I wasn't following game thread so I assume it was probably talked about there but thought it deserved its own thread 47,48,51! Didn't miss the chip shot or any extra points...well done young man!

What are the chances they actually allow a camp battle bw Bos and Suishy, the veteran? Love Suisham, but if the new kid keeps it up, you must have a camp competition next year. You have to.

I was impressed from the first kick outta this guy. Although the bar was set very low. Not Boswell's fault. Boswell has made an argument of "it's not a sure thing" Suisham even has a job to return to. JMO

Not going that far yet. Suisham has been absolute money. Camp battle royale is the way to go.

If he keeps kicking like this he's our kicker. Maybe they can find a sucker to trade an R5 for Suisham.

$1.7M in dead cap for Suisham. Another fucking brilliant contract negotiated against themselves.

Boswell > Suisham

I love having a kicker who kicks it out if the endzone. And who has the leg for a 60 yard FG.

Still too early with Boswell.

Suisham struggled mightily in 2011, cost us a game or two. "Money" isn't a term I'd use for almost any NFL kicker. Suisham is what he is - above average accuracy with a weak leg. At his contract price, no, he's not good value.

Kept us in game in which we were showing no threat on offense... a lot of pressure for a young kid. all he did was split the uprights from further and further. Impressive for sure

I think youth is not always a disadvantage for kickers. Kicking is simple, you practice one thing all year. He knows he's got the ability.

I bet he hear "cha-ching" every time it splits the uprights...well, I hope he doesn't LITERALLY hear that

FYI...he signed a 2-yr deal with PIT....gets $600k next year. Smart move. Probably wishing he had a 1-yr deal right now.

Other than Ben and Tuitt I'm not real worried about anyone that couldn't play or got injured today.

Suishy? If this kid kicks like this all year then the job is his.

Beachum Villy is a multi tour Ranger, he has steel balls and knows what it take to get the job done.
Pouncey , meh

If Jones delivers a big game next week then all of sudden we have a Montana\Young situation.

When he nailed that 51 yarder he won me over.

I was nervous as fuck when Tomlin sent him out to try it...but he had to send him out to try it...we weren't scoring any other way at the time.

I think it's WAY to early to declare it a Montana/Young situation if Landry Jones has a good game next week (if Ben doesn't play).

Jones proved today he can quarterback in the NFL...he's got a LONG way to go to reach Steve Young territory.

Is anyone seriously suggesting that?

Yeah, he proved he can play QB in the NFL. I'm still not convinced he can be an above average QB.

He was great in relief today. Sensational. But he came in against a defense that hadn't prepared for him and hadn't had to defend the pass all day.

About 20 NFL teams have strong leg kickers who can kick it out of the endzone and have at least a chance at a 64 yard record in a pinch.

It's just been so long since the Steelers had a strong leg kicker. Both Swisham and Reed struggled for touchbacks and had about 53 yard max.

I hope Zed was joking but you never know.

One lesson I finally hope is starting to come home to Mike Tomlin that Boswell, Jones, and maybe Villy are going to prove is you don't ALWAYS have to come down on the side of experience,

Sometimes it's better to go with raw talent and live with the consequences.

I am not going to pass final judgment yet. But Bozzy looks good. I hope that continues. And I'd love to see him good enough that we have a camp battle next year and/or he takes it straight up.

I am cheering for him both due to wanting a young long term kicking prospect and SBI. That being said, would love to see Suisham back next camp and let the best man win.

SBI. Period.

Hell of a start to an NFL career....47, 47, 48, and 51. 3 of those at Heinz today where 1 out of 3 from those distances might be average.

I said I wouldnt be on board until he hit a 47 yarder in the elements at Heinz. Who do I give my boarding pass for the Boswell bandwagon to? Kid hit a 51 yarder like he was supposed to do. Lot less ass pucker when its field goal time

The kid looked solid and sure and nailed that 51 pretty easy.

I was at the game. I'm not sure what they were saying on TV, but it was about 38 degrees with lots of wind, rain and hail. Felt like it was about 20 degrees. The weather was 10 times better during the playoff game last January. So yeah, he kicked damn well in shitty conditions.

I'm on the Boswell bandwagon. Kid's looked good so far.

In honor of giving our previous kickers nicknames and Boswell's 51 yarder yesterday, I propose calling him "Area 51". Hopefully anything within 51 yards or "Area 51" will be just about automatic for him. I could live with that. Obviously, there's the whole Roswell/Boswell connection...

Just my 2 cents.

For many years, I was programmed to think that a 51 yarder was impossible at Heinz field. And that kicking off into the back of the endzone was just a
"nice to have". Well, I can honestly say that so far, its nice to have both.

Thought of that too, RS, but it's been done and was trying for something new. Wasn't Haley calling Martavis "Alien" or something? That was another tie-in to Roswell for me.
