I was against the idea, BUT, IF(?) they now plan on spending a 4th or 6th draft pick on a QB, then why not go ahead and spend a 6th (if you can get him for that) or maybe a 4th with a 5th in return, to grab him. He'll only actually cost us ~$2.25M after displacement. Hmmm....

Just think - This team could have drafted a future all pro center with the Pickett selection and just rolled with Rudolph and Trubisky at QB in 2022. Now we still need a center and none of the QBs are on the roster two years later. Clearly this was Colbert’s final fuck you decision to the franchise.
I think there is a significantly higher likelihood of Rudolph succeeding than KennyK_C_ wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:38 pmIt will be utterly hilarious if this happens!!Dan Smith--BYU wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:04 pmPickett will likely go on to be a good QB with the right team. Watch.

Even if he were to overcome his shitty attitude, learn how to read defenses, greatly improve his processing speed and pocket awareness,
Even if he fixes all of that, he still can’t drive the ball downfield
But really, his attitude will be the downfall
That's not correct.
We have two picks in the sixth round following the DJ for DJ trade.
So we have:

I think it was easier cause Kahn didn’t draft him. It was Colberts kiss of death out the doorSteelperch wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:15 pmTwo 7ths and a swap of 4ths is way better value than Kenny was worth. I'm expecting the following:
Ryan Tannehill signed as a vet backup.
Mid to late round draft pick throwing a dart at a QB.

I would rather have had a 4th round pick this year than the pick swap. Too many holes to get rid of players without getting a pick back.Charles Demarr wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:01 pmWow, I really like the pick swap in this trade. That’s a fantastic deal for the Steelers.

This is my line of thinking too. Penix is the first to come to mind given where we'd be drafting. Gut feeling we trade upgojira5150 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:36 pmI'm hoping they bring in Penix. My opinion!
I believe Pickett played pretty damn well as a rookie once he got his feet underneath him, but was a victim of Tomlin/Canada's ridiculously uber-conservative offense.
Don't make mistakes. Don't throw INT's. Take the checkdown. Be careful with the ball. If we have to punt 25 yards with Harvin, that's better than a mistake.
Pickett had natural gunslinger instincts that Tomlin and Canada completely removed. I definitely did not like what I saw last year from Pickett, but I wish him well and if he can regain his confidence, I still 100% believe he can be a very good NFL QB.
We'll see what happens.

Yeah, I wish we had more than 7 picks. Maybe we'll work a trade down at some point to get some extra lottery tickets.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 9:12 pmI would rather have had a 4th round pick this year than the pick swap. Having 8 or 9 would be preferred.
Khan only has one draft under his belt but did work that trade down in the third in his only draft. And that netted us Nick Herbig.

It sets up perfectly for draft an elite prospect QB in 2025... but I'm sure they'll repeat exactly the same mistake they just made 3 years ago by panicking and drafting a mediocre QB this year. Kahn, you want to prove to me that you're learning and better than the previous guy... for fucks sake don't make that same mistake again and piss away another 4 years.anpsteel wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:17 pmRuss is still a 1 year rental, so there has to be some sort of bigger picture plan.
They still need a center, a right tackle, and they capable starting receiver to play opposite Pickens
+2 back up quarterbacks
You have to assume they’re going for receiver and free agency, because you need that person to start right away
The offensive line positions I suspect they’ll fill through the draft, with center being the most urgent at the moment

To be a gunslinger you first need to have a gun. ken had a blowdart.
And his hands were too small to sling anything. They did come in handy because he could never really slam his fingers into a door, or get stuck in a Chinese finger trap. But being a NFL starting QB? Not so much.

Do you think Fields is better than Pickett as an NFL QB, and if so, why?jewelsongs wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:20 pmThis makes perfect sense. We traded one of our 2 4ths for a third round pick, and that is the current asking price for Fields.
Fields is just a more expensive ineffective QB. Unless you think he's going to become in the conversation with Patrick Mahomes for top QBs in the league, there is zero point in wasting a draft pick on him when you have so many holes.
