And had a great block on bell's run
That kid played his ass off.
I have a feeling we're going to see him make some plays in the coming weeks.

I found myself pleasantly surprised. Ayers may be a player. I did however find myself impressed with Rogers. Rogers showed up Huge!

Yep he plays far quicker than his 40 time that is for sure.

Last little guy we had played way slower than his 40 time. This one looks like the reverse.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
What they need to do is make Ayers active and let him return kicks next week.

Nah I like having the worst kickoff return in the league. Just have to pray for touchbacks.

This draft class = huge. Davis made some mistakes but his pass break up in the end zone now looks game turning. Hargrave is getting better and better and Burns still raw but notice how often Flacco went deep? There is a reason for that.
Two things pissed me off about this game; 1) Giving Pita a free release, I warned about this a week or so ago and it allowed Rats to convert 3rd downs and 2nd and longs way the fuck to easy. 2) Not running AB on slants a ton more: Ravens cant cover anyone in middle of the field. I was also pissed PS didn't send Bell on slants/shallow crossing routes. The Rats are slow as fuck in the middle of the field.

Exciting to see a young player earn his way onto the roster and come up big in the biggest game of the season! We've been hearing that ayers has been impressive in practice for the past several weeks. The team desperately needed Hamilton, Rogers, and ayers to come up big and every single one did. Grimble too. And LT Walton. Incredible performance by the youngsters. Could not have done it without them.

Ayers was "the man" for his college team. They had other good players, but the offense more of less ran through QB Greg Ward and WR Ayers. He's used to making plays and he sure did tonight.

That interference call that Ayers drew changed all momentum in the game.
Just a massively important play.

He sold it with the lunge at the end. If he just tries to keep running or he gives up (Coates), maybe he doesn't get that call.

I hope he returns kicks

I hope he runs more routes in 4 WR sets. Having him and Rogers running slants/crossing routes in the middle of the field seems like a good avenue to explore.
I do not disagree.
The Steelers kick return game is becoming an issue.
Touissant and Hamilton...Ugly

Indeed that lost yardage in field position has likely taken points off the board and gifted teams better field position.
Toissant is the slowest KR i've seen in awhile.

That right sideline brings back memories
AB catching the deep pass in the playoffs against the Ravens against his head
And now Ayers getting that PI

Ayers would have likely had that TD catch on the DPI call.

Perhaps, but the official was going for the flag pretty quickly.

I hope nobody returns kicks. It is the easiest 25 yards ever. No penalties, no turnover, no injuries. Put the Kick Return in the lock box by taking a knee every fucking time and work on the remaining special teams plays.
As a matter of fact I'd devise a half-moon wedge to surround the ball on short kicks to watch and protect the ball until it rolls in the end zone to kneel.

Like Hesske said...looks like he's pulling Jackie Gleason in a rickshaw.
I was surprised that Ayers was in the game for as many snaps right from the outset. Can't wait to see the snap counts.

The past few weeks maybe because of the weather teams have not been kicking the ball into the EZ...Forcing the return
I hope Boswell studies film and figures out what flaw in his mechanics showed up that caused him to boot two kickoffs OOB.
On a positive note...two straight weeks now where his FGs and XPs were pretty much bang on down the middle.

I believe he's trying to kick the ball to the corner of the EZ so as not to setup a return. Seems like the wind might have gotten one of them. I say just try to put it out of the back of the EZ.

Ayers and Rogers are exciting to watch. Lot of ifs but there are clearly a bunch of quick twitch athletes on both sides of the ball.
Belichick has discussed forcing returns with high, directional kicks.
It's a guarantee that he'll have some tricks ready for the AFCC. Belichick has always been a master of winning those hidden special teams yards.
