This is really a thread about Bell's patience at the line of scrimmage.

In interviews he said that his pause is mostly setting up the 2nd level, the linebackers. I've never seen a running back with so much patience that leads to So Much Success. Who am I to argue with Genius. Bell is a back who sees things like no back ever has. His patience often seems absurd but it WORKS 90% of the time. It's also notable that sometimes he just hits the hole without pause if he likes it.

The runner who Bell is most similar to is Franco Harris. But Bell is more like Franco 6.0. Too much time has passed for 2.0.

If you are quicker from a dead stop and quicker to change directions than your opponents, then use it to your advantage. Bell hesitating pretty much makes every defender hesitate as they wait to see where he's going to go. After the hesitation, he is quicker to the desired spot than they are. It makes perfect sense.

Different example: Ben has a relative advantage over defenses in chaotic situations, so it is probably better for him to create chaotic situations when standard tactics are not working.

Phil Simms in his infinite insight offered that this " pause technique" is unique and that more RBs, even at the college and high school level should try it......

Sure, Phil. It's the system, not the operator. What an idiot.......

Simms also can't figure out why more basketball players don't take off to dunk from behind the free throw line on fast breaks as it lessens the chance of being run down by shot blocking defenders. He saw Jordan do it once and thinks Curry should try it.....

I agree with Simms. Obviously, you have to have the raw talent to begin with, but it is definitely a teachable skill. Some definitely have better vision than others of course, but the vision and raw talent all has a portion of nurture and a portion of nature. It didn't take long to see people on the basketball court that looked like Jordan in the way they moved...not jumping from the free throw line, but dribbling, posture and trying to perfect the turn around jumper...Lebron is a byproduct. If the system is set up properly, and professional baseball, basketball, and football are all definitely set up properly to ensure the geniuses are put into the system and succeed...you will see the RBs standing on the shoulders of Bell, taking the position to the next level. Ironically, in another post we were comparing Bell to Sanders, and I have been persuaded that he is better than Sanders by the way....the ironic part is he is actually an anti-Sanders running back. Instead of the burst of scat to befuddle defenders, he does the complete opposite with the burst of pause.

More close to home, I would also argue that Rogers looks a hell of a lot like AB on the field too; that is no coincidence, he is practicing like AB and trying to emulate AB, and it shows on the field. He takes the same choppy steps in his cuts...having the same build helps too. Brown definitely has had a major influence on Rogers in many aspects of his WR game in this poster's opinion.

This....and Bell is so quick and explosive tacklers rarely hit him square. He usually makes the tackler hit him on one side of his body and immediately spins his body the opposite direction while pushing off with his shoulder/arm/hand, which allows him to, at a minimum, fall forward for 2-3 more yards. It's a thing of beauty.

If you watch any of his workout videos you will see exactly how this relates to his in game performance. Same with AB and some of the Pilates exercises he does. His "Immaculate Extension" (as well as his larger catch radius) is a direct correlation to those workouts.

That's the best explanation I've heard.
