Calling all Yinzers

Post by smithessmokin » Wed Mar 26, 2025 1:34 am

My fellow brethren who reside in the great city of Pittsburgh, aka Yinzers...

I will be making the trip to Pittsburgh for the 2026 NFL Draft. It will be the first time I've been back to Pittsburgh since 2009. I'm sure a lot has changed since then haha.

I come to you for your suggestions, advice, etc. on the best places to stay and dine...especially on the places NOT to stay. My initial plan is to use the Tuesday of draft week to travel, Wednesday to go around the city and hit up the popular spots (strip district, original Primanti's Bros, the incline, etc.), then Thursday/Friday be chill before the festivities start in the evening, then probably traveling again on Saturday. I do remember a restaurant on the incline that I would like to revisit, think its the Grandview Saloon. What's the best pizza spot relative to where we are staying? Might want to hit up Jerome Bettis' restaurant again...you get the picture.

Like I said, I need your feedback to maximize our trip! Keep in mind, hoping to have 6 people in the party and while we're not strictly on a budget, we're not trying to spend a ton of money. Several of the guys going make good money, the others don't so somewhere in between is probably where we need to stay. Not trying to price anyone out of a fun time; and at the same time I don't won't to hear them bitching about prices haha.

You asked about pizza...again, worlds best is Vincent's pizza park, Ardmore boulevard, north Braddock

Can't beat Monterey Bay for excellent seafood and a view of the skyline and stadiums.

Dancing Gnome Brewing has terrific beers and usually a great food truck.

Late April is a little early to jump in the water, but Ohiopyle is some great hiking.

For a Devonshire (true Pittsburgh delicacy, and beats Primanti's by a good bit) and a brew at a sweet local spot, Union Grill in Oakland is hard to beat.

Off the beaten path for some of these spots, but all well worth it.

You could spend a day barhopping and eating in the strip and end up stuffed and hammered. Grab a fish sandwich and chowder at Wholey's, and a atomic pepperoni roll at Sunseri's for the walk.

You got your dives and you got restaurants and craft beer.

They turned that big warehouse on the river into shops and stuff, haven't been through there.

If you want to drink more and cheap, plenty of dives over on the South Side, off East Carson.

I looked for a hotel room yesterday and everywhere says “sold out”.

Airbnb may be a good alternative.

My dad and I are driving in from NE OH. All hotels were booked the day it was announced. We managed to snag an Airbnb about a 10 minute walk from the North Shore. I imagine you'll be spending a pretty penny for an Airbnb at this point. It might be worth looking at something a little closer to the airport and Ubering in.

Definitely going the AirBnb or Vrbo route. Is staying close to the stadium a good idea? Think I've read that the majority of the draft will be happening around and maybe in Acrisure.

We are driving from Indianapolis, likely stopping in Columbus to pick up a friend on the way.

Was going to be my suggestion. Great food and view.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 88 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Oddly enough for a seafood place, gotta get the garlic bread there, too. It's awesome, and what I pattern my home version off of.

Stayed at a cool place in the North Side a few years ago, Mexican War Streets area. It's walking distance to Heinz and that area.

If you can get into the Hyatt Place, I would stay there. Maybe sold out.

I'm actually staying at an Airbnb there for the draft. It's run by a chef.

That might be the same place. We went to the same grade school, he’s a few years older.
