Sounds like Watt is being shopped
ESPN reporting teams are making offers. I bet TJ is good as gone. Thanks for the good years, TJ.

Hopefully these Dummies get multiple high round picks. They should be talking to Packers and Lions and get a bidding war going. Neither team would want TJ on the other team. Imagine TJ paired with Hutchinson. Packers would hate for that to happen and would overpay for Watt.

Steelers, I'm sensing are optimistic they can reach a deal with Watt eventually," Fowler said. "My sense is that he will probably be the highest-paid pass-rusher in the league when this is all said and done. He wants to be a Steeler for life, the Steelers want that, he's a legacy-type player. They believe at 30 years old he still has several good years left. They're just gonna have to come up with a number and a good guarantee structure."
I keep saying, without a QB to pay the Steelers can effectively trade some of their cap for draft picks by absorbing a large piece of Watt's contract via SB.
But I don't expect them to trade him before the season. That runs counter to NHALS, and recent moves where they clearly think they can make the playoffs and, well, that's a lottery ticket!
This is the problem with Tomlin remaining as HC. A new HC likely would have said "I don't have the players for what I want to do, and I don't have a QB....I need to get younger and accumulate some draft picks"

I don’t think there’s any way they trade him away, unless they truly can’t come close to making a deal.
Which is unfortunate. As much as I love TJ, I’d be head over heels if we ended up dealing him for some higher draft picks.
Replacing him with Herbig would be a downgrade, but one that would be well worth the cap savings in the short term, especially if we combine the picks we get in return with our current picks to get a QB next season.

The Steelers should be playing for 2027 so trading Watt would make sense. But, almost every other move they've made this off season seems like "win now mode".
This team is a mess.

Trading Watt doesn’t match the teams strategy to acquire a bunch of highly paid, over the hill defenders on a team that should be in full rebuild mode. They will just overpay him instead.

He's been the best player on the Steelers roster basically since he arrived.

This. The team is going all in this year. There is no way they are moving Watt…0.0% chance. This is all contract negotiation fluff. Expect a new deal for Watt by training camp or maybe a day or two into it. I also expect a move for a vet WR. Parenthetically, I think they should’ve embraced a rebuild a while ago but they sure as hell don’t see it that way. NHALS is safely assured…Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:08 pmTrading Watt doesn’t match the teams strategy to acquire a bunch of highly paid, over the hill defenders on a team that should be in full rebuild mode. Exactly. It’s like they are having second thoughts on going all in to be pretenders.

I don't doubt they are in win now mode and that the NHALS is all Mike Tomlin has, but who starts at free safety with Fitzpatrick gone?Steel Ubaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:43 pmThis. That's a pretty gaping hole even though they definitely are loaded at corner.
The Watt thing.....I think the Steelers are waiting for a team to literally make them an offer they can't refuse.
Tomlin might be a moron, but Omar Kahn isn't a moron. If some team offers them 2 first rounders for TJ, the Steelers WILL move him.
Problem is, I don't think anybody is offering them 2 first rounders for Watt but maybe they're waiting to see how desperate a contender like Detroit, Green Bay or Washington get.
I don't think Watt will be traded but I sure as fuck didn't think Minkah was going to get dealt either.

They'll platoon guys at the spot. Maybe even look to move Ramsey there in their base packages. They'll move Ramsey around based on circumstance. I'm sure that's how Tomlin is selling this bullshit.K_C_ wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 11:04 pmI don't doubt they are in win now mode and that the NHALS is all Mike Tomlin has, but who starts at free safety with Fitzpatrick gone?Steel Ubaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:43 pmThis. If Watt gets traded for a haul. Two 1sts or some asinine boatload of high picks, a 1st, two #2’s etc, I’d likely tear a shoulder attempting a cartwheel.

Saying Watt choked away the Steeler's chance for a title is like saying Archie Manning choked away the 70s Saints' chances.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 81 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Not quite. TJ and Cam were both on the field for the loss against Jacksonville and took part in that defensive collapse. That 2017 team was a real contender. They both did essentially nothing against backups in the 2020 game against the Browns too. TJ has been one of the Steelers all time best regular season stat machines, but he has only ever really had one good playoff game (Chiefs in 2021). Watt has been on some teams with bad offenses, but it wasn't always that way.Dan Smith--BYU wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 2:46 amSaying Watt choked away the Steeler's chance for a title is like saying Archie Manning choked away the 70s Saints' chances.

Herm Tomlin thinks he's got the 2015 Broncos type season in his future.Steel Ubaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:43 pmThis. The team is going all in this year. Watt will be expensive.
Not only will the Team trading for Watt have to sign him to a massive contract they’ll be expected to cough up premium draft picks.
The scuttlebutt across the grapevine is,…. has to be a 1st RND’er and either a 2nd OR 3rd RND’er depending on the Team’s draft position.
I’m guessing Watt is extended [at great cost] and retires a Steeler.
He’s a delusional fuck.R_S wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 1:47 amHerm Tomlin thinks he's got the 2015 Broncos type season in his future.Steel Ubaldo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:43 pmThis. I was at a 0% chance Watt gets traded.
I feel like there is a small chance now he gets dealt. Although very small the Steelers media machine is out in full force. I do believe they’re just pushing a narrative to get Watt to fold and tell his agent to end negotiations and get it done so he can stay. Similar to the last negotiations.
I also keep thinking about how poor this team’s post season success has been and wonder if Watt himself wants to go to a true contender. Not impossible.
It’s also not impossible for a team to offer a deal they can’t refuse and ship him out of town. (Not sure if T.J. has a no trade clause) If offered a 1st and a 3rd as mentioned above, I would NOT take that.
I still think it’s a small chance he’s traded but not impossible. I would be shocked more than I was with Minkah being dealt.
