense, 2 vs NCSU, and another 3 vs Louisville. Also...the only game Winston played vs a defense that wasn't overwhelmed by the talent of the FSU offensive players at virtually every position on the field was vs Oregon...and that was far worse then MM performance in the NCAANCg.
I'm not one that will state an opinion on readiness to play in the NFL...but there is no question in my mind who the better prospect is.

They're both closer to Geno Smith than Joe Flacco, and neither is a better prospect than Bert. I'm not sure Winston would be a first rounder in a less QB-starved year, and I'm more sure that Mariota wouldn't. Quick, name the last successful Free Shoe U NFL quarterback. Charlie Ward on the Knicks doesn't count, and Mariota is, at best midway between Akili Smith and Fouts, with the arrow pointing to Smith.
Bad year to need a QB.

I like Mariota more then I like Flacco. I could be wrong but I don't see him as lacking in arm talent as many do...I think he might be very, very good in a couple of years. It might take two years for him to acclimate to a pro style offense...but so much depends on where he lands. The move aspects of his game are similar to a young Bens...Tennesee or Philly is a better landing spot then NYC imo. And because Kelly denied desire to move up for him I suspect it's to drive his value down to minimize the cost of trading up.
