Our Lack of Pass Rushing is Flat Out Embarrasing
I've never seen a team struggle this mightily to rush the passer. Chickillo is the only guy who got close and it was because he only half blocked.
James has never been fast, but he doesn't even look quick anymore.
Jarvis is Jarvis.
Chickillo needs to start over Jarvis, he at least might have a future here in Pittsburgh.
Moats is just a another guy.
I really hope Bud Dupree can come back and make a difference because this defense needs one.

I said it before the draft. Edge rusher was our biggest need. Everyone kept saying corner. Look at this shit.
The OLBs are an abortion right now. Wentz had ALL DAY.

I agree and I'd say that our lack of talent at that position is critical.
What's the solution? I don't know.

On pace for what? 5 sacks the entire season.....
Unless they make a blockbuster trade, there is no solution.
Jones sucks, Moats sucks. Dupree sucks. Chickillo looks like a middle schooler playing his first game of varsity.

EDIT: GO SIGN DWIGHT FREENEY.
He proved last year he can still get to the QB.
OR, GO TRADE FOR SHAQUILL BARRETT IN DENVER.
That kid is a player who is there 4th best pass rusher.

No.
Actually he isn't, IC.

This team is one good pass rusher away from being elite.
Go get one and don't waste another year of Big Ben's career.

I cannot argue this point.
Whoever has recorded the game, watch Jervis with under a minute left.
Not sure which Eagles lineman it is, but HE DRIVES JERVIS BACK AND THEN FUCKING PANCAKES THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF HIM.
It's funny!

The guy hasn't posted on here in over a year and you're still trying to troll him. What the hell is wrong with you?

Cam Heyward and S Tuitt are off to a real slow start, combined for around 14 sacks last year.

Aw, you seem really upset.

How do you "troll" someone who doesn't actually post here anymore, you blithering fucking imbecile?

You tell me, you're the one still completely hung up on a guy who hasn't posted here in over a year.
It's incredibly old.

Remember, Heyward is probably still feeling lingering effects from the high ankle sprain he suffered in the preseason. Those type of injuries take time and rest and he hasn't gotten many.

I agree with this. The real turd here is KC.

I think it is just a fallacy to think that one player, one fantastic edge rusher makes the difference in the pass rush.
To me we need a holistic approach, we need to have more players step up and not just depend on one single player.
You look at Philly's 4-3 defense, they have 3 former 3-4 type OLBs in Graham, Barwin and Curry playing DE, two are 6'3" and Graham is 6'1", their weights are 250, 260 and 265.
A 4-3 defense is not that hard to assemble, and you don't need 6'5 or 6'6 270-280 pound DEs as Philly just proved in today's game.
Just for shits and giggles, what if the Steelers lined up for one game with Bud Dupree at LDE, Hargraves at LDT, Heyward at RDT and Tuitt at RDE in a 4-3 defense? What if they rotated in McCullers at DT? What if they rotated Ricardo Matthews and Anthony Chickillo and James Harrison in at DE?
What if they didn't waste time dropping them into fire zones or waste time with "exotic blitzes"? You have your front four, and you have them penetrate and get after the QB, all the time, nonstop.
Then you have your back 7 play coverage. I think that would be a winning defense and would produce sacks, and pressure and turnovers. We are stuck in no man's land right now, I think Tomlin/Butler want to make the switch to a 4-3 but are slow to pull the trigger. But you have to start sometime.

the problem with us running the 3-4 is the same as running the 4-3 ZERO starting caliber edge players. If James Harrison were the #3 guy, you'd be okay. Honestly, we need not 1, not 2, but 3 edge guys. Perhaps Dupree can be one. Where are the other two?
I mean, even if you start with Tryiq McCord and Rasco, it'd be a start.

And today was the exclamation point on a well known weakness that has gone undeveloped for several years. To bad it took an embarrassing shellacking like it did today. Drafting players in next season's draft isn't going to help much considering the time it takes to find their way on the field and actually contribute. Cynicism in me talking there. Hopefully they can manage to land some type of exceptional talent in the near future.

They haven't proven capable of drafting pass rushers of late. Sign one. Not TE's with headaches and ankle problems. Not slightly above average interior OL.

Jared Allen. Anyone. Chickillo needs more time he showed "something". At least he looked like he gave a fuck. Harrison still looks best but still couldn't quite get there.

38 years old you start to slow whether you want to realize it or not. I agree with you Miter Saw. There has to be an answer going forward. I hope they figure it out.

In the order of importance of offensive problems, I'd say TE is pretty far down the list

Granted he lacks the horses, but Joey porter hasn't developed a single pass rusher in his tenure as olb coach.
I too hope Bud Dupree eventually makes an impact but Shane Ray the kid I wanted who was picked right after Bud notched 3 sacks today against the Bengals. Gotta pick the right players.

Ray also has an outstanding cast of players around him. I believe that has a lot to do with the success or failure of any defense regardless of scheme.
