Game time: 8:05PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Ryan Vogelsong (3-5, 4.87 ERA)
MIL: Chase Anderson (8-11, 4.47 ERA)
The Pirates, desperate for one last playoff push with just over one week remaining in the season, are sticking with experience on the mound as they look for a sweep of the Brewers on Thursday at Miller Park.
Pittsburgh enters Thursday 3 1/2 games back in the National League Wild Card race. The team's postseason odds are below 1 percent, according to Fangraphs.
Ryan Vogelsong will get the start for Pittsburgh and look to snap out of a difficult stretch. Over his last four starts, spanning 17 2/3 innings, Vogelsong has allowed 20 earned runs.
"We're probably banking on [Vogelsong's] experience," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "The rotation is very young right now."
Vogelsong will be opposed on the mound by Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson, who sports a 2.39 ERA over his last 10 starts. Anderson has faced the Pirates four times this season, going 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA.
Things to know about this game:
• With their wins in the first two games of the series, the Pirates have now won six straight games at Miller Park.
• Vogelsong has gone 5-0 with a 2.65 ERA over his last seven appearances (six starts) against the Crew.
• Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, out since Sept. 5 with back spasms, could return to the lineup on Thursday after completing a workout on Wednesday in Milwaukee.
