I wouldn't fret over PS too much, it will change 20 times by the time its all said and done.
I done wish they would've held onto DaJuan Harris RB from a year or two ago

Absolutely nothing surprising with that list. The only slight surprise from cuts and the PS is that they didn't sign an outside player to the roster aside from Webb.

Surprising to me Mauro cleared waivers. Glad they were able to keep him. As IC stated this list will change throughout the season.
Other surprising thing to me is they only have one OL prospect for PS. I kinda expected to see two guys there.

I think that is due to them keeping 9 offensive lineman on the 53.

You are right but with all the injuries so common over the last few years I think it would be prudent to have a couple on the practice squad just in case. But like has been discussed the list will change over the season so bring on the stains Sep. 7th

I would not be surprised to see a veteran added after week one, and Hubbard moved to the practice squad. Somehow they save money that way. A different swing tackle would make me happier than Adams in that role. I don't think Mike is a LT in the NFL.

I would think we add a second CB since we really have noone for next season hopefully Mauro or Williams vcan replace Thomas also.

After week one the salary isn't guaranteed. I think we may see one. We'll see.
LT, OLB, or another CB would be fine by me.

Agreed. I think that's a very prudent and good business minded approach considering the injury past.

Can not agree more 58. Thomas is a stop gap at best and could find himself replaced easily if an injury occurred or if he just under performs.
Don't understand the hate for Cam Thomas. He played well this preseason, better than I was expecting. For 330 pounds, he was mobile and I saw him play with hustle while learning a new DE position in a different 3-4. He is a notch or two above the Al Woods/Nick Eason type that we always have on the team.
Mauro and Nick Williams hopefully will develop and replace Brett Kiesel's roster spot when he is finally cut for good next offseason. I have loved the Beard and his contributions over the years but I fear he will disappoint this year. How many games will he miss? 4 games last season, 5 and 6 games he has missed in recent years.
The thing about the practice squad is that 99% of these players never amount to anything and yet we fret and do such hand wringing over it each and every year. I mean, yeah, James Harrison was on a practice squad at one point, but if you think about how many players go on a practice squad in a given year, how teams are constantly changing the players on it, the odds are still astronomical. 10 players a team, 32 teams, 320 players for week one. But by the end of the season the squads change and you may see as many as 500-600 players spend time on the PS. And how many of those players will finally make it to the active roster, become a starter, then become a Pro Bowler, All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year like James Harrison? These players probably have better odds in buying a lottery ticket.

Really hard for me to gripe about this particular list... In particular I like Villanueva, Mauro, Williams and Jones. I realize there could be a lot of change, but those guys seem like they could play someday.

I am sorry but have to believe that one of the reason for the beard return was because of the play of Cam.Cam i believe is more mold of a NT not a DE. I still remember this guy getting Benched last year.
When I looked back at San Diego last season and investigated them "benching" Cam Thomas and going with Sean Lissemore, I didn't see any negatives in Thomas' play. It seemed like their DC just wanted to get more of a pass rush and felt that taking the 330 pound Thomas out and putting in the quicker 285 pound Lissemore would result in more of a pass rush.
What I saw was no exceptional production in Lissemore. In fact it was Cam, still getting playing time as part of a rotation here and there who was outperforming Lissemore. I think Lissemore had all of 6 tackles in the time that they benched Cam, while Cam had 12 tackles and 1 sack, 3 tackles and 1 sack came from those two playoff games. So, they benched Cam as a starter but there they were giving up more yards rushing, 143 against Kansas City, 113 against Cincy, 133 against Denver, etc.
Look Cam Thomas is not to be confused with Casey Hampton but I give the guy some credit. San Diego was ranked 6th against the run in 2012 and they were 12th against the run in 2013 and in that time Cam played in 32 games and started 13 games. San Diego also had a young defense, as there were some 7 or 8 players in their 1st or 2nd years thrust into the starting lineup. If you count the two playoff games along with 2012-2013 regular season, Thomas had 50 tackles, 37 solo tackles, 2 passes defensed, 1 interception and 1sack. So, we sign the guy to a relatively cheap contract and I am glad to have him. If McLendon got hurt I am not so sure that we would miss anything if Thomas became the starter to be perfectly honest. It may be blasphemous to some, but he may be better than Steve as a more traditional NT.
