The NFL should just disqualify the New England Patriots from the playoffs and maybe even ban them from the league for a few years.

This kind of repeated conduct is detrimental to the sport. And what makes it worse is that the Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his organization doesn't seem to understand that concept.

NE has a talented team and coach and yet they continue to cheat.

all of a sudden last year, their D got really stiff.......after we beat them. Something afoot? BB's son now working the sidelines? This DO Your Job thing has been a season long thing.....

some of the upnorth folks are speculating what it really is....
Agreed. I think it depends what they meant by filmed inappropriately. The tape will tell us the story.
If they’re filming signals... not good.
Why the Bengals? This whole DoYourJob series was a set-up all year to steal hand signals from the Bengals?
are they sending the scout out each week with this Kraft Film crew under the ruse??? Seems plausible to me

Embarrassing.

This news is like saying drug dealers are working the corner. It's a given. We all know they do this shit. League never does anything about it. No stripping them of SBs. No automatic forfeit of games. No DQ. At most we'll see draft picks taken away and a fine. Kraft will laugh his ass off again as he gets away with it.

They destroyed the tapes from the last time they got caught. Obviously the league isn't going to do anything. They made that clear already. This will get swept under the rug like all the rest.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

This all comes down to the details.

If it's a camera crew doing a show, the footage should be pretty benign. You don't need a games worth of "B-Roll" footage.

If it's an entire quarter pointed at and zoomed in on the coaches. That's a major problem - regardless of the excuse given.

At this point the only way we will ever know the extent is if a team/owner is so angry they go rouge... otherwise everyone is on board to protect the shield. They are all invested. Roger covers this up because it puts a huge black eye on the sport, he's simply trying to protect all of the owners investment.

It's a shame, but the Patriots keep pushing this boundry, and they know the NFL isn't going to do what is necessary.

What other NFL teams have a “camera crew and media guys” in the press box of a game for the upcoming opponent filming cutesy bullshit? Why has no other franchise ever been caught doing shit like this? It is the exact same method they used in SpyGate. They go out and illegally tape opponents, match up signals to play calls, chart tendencies, then use it in game for an advantage. It’s what the entire Patriots dynasty was built on. Look at their talent on the field. It’s never been great, yet they dominate. It never passed the smell test.

Ernie Adams the “Football Research Director”, the guy nobody knows exactly what he does and has been called Belichick’s Wizard Of Oz. The man behind the screen. This is his show and I firmly believe how this team of nobodies beats everyone else. It’s Belichicks secret sauce. Read the interview with the former videographer. Everything was hush hush. Few people knew. He took the tapes right to Adams, the “Football Research” guy who gave Belichick exactly what he needed to know to cheat. It never stopped. Even vs 1 win Cincy they need to cheat. Biggest scandal in sports history and the league swept it under the rug. Cowher and Rooney stooged for the league.

Details are coming out on what was witnessed from the Bengals officials:

https://theathletic.com/1447919/2019/12 ... -sideline/
Dehner Jr.: Sources say Patriots video focused for 8 minutes on Bengals’ sideline

CINCINNATI — Imagine being a Bengals staff member sitting down to watch the game in the second row of the press box, when somebody sits down in front of you during the first quarter, pulls out a video camera and starts recording.

You watch and see the viewfinder locked on the Cincinnati sideline and realize the videographer is connected to the New England Patriots, wearing Boston Bruins gear.

This is what happened on Sunday in Cleveland. Unbelievably, considering the history of such offenses.

What happened next included Bengals executives getting involved, then NFL security and eventually the video being confiscated and turned over to the league, which is currently reviewing the matter. And depending on who you talk to, there are differing accounts of what happened that could be significant in determining intent.

According to sources who have viewed the tape, it shows about eight minutes of footage focusing on recording the Bengals’ sideline.

Another article on how this is same as 2007 bust.

https://www.businessinsider.com/patriot ... rt-2019-12

BB being evasive and keeps saying he didn't know on radio again this morning.

I said it 10 years ago on this very site. They will do it again. It's what they do. CHEATERS will CHEAT AGAIN!!

Bengals are not taking this lightly.

I still don't understand what signals they would be trying to steal now that offenses and defenses have radios.

But I had another thought - cameras are really advanced now. Were they trying to catch some frames of the playsheets? You see a glimpse on tv every now and then. I bet if you had a camera trained on the sideline a whole quarter you could probably stitch together then entire thing.

they still make adjustments to those radio calls with hand signals. Belichick admitted that yesterday himself.

this full athletic article is behind a paywall

Zolak on 98.5 the hub is reading the article

they have 8 full minutes of a direct camera from the seated person aimed at the CIN sideline, (not over the shoulder filming), then the Bengals official shut it down after the 8 minutes as they arrived to investigate. They are fucked!!

They are caught red handed. Excommunicate the Patriots. In my mins this is the killshot. No playoffs for 5 years, BB suspension just because

This is exactly it. By all measures, Ernie Adams is a football genius and he only needs video of sideline signals to turn that into some sort of analytic advantage for their next matchup vs Cincy. It’s that simple, really.

I can assure you no other teams do this. This is cheating.

I'm guessing if a cover was a "Do Your Job" show, the cameras were probably of a better quality.

I would love to know if other teams had this request from the Patriots. I mean they do produce this show, and it's focused on different aspects of the team. I would love to know if the "scout team" needed B roll footage from every week. That would tell quite a bit of the story.

I have long talked about their extreme outlier success. It's been a while, but I remember seeing stats (and not just a few, MANY) that were just way better than other dynasties and coaches like Noll, Landry, etc... It's the sort of thing where a layperson says "wow, they're the GOAT" while others say "no, this is so unlikely as to not be possible ....this is Bernie Madoff....this is fraud".

When you put smart, disciplined players in the right spot they are able to compete and win against superior talent. That's where the Ernie Adams and cheating comes in. That's how you put a wide receiver at DB and have success. That's how you trot out a Cassell or Garopolo in that offense with little drop-off from Brady. That's how you keep plugging in no-names and keep winning.

And this is just stealing signals. There's absolutely no reason to believe it begins and ends there. Just the tip of the iceberg. I'll bet money they've jammed radios, and also intercept the radio frequency. I'll bet Brady has an extra radio in his helmet that never shuts off. Especially at home where they are historically great - Ernie probably sits in a secret bunker at GIllette where they run a spy op that would make the CIA envious.

Without a doubt. The “we are a film crew videoing footage for a Pats TV docu-series” has been proven to be a chambered response during the previous cheating allegations.

This is all one big system they have to turn illegally filmed content into an advantage on game day.

Yep, they de-code it then on game day they sit and watch....and on a key down if they see the right adjustment to defeat their play, then call TO.

That doesn't sound like much, but it could be huge. And if they put that much effort into such seemingly small (debatable - one extra first down because of this could be huge) advantages....you have to wonder what else they dump resources into to pursue.

Wait!!!! Kraft has been to Russia, he's met Putin. OF COURSE they're intercepting radio signals. 1 ring for 5 more is a small price to pay :D

Can someone explain to me why filming at a Bengals game would be valuable for a "do your Job" Patriots production? I mean, what is it supposedly? A documentary for the season? what could possibly be the reason they need footage of a bengals game they aren't playing in?

from pansy:
Whether and to what extent the Patriots will face punishment for Spygate 2 depends in large part on what the video shot by a crew ostensibly filming an in-house documentary feature contains.

Paul Dehner Jr. of TheAthletic.com reports, citing unnamed sources who have seen the video, that “it shows about eight minutes of footage focusing on recording the Bengals’ sideline,” and that it includes “a direct view of the sideline as players run on and off the field and coaches make signals for plays.”

Dehner also reports that the Patriots representative who had the camera captured the images in plain sight, sitting directly in front of a Bengals representative.

The Patriots have admitted that their production crew “inappropriately filmed the field from the press box,” but the team insists that the violation was unintentional and that there was no intention to use the footage for any purpose other than the “Do Your Job” item on the duties of an advance scout.

If the video shows what Dehner says it shows, the NFL can’t properly close the book on this one until it explores fully and completely any and all electronic or other communications between the members of the video crew and others in the organization. Like the text message that became so relevant to #DeflateGate, texts, emails, and/or phone records will show that the video crew had no connection whatsoever to the football operations, or otherwise.

I could see a few seconds of canned footage for the segment. But I'd guess you capture that with a regular shoulder mount in just a minute or two. I don't know how anyone could claim a fixed camera for 8 minutes was a mistake or for some other purpose.

Pretty much a smoking gun, especially given their history.
