Looking forward to seeing what the team can do this year with Rodgers running McCarthy’s offense. They should be better than last year and equally entertaining.

Now watch this chickenshit franchise give Howard away because they are terrified of having to throw him out there instead of Mediocre Mason.

Rodgers gets hurt at the beginning of the season, one of the young guys takes over and has an 18 year run?

At least there's an offensive HC now that will hopefully get them out of the stone age. Maybe the defense won't be calling out our plays anymore. If it has to be Rodgers, this is a much better situation than last year for him and us as fans. Now, does he have anything left in the tank. That's the big question.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Good. I hoped he did. I thought it would be good for Will to sit another year behind AR. Then, they drafted Drew. Will may not get a shot but I hope he does. I also root for Drew to develop behind AR. I really hope they trade or outright dump Rudolph the JAG. They won’t, and likelier they dump Will which will be dumb as shit.

To be expected. Not surprised. Not a fan. Business as usual.
Rodgers and the Steelers agreed to a one-year deal, according to ESPN and NFL Network reports Saturday.

The contract is worth up to $25 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who said the deal still needed to be finalized and signed. Schefter said his base salary was between $22 million and $23 million with “up to a few million” in incentives.

I guess the amount doesn't matter much since we're probably done bringing new guys in at this point anyways, but $25M for a 42 year old mediocre QB is gross.

Interested to see what he can do with a familiar, offensive minded coach and a couple of new weapons. Concern is still the OL.

Will be as interesting to see the changes in defensive scheme and hopefully ADAPTATION.

With McCarthy coming in to replace Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers has the chance to recapture some of his early-career magic. During his 11-year run as the Packers‘ starter under McCarthy (2008-2018), Rodgers won the first two MVP awards of his career and earned seven Pro Bowl nods. In that same span, the Packers made the playoffs eight consecutive times, won five NFC North titles, appeared in three NFC Championship games, and brought home Super Bowl XLV.
That's some serious unicorn farting there.

The NFL has a QB problem that they don't seem to know how to solve.

Not enough good ones coming out of college that can play at this level.

^^^^^^
This

And the NFL not being able to develop college quarterbacks is hardly a recent problem

Your site administrator goes by the name of B2B meaning Bradshaw to Ben.

Just look at the scary list of quarterbacks Steelers' fans endured spanning more than two decades post Bradshaw:

Cliff Stoudt
Mark Malone
David Woodley
Scott Campbell
Bubby Brister
Steve Bono
Todd Blackledge
Neil O’Toole
Jim Miller
Mike Tomczak
Kordell Stewart
Kent Graham
Tommy Maddox

Then

By some miracle, with the Steelers SITTING ON THEIR FUCKING HANDS, landed Ben Roethlisberger.

I mean the Jags and Browns two QB starved organizations passed on Ben for someone named Reggie Williams and a serial rapist.

Holy luck of the Irish

I mean

Cowher reportedly wanted a fat guard from Arkansas over Ben.

Anyway

I now officially HATE Kevin Colbert

Talk about a horseshoe up your ass.

Dude only had a job because he was a North Catholic grad.

First round grade? On Mason Fucking Rudolph???

Kenny Pickett??? That’s who you picked as your parting gift to the franchise that should’ve cut bait with you THE SECOND Bill Cowher retired.

Ozzie Newsome left the Ravens Lamar Jackson.

We got Terrel Edmunds? Damn VA area code

Talk about piss poor LAZY scouting

Now we’re staring down the barrel of Ben to????

Mitch Trubisky?
Kenny Pickett??
Rudolph???
Justin Fields????
Russ Wilson?
R-O-D-G-E-R-S???????????

OMG that list is getting eerily scary

So K-H-A-N (He’s not a hot dog) hasn’t faired much better

Hell no 42 year old Aaron Rodgers isn’t any kind of answer to our post Ben QB debacle.

But what would y’all have them do?

Kyler Murray?
Tua??
Flacco???

Draft the fragile crier, Jaxson Dart?

Sam Darnold might’ve been a good get last year, but who knew he’d end up a Super Bowl winner?

I share the sentiment to just play a scrub like Will Howard and hopefully land a top ten draft pick, but we know all too well Rooney don’t operate like that.

NHALS (hate that acronym) is STILL the objective.

Rodgers got that done and barring injury should do it again.

Anyway,

I’ve long suggested the NFL fund a quarterback university.

A school run by quarterback coaches and retired offensive geniuses.

Instead of shotgunning beers all offseason, Will Howard should be living on the QBU campus learning both the mental and physical aspects of the quarterback position.

Will NEVER happen, but the NFL with all its billions needs to try something to help solve their QB crisis.

So yeah, long post short, The Steelers and what’s left of the diehards of the fanbase are in the midst of what could be another LONG QB drought should Fat Mike be unable to work miracles with Drew Allar.

B2B2????? Indeed

Go Aaron!
Go Fat Mike!!
Go Skenes (well maybe not today, yikes)!!!
Gooooooo Livvvvy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am not overjoyed about him coming back, but wasn't overjoyed about starting anyone currently on the roster either. I thought AR looked gun shy last year and now he's a year older. I hope he can stay healthy but even if he does, I don't see us taking the league by storm. But I am giving the new regime a chance..here we are..now entertain us. ;)

@Steeldrama One reason the NFL is crappy at developing young QBs is that there's widespread fear of being bad while your QB learns the ropes. It's the same as Head Coaches. Most are recycled mediocre choices who appear to be less risky than hiring a potential superstar.

We have now achieved the franchise stage where we have BOTH.

Unless they really felt McCarthy was the guy to find and develop the next franchise QB, it really doesn't make any sense. I guess he COULD coach into his 70s, but then you're starting over with another guy who is going to need to get his players for his system. Hopefully the plan isn't for McCarthy to choose and develop his own successor (though that might be preferable over Deuce).

Funniest part is that McCarthy is also a Super Bowl winning head coach. Won his Super Bowl against Tomlin.

And yet only Jibbs gets mentioned as the “Super Bowl winning head coach”.

A Rodgers/McCarthy reunion hardly rekindles hope of the ass whipping the Packers offense put on Tomlin’s “defense” like 15 years ago in Super Bowl XLV.

Rodgers “obviously” isn’t that guy anymore and the Steelers skill position players don’t measure up to Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings etc.

Still

I refuse to succumb to the doom and gloom until I have reason to do so. It’s the offseason and I’m going to will myself to be a Steelers’ optimist. To that end, I’m going to put myself in the minority and subscribe to the idea that Fat Mike is not being handcuffed by Deuce.

Oh I’m sure Fat Mike agreed to damn near anything to be named the HC of his hometown team, but this being his probable last chance as a HC, I just can’t see McCarthy bowing to the garbage offensive philosophy we’ve been subjected to this past decade.

Before Dak’s injury in 2024, McCarthy’s Dallas offenses ranked in the top 8 (per AI) for using the middle of the field.

I’m no Bill Walsh, but I do believe the West Coast offense features slants, slot receivers, and a heavy dose of tight ends that utilize an area Tomlin/Canada/Uncle Artie completely ignored.

I also believe that McCarthy will rely heavily on the input of his assistants the way he did in Dallas with Kellen Moore and Brian Shotty (Shotty’s offense ranked 2nd in the NFL last year).

I THINK we can all agree that new Steelers’ OC Brian Angelichio working as Vikings passing game coordinator and tight ends coach is a GOOD THING. Kevin O’Connell runs the Sean McVay/Shanny offense. SURELY we see some of that in the Steelers’ offense in the coming seasons.

I’m ranting here because I WANT to believe I’m not going to be wearing a diaper by the time the Steelers are a legit contender again.

Settling for a watchable product is a low bar, but that’s what TOMLIN and Deuce have done to me.

Hell no Rodgers return doesn’t wave my flag

But

I think McCarthy is going to surprise some people.

Maybe not this year (he has a Tomlin sized mess to clean up) but I just don’t think Fat Mike is the disaster some of y’all think he is.

On the bad side, I think McCarthy is of the "run first to open the pass" mentality, which involves more running on 1st down than I would like (easiest down on which to throw for success).

However, on the good side, we should get more PA pass, so as long as Aaron Rodgers gets over his fear of getting hit, it could be a great thing.

It also reinforces what I've been saying for a while: Gonna be Darnell Washington TE1 and, again, tough for Pat Freiermuth to get a lot of snaps.
