OT: Another Raven gets arrested
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11209 ... ly-conduct
Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct late Saturday night after an alleged incident at suburban Baltimore bar.
Smith is the fifth Ravens player arrested this offseason.
Jimmy Smith became the fifth Ravens player to be arrested this offseason.
According to The Baltimore Sun, police said Smith was helping an intoxicated woman in the bathroom of a Towson, Maryland bar when she because nauseated. After medics arrived, officers repeatedly asked Smith to step aside and he allegedly refused to comply, saying several times that he was helping the woman.
Smith became argumentative when they asked him to step into the hallway, according to police. Police said Smith was cooperative with officers after being arrested.
A first-round pick by the Ravens in 2011, Smith was released from custody at about 11:15 p.m. ET after being issued a citation. A court date has yet to be scheduled. The woman was transported to a local hospital, according to police.
Smith, 25, is considered one of the top young cornerbacks in the game. The Ravens exercised a fifth-year option on Smith this offseason, which keeps him under contract with the Ravens in 2015 for over $6.5 million. The team is looking to sign Smith to an extension.
This is the first arrest for Smith in his NFL career, although he had off-the-field issues at Colorado which caused him to slide to No. 27 overall in the draft three years ago.
Smith's arrest continues a troublesome offseason for the Ravens. Other players arrested in the past five months include: running back Ray Rice (felony aggravated assault, accepted into pretrial diversion program), offensive lineman Jah Reid (misdemeanor battery, accepted into pretrial diversion program), wide receiver Deonte Thompson (felony possession of marijuana, charges dropped) and rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro (misdemeanor destruction of property, drunk and disorderly, July 31 court date).
The Ravens' veteran players report to training camp on July 23.

Something stinks here...he was "assisting" a unconscious woman in the bathroom? Why would he refuse to step aside once paramedics arrived? Perhaps he was worried they might see something...or find something? I hope Mr. Smith read the article I posted earlier this week and saved some money for bail.

Damn, 5 Ratbirds arrested this offseason? Guess without Ray Ray's leadership they don't know how to get away with crimes anymore.
Also, is anything going to happen to Ray Rice? I figured cold-cocking your wife into another dimension would constitute "damaging the shield" as well as, you know, a crime.

Before the latest site crash I had a sig bet with another poster that Ray Rice would not receive a suspension from the NFL (although he could receive punishment from the Ravens). It's yet to be seen if I'l win that bet, but the more times passes the more confident I get.

By relieving her of any illegal substance she may have had in her possession.

If she had already OD'd he wouldn't be able to do anything. What was he going to do? Suck the coke out of her veins?
No way a NFL player takes the fall for some chick...

What I'm speculating (if this rumor is even true) is that perhaps she had something he felt would incriminate him so he was trying to make himself out to be a Good Samaritan also covertly helping himself.

He could of been the one that supplied the coke. Then again, he may of been truly trying to help her out. Just like the Pouncey's incident, going to have to wait for the details to come out.
It could be a "non-story" or he might be in some serious shit.

I know the owner of the place pretty well so I'll ask him the next time I'm there. It's a few miles from my house.
what was the name of the bar? I missed that.
Balt PD wants new Ravens team photo front and side shots.

Don't get me wrong, I hate everything Ravens....I won't even let my wife wear anything purple. But is it crazy to guess that maybe he WAS being a good dude, that thought he was going too get laid by the chick?
7 pages of speculation in another thread, it's a Raven so we go guilty until proven innocent yet again.

It's certainly possible Van. I don't dismiss the humanity aspect in a scenario like this. I do suspect a state of panic set in and Smith took whatever actions he felt the situation required. As a result it cost him his freedom for a time and so far another hit on the rat's rep. I think it would be nice for a change if this unfolds how your suggested scenario plays out.

Is Jimmy Smith really "considered one of the top young cornerbacks in the game," ESPN?

The Greene Turtle in Towson.
Most Greene Turtle's in MD have turned into ghetto dumps when the clock strikes 9pm. Beware.
