Anyone else going to the Draft?

Post by Almighty Slacker. » Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:55 pm

Hey there everyone, long time lurker on the site. I'm in Detroit for the draft tonight and tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone else from this esteemed site was going to be here. I'd love to meet up have a beer with someone, put a face to the alias. Anyway, I'm super pumped to be here, can't wait till tomorrow night.

Sadly, no. I was planning to go since it's relatively close to me this year and I could pick up my football crazed nephew on the way.
I hope you have a great time! and that is Keisel level beard..congrats on that!

Shellwagnerblount, thanks for the comment on the beard... I often get Kiesel comments when wearing Steelers swag, and believe it or not a month ago I had about 5 inches taken off.

What was it that stopped you from coming out this year? It's crazy here, so many roads blocked off and fans from everywhere. I'm so amped up right now, can't wait till 8pm tomorrow. Should be fun checking out all the NFL experience stuff tomorrow as well.

Our hotel restaurant was "bought out" tonight, and we were curious who did it. Turns out that the NFLPA did, and is having a function in there. I just came back from a convenience store and saw Mel Blount in there, big tall dude with a suit and cowboy hat... can't be 100% sure as his back was to me, but I asked the security officer and he said he thought it was Mel.

Have a fucking blast, rep the Black n Gold well, be safe and post lotsa pictures, comments and experiences. And quit lurking. It's a fan forum, participation makes it go & grow.

All lurkers need to sign on and give the best Steeler forum going, the participation it deserves, your participation.

Look at the draft coverage on here. That alone deserves some kudos, comments & praise. Let alone B2B and all the exceptional, long time & knowledgeable posters on here. Almost rude, in my opinion, not to add value.

This place fucking dominates!

Thanks, we are already having a blast just walking around and seeing all the set-up. Downtown Detoit is crazy right now and much of it is blocked off and there are I think 4 different official areas to be in (3 for sure). We are hoping to go a little early and get a spot near the main stage.

I would occasionally post in the past, but then my ex left me to raise 3 young kids on my own and all my efforts went to that the past 12 years. Kids are older and leaving the home now, so I'm starting to get back to following the league and especially the draft more. I'm very appreciative of the folks on here and original Stillers.com site (many posters have come and gone) and all their knowledge. I always trusted the insights on here over any national media coverage of the team that I could get. I just never felt I had a lot to offer as I never played football (mother wouldn't sign the waivers as a friend she had in high-school broke his neck playing) and back in the day before the internet took off it was hard to get information on Pittsburgh sports in Canada...

Again, just throwing it out there, I'd love to meet up if your here, even if it's for 5 minutes. I feel like many of you are almost friends even though never meeting, after reading comments, the amazingly good analysis, opinions, the bickering back and forth, and comradery on this fourm for over the last 20 years or so... even STD if he's gonna come out of the basement, and that's saying a lot cause I don't like trolls, figuratively and literally...

That little rant wasn't just for you slacker, but you just happened to open the door. Lol!

Maybe not many fury members there. But be sure to plan the trip to the 2026/27 Pittsburgh draft, if awarded. Hopefully a full on Fury tailgate will come about. If all goes well, I'll be retired back home by then and see ya there.

And remember, without lotsa pics, it didn't happen. 😬✌️

Please do your best to boo the shit out of Goodell. If you hurl something at him I'll throw in some $ for bail.

Wife's health problems, alas. But she is getting better...
Blount is an imposing figure! I met him briefly once and he STILL looked liked Mel Blount of the 70`s. I heard him and his brother were super competitive at everything and that helped to build him into the corner he was.
My beard game ..is pathetic~ LOL..I'm in my old age and still can't grow one worth a comment other than.."when you going to shave that mess?" :)

Shellwagnerblount, all the best to you, your wife & family.

Slacker, now that's what I'm talking about. Some great pics. It's like we are there, being able to see the fun your having. Way to represent the team too by the way. Love the bling!

Grab some Detroit style pizza while you're down there. I might head down Saturday to check it out.

Thanks...I'm sure many others know what it's like when your partner is seriously ailing...but modern medicine is amazing.

I like the first round pick..!

I'm only an hour away from Detroit but I heard there were like 200k people there. While it'd be a unique experience, I don't like dealing with all that nonsense (get off my lawn)

Glad you're having an awesome time!

Quite the spectacle there last night.

Florio said police estimated 400k which is insane.

Here in Atlanta, we'd be lucky to draw 1k.

I got pretty lucky last night. After the Steelers picked, I got pulled out of the crowd to go up in the fan pod right in front of the stage. I spent the last 11 picks of the draft about 10 feet from Goodell. Colleen Wolfe is about 10 times hotter in person then she is on TV. What an absolute Smoke-show. 12 hours of standing and partying, I’m pretty wrecked today. Looking forward to watching rounds two and three laying on my couch tonight.

Unfortunately my buddy and I were locked out of the draft for the picks... around 3pm we decided to go back to the hotel, 2 blocks away, grab a bite to eat and head back. Restaurant wasn't taking reservations till 5pm, so we finished around 6, got our warmer weather gear on. As we were getting in the elevator got a notification from the NFL One Pass app that they were at capacity and would not be letting anyone else in for the night.

We were pissed and super bummed out so we tried to hit all the entrances, looked for any chinks in the armor of the fencing, almost hopped the fences with some other guys we saw, tried sweet talking the staff entrance guards, all to no avail. Even as thousands were leaving they wouldnt let anyone else back in and Cops were everywhere...

At every entrance we saw multiple 10's of thousands of pissed fans. They never indicated once that they might do that, and they had a ginormous outdoor area barakaded off, never heard of over capacity at such a huge outdoor area... anyway, the official count was 275K fans there, but that was just the NFL stage area. I guarantee that there was at least another 150-200k people trying to get in.

Glad you had an amazing experience Charles Demarr, we still had a great day there, but can't pretend the night wasn't a bust for us.

Sorry to hear that! You'd think they would at least inform you of the changes etc... "its all about the fans" . Until it isn't, I guess!

Charles Demarr, we all know you have some draft & "on the down low" Colleen pics. Understand your wore out today. But, we will be waiting for the pics.

Got to hook us, less fortunate that couldn't make it, up?

Being totally honest, just trying to get a good grasp on draft experience, to decide if it's worth the hassle to go, in the event it's in Pittsburgh in 26/27.
