Nah
Rodgers doesn't operate like that.
He'll do exactly what he did this past offseason. Ponder life (drag his feet) and keep the organization in limbo.
So long as Tomlin (and NHALS) are here, Rodgers or another veteran QB is the only way to go.
Like most of you, I don't want Tomlin anywhere near another rookie QB.

Read another article to immediately sign Flacco in the offseason. Will help Tomlin’s record by not having to keep losing to the former Blue Hen!Dan Smith--BYU wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 8:15 amDude is keeping up his end of the deal and more. Not seeing any easy draft fixes or otherwise if he leaves.

Rodgers or not this team isn't sniffing a SB in the next 5 years (unless Tomlin is fired, which will never happen). So there's no point trying to keep Rodgers with big bucks.

I think there's a long way to go before off-season decisions can be made. So many possibilities. If they make a postseason run, then bring the band back as much as possible. But other than that pretty unlikely event, the choices are all going to be in the range of unpalatable.

Winning A playoff game would be a start. How many years since that's happened?
More likely, IF they don't make a postseason run and IF Rodger can still play, he's going to want to go to a better team.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 12:52 pmI think there's a long way to go before off-season decisions can be made. Or maybe he's happy to add to his career numbers while going 9-8. I don't know, but I feel like if you're putting your body through that you want to compete for a ring, especially if you aren't making big bucks.

That's what is depressing me..We have a dark future ahead. Even with Tomlin retiring/being fired/traded! (O still my beating heart!) someone would have to come in and do a Chuck Noll level job on this non contender. And we'd need a new Rooney on top of that..more transition time.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 12:52 pmI think there's a long way to go before off-season decisions can be made. I get why he may be hesitant, I don't get why the Steelers would be.

I remember last year late November people on this board were not only talking about giving Russ Wilson a 3 year deal, but were saying it should be similar to Baker Mayfield’s $100 million deal with the Bucs.

Wilson really isn't that bad. There's a bit of reverse Rosenthal effect (look it up) started by Peyton that makes it easy for coaches to shit on him now.
In fact, it's arguable that Wilson '24 was the fourth or fifth best QB the Steelers ever had.

Why can't they sign Joe Flacco.

Payton has an unhealthy disdain for Russ, but doesn't change the fact he's no longer good at football.
And while it's true the Steelers don't exactly have a strong history at the quarterback position outside of the obvious Bradshaw, Ben and I suppose Bobby Layne, Russ' whopping 6 wins (Zero playoff wins) hardly make him anything close to top 4-5 best the Steelers ever had.
Hell even Mark Malone, Bubby, Tommy Maddox, and Mike freaking Tomczak have won playoff games for the Steelers.

Hold on, those guys had multiple shots at playoff wins because they were with the team more than a year.
Wilson had a good game against the Cowboys this year and a pretty great game against the Bengals last year.
Imagine if Wilson had thrown that Dart pick that lost the game for the Giants Sunday.
Dart is getting a rookie pass on that throw Wilson would have been crucified for.
He's not SOO bad. He's not Wilson 2020 but he's not complete garbage either.

Opinions vary
The Steelers, NY Giants, and Sean Payton share the opinion that Russ is cooked
To expound
Steelers were right to sign Russ at a bargain price
To say he performed like a top 4-5 Steelers QB is in my opinion an “over evaluation”
Doesn’t make Dan a “hysterical woman” to think otherwise
Just makes him wrong

Oh, I mean "3rd best QB in Steelers history" is a fun debate. Including their time not with the Steelers, NOD and Kordell are pretty close to the same level of player, just got it done in different ways. Both guys were winners who were maybe one or one and a half levels level shy of winning a championship.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:45 pmWas going for the more obscurebradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:41 pmKordell Stewart and his playoff win over the "most dominant defense in history" coming off winning the Super Bowl feels unappreciated by this post.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 11:01 am

Bobby Layne is before my time, but he did go 27-19 for a Steelers team who's mediocrity in that late 50s early 60s era was the high point of the franchise to that point.
I mean, if we're going by "best QB for the Steelers at any time during their Steelers' career, my list (YMMV) in no order is:
Ben
Bradshaw
Gilliam
Layne
NOD
Kordell
Rodgers
Maddox

I actually liked Kordell. He made bonehead plays in the AFCCG (he did get them there). If Cowher & Co would have not tried to make him "pocket passer". I remember that MNF game against the Stains. The Stains were complaining that it was not Fair that the Steelers were using him in that Slash role.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:45 pmWas going for the more obscurebradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:41 pmKordell Stewart and his playoff win over the "most dominant defense in history" coming off winning the Super Bowl feels unappreciated by this post.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 11:01 am

He really has some crazy plays while playing QB full time. He'd easily be the 1st QB taken in this day and age.
Obliteration Is Imminent
Russell Wilson as a QB is pretty much done, but I don't quite get the absurd level of hate that Payton has for him. It's personal for him and nothing Wilson has done at least publicly seems to justify it. None of us really knows what went on behind closed doors.
The shot he took at Wilson seems gratiuitus and petty. Payton got what he wanted, he has a promising young QB and a young team that is on the rise. Just let it go.

Kordell lacked the number one requirement: accuracy. His underthrows to open receivers was maddening.
Wilson had touch even last year.

I will say, if they WANT Rodgers back next year, then they better extend him before he gets a look at Tomlin's playoff gameplan
Russ is a bit of a dork, but Peyton is a world class fuckstick. I actively root for that dude to lose ( unless a win helps the Steelers.)CKSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 3:44 pmRussell Wilson as a QB is pretty much done, but I don't quite get the absurd level of hate that Payton has for him. Best Option: let Rodgers walk, gut the roster of high priced veterans, suck ass in 2026 and rebuild the right way with a new coach in 2027. Hopefully win a playoff game by 2030.
Second best option: get 9+ wins this year, bring back Rodgers cheap and add even more over the hill free agents next year. Win 9+ again and Tomlin sets the NFL All Time NHALS record and retires a successful and fulfilled coach reaching his childhood NHALS goals.

I explained that Kordell was not only ahead of his time, that he was Lamar before Lamar - but once Cowher decided to eff with his mechanics- it screwed him up bad.
He went from being serviceably accurate to - couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. He started aiming his passes, instead of letting them go. At that point you could see he lost all confidence in his ability - and that was that.
Kordell actually jumped in and gave me a thumbs up. lol
Let me make a minor adjustment here:Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 10:20 pmBest Option: let Rodgers walk, gut the roster of high priced veterans, suck ass in 2026 and rebuild the right way with a new coach in 2027. Hopefully win a playoff game by 2030.
