Donnie Kelly extended, Cherington back 2026

PPG reporting that Donnie Kelly has been extended as Buccos manager. Really happy for Donnie, he did a decent job managing a lineup that often featured at least 4 players below or at the Mendoza Line. He kept the team close to .500 until the semi-collapse in September. Tough to keep a group of men m...

Re: HOF nominations

Harrison damn sure should be a HOF’er Totally dominate for a nice stint. And pretty good the rest of the way Ward ……borderline but I would support him for a gold jacket. Made plenty of big plays in his career and has two rings Pouncey ???? Hell to the no DeCastro ??????? Fuck no. Not now or ever. T...

Re: Fuck You Haters!!

I wonder how many times over the past few years Swiss has made a post just like this in September/October? Probably every season at some point over the past 5-6 years. I'll gladly be bumping this topic in January when we're down 21-3 to the Bills and are being outgained 200 yards to 40. Prob goes b...

Paul Skenes most dominant Bucs starter ever

The most dominant Pirates player I have seen in decades and THE most dominant starter I have ever seen play for the Bucs. Finished his final appearance last night with a typical Skenes performance: 6 IP, 4 H 7 K 0 R. For the season, 1.97 ERA, .095 WHIP, 216 K, .199 BA against. Get some offense, Nutt...

Re: Remembering the great L. C. Greenwood on his birthday

Happy Heavenly 79th Birthday to the great L. C. Greenwood who was born this day in Canton, Mississippi, in 1946. He was born in Canton, Mississippi, but he belongs in Canton, Ohio. I will beat this drum until he gets there or I'm in my grave, whichever comes first. He is the most egregious omission...

Re: Our guy Aaron Rodgers

Stosh, Steelers have only lost once when I was in attendance––and that took Earl Campbell having the greatest night a RB even had against the Steel Curtain defense. I've seen half of the game on rewind (the Jets stadium crew played so few replays after the 1st Q it was maddening) and Broderick Jone...

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

We originally traded Priester to Bosox for Nick Yorke. Yorke hasn't really panned out yet at major league level, while Priester is having a very nice year after being traded from Bosox to Brewers. Another trade that pisses me off. Even when they seem capable of detecting pitching talent, they still ...

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

Donnie Kelly is 49-50 since taking over, 22-19 since the All Star break. Give him a couple legit hitters and I believe he leads this team at least to the playoffs. We have quality starting pitching, with depth and more prospects on the way. Just need to be able to score more runs. Too bad Konnor Gri...

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

The trades that this joker of a GM made are absolutely ridiculous. Bednar should have got us a major league bat. No question. Word is they had a better package on the table but it would have increased payroll rather than cut it. Then we go ahead and trade one of Cherington's best acquisitions in Bai...

Here's the play, by the way.

Stick around for Parker's, Garner's and Tekulve's commentary right after.

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

Don't look now, but the Pirates may be gearing up for their annual midsummer tease... They can't really tease us because even if they play a little over. 500 ball the rest of the way, they will still likely fall short of an overall .500 record. Which is I think this team's ceiling. They are going n...

Re: RIP The Cobra

A sad day. Dave Parker was one of my all-time favorites. Always hustled down the first base line. A cannon for an arm. Could do it all. I used to have a foul ball hit by the Cobra on my shelf, but I went to college and my little brother borrowed it for a neighborhood game and it was lost. Forgot al...

Still remember him stumbling but making the catch to end the orioles 8th inning threat in game 7 of '79 series. I remember gunning down Jim Rice at 3rd and Al Downing at the plate in the 1979 All Star Game. I recall all of those plays. The near stumble in the 8th inning made my heart stick in my th...

Re: RIP The Cobra

So sad to hear this news today. Parker was a key cog to that 1979 World Series team. At least he got to hear the news before passing even though he didn't get his chance to be honored at the HOF ceremony. I was concerned when I saw his interview after the HOF announcement, he did not appear to be in...

Congratulations to Cutch for his 240th HR in a Buccos uniform which ties him with the Great Roberto Clemente at 3rd on Buccos all time HR list! Way to go, Cutch!

Also I'm fricking loving Donny Kelly! He has the guys playing much better baseball.

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

2 more tough losses with great starts by Skenes and Keller. Doesn't seem to matter, and never will if you go 0 for 13 with RISP. Reynolds is in one of the worst slumps he's ever been in. He's slipped below the Mendoza line and seems to only get hits at in the early innings, rarely when we need it mo...

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

To answer Jeemie's query, the Bucs appear to be skipping the teasing part this season and just dove straight into the crashing and burning. Great post, Jack. I agree with all of it 100%. My order of favorite Buccos managers is: Chuck Tanner, Danny Murtaugh (he's the greatest of my lifetime), Jimmy Leyland, and Clint Hurdle. Hurdle made a huge difference in transforming the losing culture. Miss him. Sorry I've been having some health pro...

So it is almost May. when does everybody predict that the annual tease will begin, where the Pirates will suddenly string together a bunch of wins and make it look like they could actually compete for a playoff spot? And the buccos bricks fiasco What a disaster https://x.com/kdka/status/1909731883593638155?s=42 I think, to me, this was the most heart breaking incident to have occurred. Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

So nice to watch a pretty clean looking Paul Skenes outing, having gone 7 strong with 1 unearned run. The rest of the team got some timely hitting, some ouch defense at times (that collision in the outfield looked bush league), but enough solid bullpen work to hold down the victory. Raise it! Let's ...

Re: Lets Go Bucs 2025!

Harrington didn't look very good. I'm starting to seriously wonder how good some of these young arms really are in our farm system. Whenever they try one out, they typically fail hard, aside from slam dunk Skenes, and surprisingly Jones. It is certainly starting out very poorly. We may be buried by ...

Skenes pitched well. No offense, only 4 hits Bullpen stinks. Can't blow a 4-1 lead. Yep. We've seen this episode before. Skenes pitches well, can't score enough runs, bullpen collapses. They had several opportunities to add on to their total and it would have made the difference, but failed each ti...

Russell was my Uncle Bill's favorite Steeler in the 70s. He waxes to this day. Another totally underrated dude. Was one of a handful of pre-Noll survivors. He was great to listen to as a narrator on the NFL films accounts of 70s Steelers. My fave was the game in Philly where Mean Joe took the ball,...
