Looks like Derrik Harmon might be ok

A reporter then asked Tomlin if there was any concern that the injury could be more serious for Harmon, and the head coach doubled down on the injury only being a knee sprain. This is good news overall as there was no structural damage done, and the rookie should be back on the football field soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IljnmCF-f5k

Congrats on having him miss 2 weeks or so of practice.
Awesome news!
That is wonderful news!!!
Black and Harmon are BOTH going to be fucking monsters in a year.

While I don’t disagree with you, there’s something about Harmon that makes me uneasy. I question whether he is a real dog.
I know it’s preseason and level of competition and such… but we can only go by what we see. What I see is Black outperforming the #1 pick. I see Black being dominant. His movement and some technique just look so easy and natural, never mind how strong he looks. He looks like he’s having a blast as well. Harmon already has the reputation for not being able to finish from college. Maybe he’s thinking too much.
But I agree that the DL future looks bright.

Now they are saying he will miss a month.
Possibly start the year on IR.

Black is playing schlubs. I would really like to see him higher in the pecking order. He’s proven everything he needs to prove vs those guys.db wrote: ↑Fri Aug 22, 2025 9:46 pmWhile I don’t disagree with you, there’s something about Harmon that makes me uneasy. I question whether he is a real dog.

Harmon needs to have a bit more bite
Agree. He has looked like Scrub McStuffins to me thus far.
Haven’t noticed him at all. Great if you play oline. Not so great if you play dline.
Time will tell.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Realistically, out until the bye week. One month would be coming back to practice the short week before Ireland. Knowing them, they are unlikely tot rush him back early in the season when NHALS is not yet on the line.

Harmon is a penetrating d-lineman and I’ve seen him win battles upfront numerous times in the preseason and he has a sack. Dude is still acclimating to a whole new ballgame but he sure hasn’t looked out of place to me. He’s also playing with the 1’s
most of the time while Black, as @bradshaw2ben correctly stated, has inexplicably been playing with dudes that will be grocery baggers, Home Depot workers and Subway sandwich makers after today.
Harmon will be just fine.

Looks like Harmon is now week to week. So could be back as early as week 2 of regular season.
Being “fine” and being a 1st round stud are two different things.Harmon is a penetrating d-lineman and I’ve seen him win battles upfront numerous times in the preseason
Harmon will be fine
And let’s not forget your excitement and giddiness over Pickett’s “HOF” caliber preseason where he followed that up by laying a major egg.
I’m not hating on Harmon or bashing him. Just saying for it being preseason where the opposing offense isn’t going all out he’s been pedestrian.

Weird, I don't remember Cam Heyward being completely dominant his first preseason? In fact, Cam had 11 tackles and 1 sack as a rookie.955876 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 10:03 pmBeing “fine” and being a 1st round stud are two different things.Harmon is a penetrating d-lineman and I’ve seen him win battles upfront numerous times in the preseason

Holy shit, fuck that guy! He can't play!!!
Troy Polamalu started a whopping 0 games as a rookie. No picks, 4 passes defended.
I'm sure glad the Steelers didn't give up on that guy.
Oh and as for Kenny Pickett, his competition that first preseason for the starting job was Mitch Trubisky. Kenny should have won the starting job in camp. Might have helped him to figure his shit out quicker. Sure couldn't have hurt.
I'll say it again but I think Mike Tomlin ruined Pickett. He likely would never have been a high level starter but Pickett had a natural instinct to improvise. Despite not having a big arm, Pickett was a good improvisor and Tomlin took that away. Neutered Pickett who actually wasn't too bad his rookie season. He was terrible his sophomore season but when Matt Canada is your offensive coordinator you entire Steelers career except for a total of 6 quarters, the dude was doomed to fail.
...and he did and now PIckett isn't even a serviceable QB.
Let's start calling Derrick Harmon "Kenny Pickett Jr.!!" How bout it!!!

What you don’t realize is that you create things to argue about.
I’ve not bashed Harmon nor said he sucked. Was joking a bit when I said he looked liked Scrub McStuffins and did also say time will tell.
Does it hurt you to admit he has been a bit pedestrian and hasn’t stood out? Are you his mommy?
Has he flashed where you’ve been like wow that was impressive?
If you are being honest you’d agree that he hasn’t. That’s all I’ve said.
There is nothing for you to defend here but keep trying.
And it isn’t a lie when I said you were foolishly giddy as fuck over Pickett lighting it up in the preseason against grocery baggers playing in a vanilla scheme. A long time habit of yours.
And while I agree Jibbs did him no favors, he’s now buried on the depth chart on his third team. If he was worth a damn the coaches on Philly’s staff would have figured it out.
He sucks. Plain and simple.
Now feel free to continue getting your panties in a bunch because I’ve said the guy hasn’t stood out.
Boo hoo.

I’ll say it again: Pickett was promising his rookie year. You may disagree. Fine by me but Pickett was a far more timid player his sophomore season. Why? It was clear Pickett was told in no uncertain terms to play it safe. Not to take risks and any balls he had were removed by Tomlin and Canada. His final play as a Steeler, inside the 5 yard line vs Arizona summed up the neutering Pickett experienced at the hands of Tomlin and Canada. CAIIII open to his left for a TD but nope, Kenny wasn’t taking that risk. Gonna try and run it in himself. Almost made it but didn’t and he got a well deserved fucked up ankle in the process.
Pickett never got over the neutering he received in Pittsburgh just like David Carr never got over the pummeling his offensive line allowed him to take for years in Houston. In the right system, Carr could have been a star. I also often wonder if Ben Roethlisberger would have become the Hall of Fame QB he turned into had Mike Tomlin drafted him. I assure you, Ben would have had a far more difficult road to superstardom as a young QB with the shit OC’s Mike Tomlin has had in place pretty much since he arrived. Ben would have likely overcome Tomlin’s stupidity and shined, but that’s no guarantee.

This team sucks
Ownership sucks
Front office sucks
Coaching sucks
The players suck
If the players have any inclination to be great give them a year or two tops. After that they will know what Pittsburgh is about and accept their fate of a career sucking

) , their offensive line, not having a quality mentor at the QB position (it doesn’t get any better than Mitch Trubisky) and yes, Pickett probably didn’t have what it takes to be a quality starting NFL QB but Jesus Christ was the deck stacked against him.

We have recent proof of Jibb's neutering a QB, an accomplished QB in Russell Wilson.
Remember the first game last season vs Cincy? Wilson setting one of his best passing performances of his career? However, that pissed off Arthur Smith, a Tomlin stooge, and Russell was not the same QB after that game. Be assured, RW received a stern talking to following that game, about running the called play from Smith, not checking out of plays.
No, I do not think Ben would've become the HOF QB he did, had Tomlin been his HC from the beginning. Actually, I think Tomlin would've made him pedestrian and maybe with the Ol-lines Tomlin has deployed over the years, Ben would've been often injured.

I think Ben's natural talent would have led him to succeed despite Tomlin. But starting out with worthless yes men like Fichtner and Canada as OC wouldn't have been ideal. Worst case is that Ben might have had a Carson Wentz career trajectory, though I think Ben would have thrived had he gone to another team.Stillchest wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 1:15 pmI completely, agree with you, KC.K_C_ wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 2:07 pmPlayers can be ruined by the system they’re in, the coaching they receive (Matt Canada and Mike Tomlin?955876 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 3:22 amWhat you don’t realize is that you create things to argue about.

Wouldn't be a Steelers first round draft choice if he didn't miss significant time by injury in his rookie season.

I get that Jibbs will live in his fears with a young QB, but why do so with Wilson? Especially after he had such a great game.
Shows how stubborn Jibba Jabber is. My way or no way.
Hopefully this comes to a head with AR.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
