Tomlin didn't even have to do that. He just had to stay out of the way and let Lebeau, Arians and Ben cook. He was more of an assistant coach - coach, not Ass. HC - during that on-the-job training.
More Tomlin Criticism
Re: More Tomlin Criticism
That is a bit untrue re Sully. He obviously stepped into a team that had immense talent. But he also brought up with him some good kids from WBS (e.g., Rust) AND trusted the kids to play even through some mistakes.Deebo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 11:55 amAnd both walked into ideal situations that didn't require much outside of bringing a new/voice energy.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 8:12 pmThey basically had the same reputation. Both had won championships and were very highly regarded by the media and the league at large. Both were consistent winners, although not contenders for many years. Both were convinced about their system, their way of doing things, their guys. Both were antiquated, stuck in old ideas.
Once that wore off, it was apparent to everyone that the Empower had no clothes
In contrast, Sully overtime came to distrust kids and play over the hill shitty vets (e.g., Nieto)

too much hockey here

The Pens are exciting again after about 5 years of fuckery with Sullivan. It's nice to be interested in them. I know this is an unsustainable start, but these guys actually bring effort and intensity, even if the talent level isn't there. That's all I care about - putting in an honest effort.DumlinBumlinStumlin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 6:07 pmtoo much hockey here

Probably only a few guys on the Steelers that I can say that about and that makes me hate this team

Same here for Philly. Toc is getting them to play and play smart.Deebo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 6:56 pmThe Pens are exciting again after about 5 years of fuckery with Sullivan. So they have bad players for the system, but they make up for it by telegraphing what they're doing.
Have I got that right?

who in the steelers actually vetted Coach Ts bona fides when they researched him? He seems to really not do anything, and the team is basically directionless without a vet QB to run things like a middle manager.
Would Wiz or Grimm have been a better choice at the time, if you will?
There are levels of fuckedness to this team.

In retrospect, not sure the Rooneys cast a wide enough net.

It's not hard to imagine Tomlin interviewing well.
And I think Deuce was probably tripping over himself thinking he found another Cowher. That Tomlin may have been a bit too green or not ready didn't matter, because the roster and coaching staffs were so stacked Tomlin had several years of on-the-job apprenticeship.

It’s funny it was florio who pushed for Tomlin before he took the Steelers job. Childress was being looked at for firing to keep jibbs in Minnesota.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 3:52 pmIt's not hard to imagine Tomlin interviewing well.

I suspect Tomlin is one of those guys who will coach well into their 70s
The Rooneys are NEVER gonna get rid of him either
He does EXACTLY what they want him to
Eternally keep the heat off of them for their malfeasance and indifference
And
Yuck it up in the media just enough that all the Charlie Brown fans eternally believe THIS is the year they are finally gonna kick that football

Rooting for losses since 2025

The depths of the most incredible cynicism arrives at how this team is constructed.
Someone said the team supports 100 Rooneys, probably SDT. I believe that, nice SDT, and how that impacts the decisions they make.
Dan built it over many years so that it could do that.

"We, as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,"
And this team could still support those 100 Rooney’s even if they ran a modern offense and actually schemed the defense rather than relying on extraordinary individual effort.
This team is lazy. From top to bottom. Super evident and n that dipshit Rooney saying fans should be happy because they used to be good.
Fuck off with that bullshit.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

“Things of that nature”.
Fuck you, TJ, you Tomlin simp. You’ll never win a playoff game here. Here’s to hoping you have to wait a good long time before you get your ticket to Canton. Between you, sCam and Mediocre Mike, I cant think of 3 less deserving clowns to get in.
If any of these 3 get in before LC Greenwood, they should shut down that place.

i would think that after the hold outs - clips out there of the team defense captains mailing it in on a few plays can't sit well. all while seeing cam, mike and tj repeat the same mindless BS after games.
i remain skeptical but it is possible that this veteran re-tooling was one last chance for tomlin to put the blame on execution as opposed to his Plan and lack of leadership and development.
I’d trade them both right now.
They threw tantrums about their calue, and more power to them, get the money.
But then jog around on the field, and doing a stupid ass sack dance while the team is falling apart.
Just not a good look. I notice they team up JJ Watt with his brother. Maybe that't a request from Steelers PR.
Gotta keep a positive spin on everything.
He gets assigned low to mid tier games. Which is what Pittsburgh plays in now.
Apparently, Tomlin's superpower is placating stars.CoolShades wrote: ↑Sun Nov 02, 2025 5:02 amI especially like the quote from tWatt in the 3rd paragraph.

I was disappointed Ben didn't push himself harder or challenge Tomlin, publicly. It's even worse with TJ. But WHO wouldn't want to play for Tomlin? Turns out, guys who want to win championships.
Yep, #1 fan of 7 here. He got even fatter and lazier than his HC. Might have been the GOAT with a real HC instead of the fraud.

Sad.

He was getting by on his natural talent. Needed to get into better shape and become and even bigger student of the game.
Being in an offense that challenged him more might have helped too.
