Mike Tomlin article in SI
I'm wondering if B2B wrote this article under the name Brian Lutz:

Pretty much hits all the points that have been brought up on this esteemed website.

For all the bitching I've done about Tomlin this year (and there was a ton). Last Saturday night was his best coaching performance by far in a long long time.
Clock management was excellent, his decision for 2 points was correct. And what I think is undervalued is getting his players to focus in a game with a TON of emotion and overall crazy atmosphere.

That's cute n all but a couple less mistakes and maybe Pit has a bye and is rested for a home game this week.
Or at least maybe we go to houston last week in a much less physical game and come out healthy.

Or maybe blue unicorns are more numerous than pink ones. Maybe maybe maybe....what if what if what if....
He got into the playoffs. He smartly led his team through a now infamously vicious game by having them play a disciplined and TOUGH brand of football...even when opposing players are going for their knees and spitting on their faces.
What team in the NFL is mentally tougher than these guys? Better maybe, but not tougher. That just doesn't materialize out of thin air.
That game required more coaching than an entire regular season.

Was also against Marvin Lewis and his band of self-destructing thug rats.
Marvin not exactly known for his playoff acumen.
I've been on and off the Tomlin wagon. Mostly off this year, prior years mostly on. This week, hell yah I was happy. Another performance like that, even if a loss, I won't be too critical in the offseason. But in this place you have to jerk a guy off when he does something you expect him to do. Good performance Tomlin, bravo. But he also dug this team a hole by losing to the Ravens twice. That's just what it is. Is there an argument against the facts that he lost 2 games to a crap ravens team and won a good playoff game against the bungs?
So easy on the unicorn nonsense. Abstract statements like "better" and "tougher" are more blue unicorn than the facts of which games were lost and which were won.

Most of those criticizing Tomlin and wanting another coach are some of the dumbest individuals I've ever read or heard. First, they have no clue what his contributions are and second, they are subject to a huge bias in evaluating him. All those wanting a new coach need to look at what has recently transpired in the hiring process for coaches. The field was full of a bunch of bums with the exception of maybe two coaches. Doug Pederson, really? Chip Kelly, seriously? Who the fuck is McAdoo? There was not one candidate better than Tomlin. So all the Tomlin haters, all of your applications have been accepted and you've been admitted to STFU. Please shut the fuck up!

Yeah, we beat a dalton less bengals team who fucked themselves over in the final minute of the game. Now we are proclaiming Mike Tomlin to be some great coaching prodigy? Was it jeemie who declared there was nothing negative about flopping into the playoffs? We win the SB and you can claim some Tomlin credit, aside from that, we all get FUCKED by another decade of Mike Tomlin. All because he finally won a playoff game. The worst coach in the NFL beats the broken down thug city Bengals and he gets a pass for another decade of mediocrity. What will football be like in 10 years? You see the direction it's going. Better find a new hobby. Professional football is dying, and the last few years we have if it will be with Mike Fucking Tomlin leading the helm.

Who the fuck was Mike Tomlin when he became the coach of our beloved Steelers? Some unknown defensive coordinator by many. Oh but wait, what else was there.......

He was unknown to dumbasses like you, but the Rooneys knew who they were hiring. He was highly sought after. He was more sought after than any of these bums you see now. Boy you're such a an idiot...all the way back to the stillers.com days.

Stand on topic, can you?
This is about Mike Tomlin, alright?
And he's better than the bums out there now. I like the logic of many of the fans on this website. Head coaches lose games all on their own. Simplification of outcomes....for morons.

This is about as moronic a characterization of Tomlin as someone stating he's 2nd in the league to Belichick.
Tomlin is, at a minimum, a top ten coach in this league. He has a shit ton of warts like most coaches. But, his overall product is a good one, his teams generally improve as seasons progress and his players run through walls for him.
Bitch all you want, but after this season, the only way Mike Tomlin isn't the Steelers coach for at least the next 5 years is if he quits or retires. Hell, maybe the next 10.

Why don't you just come out and say you believe he was hired because he was black? I would at least respect you more for having the guts to stand by your convictions.

Nice mic drop at the end of that one
I've grown to enjoy coach, as well the wry praise here, of his "exceedingly well-crafted line of bullshit." It must be admitted sometimes the man does wander into Don King meets Zig Ziglar type conversational territory.

I thought that was a fair article.
- One thing that was left out is that we play in the toughest division in all of football over the last decade and a half. .
When talking about Marvin Louis' acumen as a playoff winning coach, see bullet above.
When talking about Belichick and all their success see bullet above.
Brady and Manning have all these years of 12, 13, and/or more win seasons because they play(ed) in cakewalk divisions. They are good teams no doubt, but they are able to get those high win seasons so easily because they don't have to play the Ravens twice a year and Bengals twice a year.
Miami is another Browns, Buffalo hasn't done shit since Kelly, and the Jets since Namath.
Indianapolis' division is shit as well....Jags, Texans, and Titans and then the Broncos have the Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, but what have they done?
Oakland and Tennessee have 2 outlier appearance losses in the SB.
We have the Browns, who are shit, but the Ravens have a couple SBs and one of the all time great defenses. The Bengals have been in the Playoffs the last five years and have been on an upward trend for the past decade, with no signs anything will be changing.
Franchise QBs by Division since 2000:
AFC South - Manning and maybe Luck, but the same team. (McNair for a year or 2???)
AFC East - Brady
AFC West - Manning and Brees(If yes to Brees, then Dalton = Yes too)
AFC North - Roethlisberger, Flacco, Dalton, Palmer....Dalton might be a stretch, but if he turns in another year like 2015 he probably gets the nod, and see note about Brees.
When comparing coaches and records and playoffs and SBs it is not as easy as it sounds....tough to get an apples to apples, all things equal comparison. But I think the toughest division in football since 2000 is fair, when you talk about seeding and making the playoffs.

One less injury (Ben) and his mistakes don't matter and they probably get a bye anyway.

No, no, no.
The EPITOME of an imbecile is one that tries to appear intelligent by using a word but misspells the word in this age of google and spell check. Go back to your cave you moron.
And over 1700 posts? Get a life already.
Remember, the topic here is Mike Tomlin.

All very true but a team just plays the schedule. The exact same thing could be said for Cowher's Steelers. They feasted on a weak division for 10 years.

This is the only division since realignment to send three teams to the playoffs multiple times. In both of those years, the Pittsburgh Steelers were in that bracket.
I'd have to double-check, but next to Belichick's east I believe we're second or tied for second with most divisional super bowl appearances in the AFC.
There's no doubt in my mind this is the toughest division in football, that plays the most physical brand of football. The fact that Tomlin has never had a losing season in this division, is a very underrated accomplishment IMO.

Well, none yet. In fact none play in any division, because you can't actually crown them before they retire, as much as you might like to for the sake of argument.
Also, as much as you might like to hate on them Flacco and Dalton are very good if they are not on Ben's level.

And yes, this business of Tomlin being the worst coach in the league is absurd even for Naelae. He is undeniably a top 8 coach in this league.

"But the easiest rebuttal is Tomlin’s unassailable win-loss record: 98–56, including the playoffs, for a .636 winning percentage, with two Super Bowl appearances and one win. There are only two, maybe three coaches in NFL history who were better than Tomlin over their first nine seasons: Paul Brown and Vince Lombardi. (Bill Walsh won two Super Bowls in nine years but “only” managed a .610 winning percentage. He also added another Super Bowl in his 10th and final season.)"
This is pretty amazing stuff though on the face of it. The main difference is that Tomlin was handed a contending team. Lombardi and Walsh rebuilt teams that had been losers when they arrived. Brown's 1st 4 years where as the best team in an upstart rival league (AAFC).
