Thank you Landry Jones

Post by franco32 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 3:53 am

I think we can stop with the Laundry references for now. He isn't Aaron Rodgers, but it's nice to have a guy come in and produce like that. He threw the ball well and even when horseshit penalties got in the way, he still keep his cool and fired that nice slant to AB.

Thanks Landry. We'll need you again next week.

Good point. It will be amazing if he gets hot the next couple games and all of a sudden becomes the heir apparent. Gonna be a lot of crow eating around here, including me.

He's still Laundry to me. But he's close to losing that moniker.

my question...has he taken gradowski's job as back up no 2? or jury still out? gotta say he has been far better then expected..seems poised and capable.

He's going to have at least one more game to make his case...

He will be making his 2nd start with significantly more experience than his first start.

Haley needs to open up the offense for him more in the first half than he did vs Chiefs.

We all were pissed he didn't eat that sack and run the clock...and oddly enough he saved himself time to win it.

He's been really damn solid as a back-up. More impressed than I ever was with Batch or Leftwich...have to go back to Tomczak to find a guy who's been better.

Personally? Yeah, I'd make him the #2. Looking at all the QBs we've had back up Ben, this guy looks the most competent with this offense since Homestead Charlie.

It helps having this ridiculous talent around him.

He's either a good actor or a pretty damn cool customer. He never looks flustered. Obviously they saw something in him that kept him around. Hopefully he can take another step in his development next week. Need to keep him upright. I don't want to see any more of that other so called qb on the roster.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

He should've never been put in the position to take the sack, but I get your point

It's way too early to judge Landry Jones, imo. He has 2 good 4th quarters and one full game which was average. It would be good if he turns out to be a solid backup and maybe a successor.

Jones got a ton of experience at Oklahoma, starting for 4 years. It's true that many of those games were against weak competition, but many were against quality. He threw for 16000+ yards with 123 TDs and 52 picks. He had a rep for struggling with pressure.

At function in Dallas with many football minds from high school to highest level I heard how lucky Steelers were to have Jones while they were stuck with Weeden & Matt.

He's had plenty of time to learn the offense, and has a much better rapport with starters than...that other guy (should there be a TOG?) I didn't see him get flustered at all. I didn't see the whole game, but it seemed he played as well as BR for most of the 4th quarter. imo.

On a side note, the long bomb to Bryant : did anybody see PI on the guy not woodson? Looked like he had his hands all over him

I stopped calling him Laundry after he saved us against Pittsburgh West.

He's becoming a good football player. He'll never be great, but he's becoming good.

One thing though......he needs to remember he has Heath Miller as an option. I'm not sure I remember seeing Landry throw a single pass to a TE yet and that's sorta important.

I hope the golfer emphasizes this to Landry.

He has made amazing progress from the train wreck we first saw in his early preseason games. I never would have guessed he'd become a real NFL QB.

He absolutely has the backup job locked down for the rest of this year and next.

I hope he has 1 more win in him this year.

Just got back from P-town. Saturday ND-Pitt and the Steeler game yesterday. I got no voive but I can type :D 1 observation the Raiders fans really represented. The most rival fans I have seen at any Steeler home game (been to about 15).

Also nice to see the posters here giving a guy (LJ) respect and not saying he sucks he sucks cause its the mob mentality pitchforks and burning sticks with no substantive proof or evidence crowd. KC props for saying I was wrong. The guy is a BACKUP, so don't expect him to come in and have a QBR of 110 every game, if he could he would be a starter somewhere. The best QB in the league had 77 yards passing last week. He may struggle next week, probably will, will need the D to really step up but he has already won us 2 games in tough circumstances. Have to appreciate that.

Waiting to see comments from Geek, B2B, and Orange who still had their pitchforks and burning sticks out this past week. Whatcha got to say now? How do you guys like your crow, a l'orange???

Remember their colours are similar to ours I would say 15% Raider fans, which in P-Town is a lot??? Just a guess. One funny situation, Raider dude is drunk and every-time the Raiders do something, he gets up and takes a Terrible Towel and twirls it in Steelers fans faces. Has a real drunken douche face while doing it. Obnoxious. Once, twice third time a guy about 3 rows back of the Raider cunt gets up, Miller shirt on, bellows PUT THE TAWL DAWN, spit coming out like Cowers best day ever. Raider guy does a 180 and don't see him again all day. Laughed my ass off.

Let's not go overboard with what Jones did yesterday.

The offense scored 3 points with Jones.

Stinger,

Jones did not win the game for us. He did enough to help us get the final 3 points we needed.

And thats what we needed him to do. Get us 3 points. By the way we are first down at the 1/2 yard line. With more time its probably 7. If he stinks as so many here say, he would not have done that, in a CRUCIAL game at a CRUCIAL time. Some people (maybe not you Havoc) just won't give the guy his props. As an aside Tomlin was effusive in his praise of Jones yesterday. Did a great job, tough situation etc as opposed to the Cardinal game "he did what we expected him to do"

What is nice is having a backup that can throw the ball with some accuracy more than 10 yards - Vick, batch .... But he was allowed to throw because we had to. I suspect in a stargets role haley will once again shrink the playbook and play very very conservative

Either way, 3 or 7. The offense scored 35 with Ben.

Landry got it done on the final drive when our qb went down in a game we had to have. I give him credit for that. That was huge for our season.

Playing in relief is not equal to playing for 4 quarters. Let's hope he gets it done playing an entire game vs the Browns. I think he can.

I was not one of the people who wrote off Jones.

What else is Landry supposed to do? He had a key first down conversion in clutch time that would have one the game. However, the refs called a horseshit offensive pass interference when New England does worse than that about 15 times a game.

He then makes another clutch 3rd down throw to AB on the money and AB does the rest.

He still has a lot to prove, but we beat up on a 4th round pick as if we spent a 1st rounder on the guy. So much hostility and hatred for a guy that seems to be improving. If anyone needs criticism right now, it is the other Jones (Jarvis) who, other than being in the right place at the right time to fall on a fumble, did jack shit yesterday.

it is nice having a backup that can audible and who knows the offense.

The worst part about the refs in the game is that they were inconstant. They went from "Let them play" to "Call everything".

You know all respectable, people are more chill than the 70's I guess. I think many were exhausted, I know I was cause it was a roller coaster. Saw Franco (I was in the club seats!!), Saw Reggie McKenzie outside taking pictures with Raider fans. Not that big of a dude, maybe 6'1??

I know a few idiot Raiders fans who started liking them in the 90's when NWA was wearing their gear and thought it was cool. Most of them have never stepped foot in California.

This is the big thing for me. These games where he's been in, it LOOKS like he understands the offense and is on the same page.

I don't want him to be effin' fantastic (though that would be great), but to run the offense (albeit in a lower gear) like Ben does.

from what I could see, I think he may have been targeting Heath at the sticks and altered his throw at the last second to throw it into the ground when he saw Taylor Mays jump the route.

I'm hoping they smoke the Browns and Jones throw 4 TDs and over 300 yards. Then we never see him again as he is traded for a 1st and a 3rd in the off season.

Having a competent backup is paramount with Big Ben's style of play.
