Game time: 7:05PM ET
Probable starters:
ARI: Shelby Miller (1-5, 6.64 ERA)
PIT: Francisco Liriano (3-3, 4.63 ERA)
The D-backs and Pirates open a three-game series on Tuesday night at PNC Park with Shelby Miller squaring off against Francisco Liriano.
If the three games these two teams played against each other earlier this year at Chase Field are any indication, runs should be plentiful. The Pirates won two of those three games by margins of 8-7 and 12-10, with the latter taking 13 innings to complete.
Miller is still searching for consistency on the mound after coming over to the D-backs in an offseason trade with the Braves. Last time out against the Yankees, he allowed three runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Liriano, meanwhile, deserved a better fate last Wednesday when he held the Braves to two runs in seven innings. The Pittsburgh offense, though, did not deliver in a 3-1 loss.
Four things to know about this game
• The D-backs are coming off their first series win in St. Louis since 2003.
• Liriano has gone 2-2 in his last four starts and has been charged with two earned runs or fewer in three of those four outings.
• D-backs closers have recorded 36 straight saves, the longest active streak in the Majors.
• Liriano got the start in the 12-10 Pittsburgh win earlier this year in Arizona and got a no-decision after allowing four runs in six innings. He has a 3.16 career ERA in five starts against the D-backs.
