Re: 1.10 Devin Bush
Great analysis FC. Missed seeing your scouting reports around these parts. If Bush is as advertised then I can't wait to see him on the field. Big question for me can he hold up against those weekly OL pounding but as they say you can't hit what you can't catch. I will continue to hope that he's a student of the game to be able to blow up plays in the backfield before those OL can get their hands on him.

Shazier weighed 237 at the combine.
He's also 6'1/6'2[/quote]
So he had less wrist circumference? Got it.

Asshole move, Michigan State should have body slammed him for that.
Maybe his lack of height will allow him to get lost in coverage so to speak.
Was a major position of need so it cost what it cost I suppose.
But it also shows this staff was all sold on the player 100%. Would have to be to move up that much. Not doing that if it isn’t a consensus IMO. Not this team.
Turns the D around or seals someone fate.
I don’t have any opinion of him. Never seen a play other than a couple highlight tonight.
Clean slate with me.

I don't see the value in this scenario. Perhaps as this kid develops and makes "splash plays" I'll change my mind. Right now? Their 20th overall, 52nd overall second round pick and 2020 third is far too expensive for me.

Find some Michigan games to watch...actual games, not a highlight clip, focus on Bush and then let us know if you’re still stoked on the pick.
Not sure if im super stoked but at least they took a shot. Im not gonna sit through a whole damn Michigan game. Nobody on here would or will either.
Theres an inch and 3 lbs separating Bush from White as ILBs in this class.
Why is one considered undersized? That inch and 3 lbs make a real difference to some?

Would you be on this board if everyone droned on about a great pick? Enjoy the bitching, it is why you are here reading.
It is not like MitreSaw will get a million bucks when his Dri Archer comment comes true while you continue to toil in the salt mines.
I understand what you are saying. But its like some of these guys couldnt wait for this move so they can bitch and whine.

Shazier’s body with Peezy’s mentality.
I’m hopeful.

I was hoping he or another player from michigan dislocated their ankle at the exact spot he dug up while he was doing that. Such a clown move.

So as I understand it everyone is happy with spending 3 top 100 picks to replace Shazier? I don't get it.

i am willing to see what KC does tomorrow.
So some people were saying "look, everyone is trading down now....Colbert is an idiot".
I might argue that it actually explains why Colbert traded-up. We already had 10 picks. This team has a good bit of talent, but still a few needs. One glaring need was ILB - what in the world would be the point of passing on a potential difference-maker to trade down for a few more picks?!?
Corners and safeties in this draft - not good? Fant or another TE in the first two rounds to back-up Vance? And still plenty of ways to land a quality receiver. And what other ILB could plug that hole?
So what exactly did Colbert fuck-up other than it's not the Devin most of you wanted? He got the one guy he could have that might improve the team the most, the most this year....and it really wasn't all that expensive.
I hope he's right, because he needs to be. But I think when alcohol wears off and sanity returns that people will see this was a good move, and pretty much the only one Colbert could make. Now, he may have been trying to trade-up for White, but we'll never how much more that would have cost.

To those who disliked or hated this move, what did you think of the team’s ILB choices going forward and who would you have taken at 20, staying put, as it played out?

Technically 2, not 3 picks....one of which should be a late R3 next year which is total grab-bag territory.

CB or WR at 20 and a LB or S in rd 2. Address 2 needs not just one. Going to miss on some nice S play and either depth at CB (at worst) or another weapon at WR (Metcalf, either Brown)
If I could downgrade Bush a bit at LB and add a S, CB or WR....yah that's what I'm doing.

How has this defense looked since losing Shazier?

I was going to say the same but he's right...the pick we used counts as a spent pick whether that was 10 or 20...if I'm reading his post right.

Like they have for the past several years. Underwhelming and beatable...what's your point?

Right...used two picks to move up and one to make the pick...3.

Yah, D wasn't exactly worldbeaters with Shazier. Shazier basically won a playoff game, and had a knack for some plays. Liked the guy and would rather have him than not. (Show up in a playoff and you deserve status). D seemed better with him, haven't looked at numbers...but even in the year Shazier really came on, team was winning games late on O and K game, unless my memory is total gone which is really quite possible.

My point is that it was worth the risk. Similar player to Shazier. I was not overwhelmed by any of the corners at 20, the other huge position of need, and was convinced that they’d choose the wrong one given this group’s track record on CB. It wasn’t just losing Shazier, it was the unbelievable drop off of his replacements. Still a lot of picks left to work with.

Yet to be determined whether the risk is worth the 3 top 100 picks spent. I hope they struck Gold. I'll be rooting for him as I do every Steeler. I think there was still more value elsewhere in the draft for ILB. In the end they're the professionals and I am not. Little disappointing to me spending those picks on one guy. Wait and see mode.

I’m only going to add that the Steelers defense with Shazier was better, but they weren’t world beaters. The Steelers need to be better on defense, much better, but is Bush that guy? I guess we will see. He needs to be the right player taken for the draft capital we spent to get him.
My hope is that he creates havoc in the middle of the field and can creat turnovers, because we don’t do that anymore.

Time will tell if he lives up to his top ten pic status, but I am glad we made the trade up and took a shot at addressing our most glaring need on D. If we stayed at 20, we would have likely picked the safety, Savage Jr... which I had read somewhere that we liked him a lot. And if we did that, I would have had to endure reading for the next ten years how we coulda got him in round two,...just cause most mocks had him going there, but Colbert ran to the podium and didn't even consider trading down and getting an extra pick and still got him. Of course, he went 21 to the Packers, but we wouldn't have known that...lol
I get it but, I wish they would’ve rolled the dice and see if he got past Cincy, then if he’s in the range for a trade using a 3rd, 5th, and a 6th I would have been good.
But it’s obvious that the Steelers LOVED him, and believes he can be a pro bowl caliber player.
I just hate giving up the 2nd.
As with any player picked, we will wait and see.
If he ends up a pro bowler than we’ll love the trade, if not we’ll bitch about it forever.
