Edge is the only place i’d put us top 5.
Maybe top 10 RB, S. Top 15 IDL. Bottom 10 CB room. Above average ILBs?
Offense gets ugly. Bottom 10 WR, Hopium starting at 3 positions on OL, middling TE room. I don’t see how hoping the QB play is middle of the pack makes that top 10.

Re: Colin Cowherd - “Steelers have a top 5 roster”
I don’t see a top 10 roster, but if tomlin doesn’t enter the season with an extension, i don’t see how another flop of a season gets one.

In the six seasons the Patriots won Superbowls, they finished 24th, 30th, 18th, 22nd, 25th, and 20th in Y/A rushing.

Re: Chark off the market
Fields got one last place MVP vote from exactly one of the 50 voters that year. I don’t see that as a persuasive point. We know what a difference say, TJ Watt makes for us being in the lineup for our W/L record. Where the Bears record is actually better when he’s out (7-8 without him, 10-28 with him...

Re: Chark off the market
Russell Wilson is 35, not 37. He still has zip on the ball and runs quite well for 35. His supposedly disappointing 2023 shits all over anything Fields has ever done. Play action is one of his strengths from my recollection. I agree he doesn't throw with anticipation or always involve his TE, but h...

Re: Chark off the market
And not to be overly negative about everything, but as much as chicago FO wants to say they were trying to do right by Fields, they could have let him go as a FA and potentially go where he wanted and, if you think people actually have hope for him, possibly get tons more money. But instead they opt...

Re: Chark off the market
You pointing out how terrible Ridder is only emphasizes the point. Ridder is terrible, but is also a better passer than Fields; he netted almost a full yard per dropback more than Fields last season (6.3 NY/A vs. 5.5 for Fields).

Re: Chark off the market
Pretty apparent that the people who are paid to be right about such matters think Fields’ OC was better in Chicago than it will be here. Getsy immediately landed four OC interviews before taking the best offer, Smith didn’t interview anywhere else. The perception around the league is that Getsy was ...

Optimistically, they want to take a look at players in rookie camp before deciding where to prioritize remaining cap to complete the roster. WR? CB?

Re: Chark off the market
Don’t get what? It would be great if Fields turned into something. But he got traded to us for, by trade value chart, 50 times less than we got for Pickett. 32 teams didn’t see value there. His receivers last year actually look better than what we have right now, and while in the long term spending ...

Re: Noteable stats
Is there some greater point here? These stats appear to have no correlation to success. The two Super Bowl teams were literally 1st and 32nd in % runs into a loaded box. And usage of 3 WR sets has Baltimore, Miami, and San Fran all in the bottom five. So we'll probably use less 3 WR sets this year....

If Aditi was a poster here, her track record would probably be dead last. Even worse than a few of the trolls, and that's saying something I feel like she posted something about Ben in his last couple of years that were completely wrong. Re: Pick 3.84 Michigan WR Roman Wilson
Yeah... 60 would probably be high. Right now, there's no one to replace DJ. Unless Austin suddenly takes a leap, the only way Roman doesn't catch 50+ is if he's not as good as advertised. Where else are those targets going to go? If Roman starts week 1 - and I don't know how he won't at this point ...

Re: Off-season theory - What if...
I did suspect that one of the reasons no legitimate OC candidate was willing to interview with us was that around the league expectation is that this staff is out the door in 12 months. Optimistically, also kind of hoping that same reason is why the top HC candidates this past hiring cycle decided t...

Re: Noteable stats
I don’t like that definition of loaded box; sure, 7 in the box against a 3 WR set is fairly loaded, but 7 jn the box against 2 or 3 TE or FB looks is a soft front. I’m sure SF ran against 7 in the box a lot, but they used heavy personnel more than other teams, so that doesn’t say much.

Re: No 5th Year for Harris
Najee is the Terrell Edmunds of runningbacks. He’s very useful, in the sense of every hit he takes and snap he spends running an irrelevant route or crashing into the line for his career 0.5 yards/carry below league average is less wear and tear on Warren, but his below average running and near wors...

Re: 2024 Hindsight Draft
I understand the premise of a hindsight draft but to me it doesn't make much sense. If you take a Brian Thomas JR at WR in round 1 (20), doesn't that make the whole complexion of the draft change moving after?? Do we really see Zach Frazier still there at 51? Or Roman Wilson at 84? Or Payton Wilson...

Re: Zay Jones just cut
I’d be okay with trading Moore if the price was right, but that’s certainly not a 6th rounder. Either way, trading a backup for a pick is a million times better than trading a starter like Diontae when you have no depth behind him and no way to replace him.

Re: Zay Jones just cut
Trying to find a favorable trade for a high end WR while keeping boyd/chark/jones guys as a fallback option (also, hoping for a higher end cut) seems like a reasonable plan. But from the outside, we have no idea whether that’s the plan or not. Maybe they are just waiting for pricetags on these FAs t...

Follow up... the breakdown of Steelers formation usage last year: Pittsburgh's defense was in its base package with four defensive backs on the field for 35.5% of its snaps, the highest percentage in the league. The Steelers were in their dime personnel with six defensive backs for 23.2% of their s...

Re: Pick 3b.98 Payton Wilson LB NC State
I've watched a lot of film on Payton. His straight line speed is tremendous. He's also got a high motor and is really smart. Where he struggles is a) change of direction on a dime and b) if a big guard locks on to him. His core strength is an issue. To be fair most LBs struggle when a guard locks o...

I still shocked at only 5 UDFA added they get $5000 signing bonuses each. How many do you want at that point? At least fill out the roster for rookie camp. Take advantage of the chance to look at more players in a practice situation in your facility. yeah, UDFA used to be a strong pipeline for us. ...

Re: Pick 1. 20 Troy Fautanu OL Washington
He's 23. Given COVID and all of that, I can live with someone turning 24 mid-season. There is another way to look at this. Not everyone he was facing was young. COVID created a lot of older players in college football and so that is a factor. Also, I don't mind an older player IF the extra year mak...

For the actual draft we followed this very closely, only McCormick in round 5 is not listed there. Makes me really wonder what our actual draft board truly looked like. Looking back, my hindsight draft last year was pretty boring. ‘Pretty much what the steelers did’. I’m okay with having taken Christian Barmore over Najee in 2021. 1.20 Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo 2.51 Patrick Paul, OT, Houston 3.84 Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon 3.98 Payton Wilson, LB, NC St 4.119 Maso...
