I know I am being called to move beyond the sport of football.

That's just the bell that goes off when the refrigerator is left open.

Ah, he went back to ND to get his degree in general studies, as well as continue to mourn the loss of his brother.

Maybe he got a degree in psychology.
After the tragic loss of my brother, Richard, and upon completing my degree from the University of Notre Dame, I know I am being called to move beyond the sport of football.
Its going to be funny what he spews when he comes back to play again.

Maybe it’s sincere. I hope it is. Otherwise he’s a huge douche.

I’m not sure how this works, but if he comes out of “retirement”, wouldn’t he still be under contract with the Steelers?

I dunno. I seem to recall players doing this before and as long as enough time has passed they are free to play elsewhere

No, because he retired and is under contract, he remains ours. The contract just tolls. So if he unretires, the remainder of his contract is at play. He can't move to another team without a trade.

Ok then. Good to know.

They would retain his rights. If someone wanted to sign him they would have to compensate Pittsburgh unless they didn't want anything in return.

I love it how this guy wants to do something above and beyond a stupid sports game and he's being vilified. Meanwhile, the guy who quit the NFL to join the army and kill people is all good. Patriotic, and godly, even.

if you hired a guy to do a bunch of drywall work in your home and gave him $5000 advance, and after day 1 he texted you to announce that he was retiring from the drywall industry, i think you’d be grumpy. Even if he was going on to a more important industry.

Ok. So lets round out the analogy. What happens if the contractor got a deal from his supplier, but the deal fell through? What happens if the contractor gets into an accident and smashes his knee. Drywall already paid for. He can do it, but it will take five times as long. Maybe he can't work anymore, and needs to farm out the work. At a hight rate. Tuitt and the steelers signed a contract that stipulated injury and personal time. It would be naive to think that wasn't built into the contract.

IOW, contracts have caveats, and sometimes you have to eat the caveat. And. . . contracts aren't so simple. There are extenuating circumstances. And we still don't know any details about convo's between tuitt and the steelers. Everyone is making assumptions based on ideology - or what they "think" should happen without knowing details. /shrug.

I'm thinking at some point last year the Steelers and Tuitt had a conversation, and both sides knew what was going to happen. They just didn't tell us. He had a tragedy in his life, and Rooney made sure he got some more money. Reminds me of Shazier getting injured and Rooney making sure he got some more money while he recovered.
